Default MRT Brake Bracket

I had this bracket sitting on my workbench for several months. Every time I looked at where it had to go I would say to myself, "This stupid thing will NEVER fit!" And you know, I was right.

To install it, you need to remove the washer fluid reservoir and pull the supply line off the fuel filter so it can be set aside. You also need to take the clutch line junction block off the shock tower to access its mounting hole. This is where the fun begins.

The bracket's rear holes will line up with two holes on the shock tower; one for the clutch line junction block and one that was unused. Once these are lined up you can see that the front two holes (the ones for the fuel filter bracket) have absolutely no chance. The bracket is bent wrong and sits off the shock tower by about 1/4". I fabricated a 1/4" aluminum spacer to fill this gap and then found that the bracket's holes are drilled wrong. I ended up removing and reinstalling the bracket 4 different times while drilling bigger and bigger holes to try and get the bolts to start.

I finally got the bolts started (not the ones MRT supplied which were too short) and the bracket installed. I put on the cadmium plated brace that holds the bolt for pre-loading the master cylinder and found that it was angled wrong to have the head of the pre-load bolt correctly contact the master cylinder. The pre-load bolt was also off center and the brace had to be adjusted way up to center the bolt. Unfortunately, the brace was too far up to allow the fuel filter to be reinstalled and I had to drop the brace back down and live with the bolt being off center and crooked. I finally got the fuel filter back in, but had to put a small foam pad between the MRT brace and the bottom of the filter as they still hit each other.

So, though I have it installed and can tell some positive difference in braking I must say that this thing is a disaster. I think MRT should actually use a car to help them design the bracket next time.
