Default How bad is it really, to have 2 different sets of tires on an AWD car?

I have a pair of like new tires that would fit my summer wheels, but I need another pair for the other 2 wheels. Is it really a big deal to not buy a set of 4 tires? Do the diameter of the tires have to be EXACTLY the same, or can the center diff deal with it?
