I dont see how you can go from an A8, to an 09wrx? The ride quality is a huge difference.

@ 36 - Had a modded 05 WRX Wagon. Always wanted an STi from the day I settled and got the wagon. (Money, Kid and grow up pressure) Now at a wealthier 41 I could have easily done a S4 or M3; For some reason, purchased the STi I always wanted. Couldn't be happier!

39 with '04 WRX stage 2 and a few other mods. Love the car and the disposable power when ever you need it. I love it when the PD rolls up thinking your some young kid and realize your older then they are....

31 and I just sold my 06 Silverado 1500hd crew cab for a stage 1 02 WRX wagon. Picked it up last night, 93k miles for $7500. I like my little grocery getter.

2003 Hyundai Tiburon V6 2001 A4 Avant 2001 S4 2007 WRX wagon 2011 WRX Limited Sedan The S4 is a decent car to drive around, but there are many many problem with owning one. Maintenance is often and expensive. Blow a turbo and you are out $10K. Also, they are fairly heavy and don't give you the same linear suspension feedback you get in the WRX/STi. Now with the '11 WRX, interior fit and finish is improved so much that I would choose WRX over S4 any day of the week due to the cost/value ratio. |

Why Sti
I am 40 years old and drive a 2011 STI sedan DGM with rce yellows, cobb access port stage one flash, and tinted windows. I love it! But so do the cops!
No other car seems to instill the thrill at this point. I have thought a few times as to what else could be "less expensive" to run and drive. I mean if you can afford $35,000 + on the 2011, there are some really decent autos in that price range...IE: used Lotus Elise. But, AWD is a real plus with STI and for MPG's the others find it hard to compete and it handles like it's on rails... Thoughts on anything else out there that instills the thrill of driving??? |

I agree, I even drove my Miata all the time until getting in and out became an issue , but when I want to smile I drive the STI or the EVO.

Just got rid of the "chicken strip" of my 180 rear.. In fact my bike has tighter ergos than the new GSXR1000.. Quote:
You know this thread is interesting because when I posted on the motorcycle site I belong to that I was looking at a WRX a guy my age gave me stick because at my age I shouldn't buy a "teenage tuner" but a real car like a Camaro or Charger. He said when he sees turbo 4 bangers he thinks punk, I told him when I see guys over 50 new muscle cars I think Viagra commercial.. So he opened a thread asking members to post their age and what car they would get under $50K.. You know it was right down the middle? Guys in their 20s chose more muscle cars.. That is because unlike us they are living the fantasy (like we did before we tried "living" with them.). Older guys between 30 and 45 were 50% new or old muscle cars and 50% things like Evos, WRXs, S2000s etc.. It's kinda like the saying goes.. "You don't stop riding because you get old, you get old because you stop riding." |

The A8 to WRX is easy, the A8 was an incredible car. Pretty fast, rode and drove incredible but it just wasn't what I want in a car. Don't get me wrong, probably one of nicest driving cars out there-period!! I just like a smaller, more nimble car plus I don't need to even mention Subaru reliability. Now the S4, it was a Twin Turbo one, ran real good, especially with some more boost. Don't have anything bad to say about it except for the constant little problems with it. It just seemed it was always something. I still like Audi's but I really love the Subaru reliability and ease of working on when I need to.

I'm 43 and just bought my first Subaru, a 2011 WRX wagon 6 weeks ago. Prior to the Subaru I drove an '01 BMW 325xi wagon, before that a '94 BMW 325i sedan. From 2003 to 2008 I also had a 99 Miata and an '04 Mazdaspeed Miata as 2nd cars.
I loved my '94 BMW, it sounded and handled great with very slight mods. It was also tough and reliable, although not particularly powerful. I really liked the wagon's size, but never warmed up to its heavier handling. It was much less sporting. It also cost a lot more to maintain. When I got tired of spending hundreds on it, I tried out newer BMWs, but they were even more expensive and I found them less engaging to drive. So I tried a WRX and from the first test drive was reminded of the feel of my old BMW. It obviously is a lot faster and grippier, but the direct handling is what sold me. I'm hoping that the long term reliability is good. While I don't push the WRX's performance envelope on a regular basis, I have to say its mentally rewarding to know that I drive a 4 door hatchback that gets average car mileage that can accelerate with Mustangs, Corvettes, & Porsches, and handle with the best of them too. The fact that it cost about $25K makes me smile too! This is a car that really doesn't ask me to compromise much. Its the epitome of 'bang for the buck.' OK, the forum title does hint at the only downside to this car...its a kid's car! I could do without the hood scoop, fender flares, and big vents. But so what. I like to joke that some guys my age buy cars to impress women (although I have yet to meet a woman that is really impressed by anyone's purchase of a Porsche, Lexus, Corvette...). I don't think anyone buys a WRX to impress women. Maybe to impress college age dudes, but thats about it. But I didn't buy my car to impress anyone, I just need a practical car and want one that is fun to drive and doesn't make me feel sick every time I see a repair bill. So far, the WRX seems to fit that niche perfectly! Errands are fun again! Oh, and as you might imagine, no mod's to speak of. I've adapted a set of the Thule TK feet to fit the factory mounting points (practical), but other than that I'm stock. I'd love to find a set of the older BBS Y-Spoke rims to swap out for the standard ones, but that will be simply vanity, not a performance mod (particularly since the rims are 1/2" narrower). |

I'm 39. I'm on my 3rd Subaru, had a (bought used) '01 impreza sedan L (stick) and had a '09 Legacy SE (stick). Very happy in my '11 WRX sedan. The only person I'm looking to impress is myself and look forward to each time I get to drive it. The car has plenty of pep for daily driving though I am thinking about upgrading the suspension some (same stock height) to really excel in the twists. Plus maybe an STI short throw shifter then it might be ready for some auto-x
my mods (or whatever you like to call it.... ricer mods?) + 15% tint + debadged trunk + Nameless axleback exhaust + super white LED license bulbs + super white interior lights + chrome rear turn signal bulbs (flash amber) on the kitchen table to be installed..... + Hella horns (black) and Subimods bracket + 6000k HID low beams + Luminics Krypton Pure Blue DRL/high beams + chrome front turn signal bulbs + front grille will be debadged |

42 and on my 3rd Subaru; 99 Outback, 05 Legacy GT, 11 WRX. I love the fact I can afford to drive and MOD my Subbie. I can afford tires, tunes and upgrades. I can replace a turbo for a Grand and tune for 250.00. Most the guys I work with, buy sports cars to cruise not drive, I dont get it. In my office alone there are 2 Vettes (one Z06), 1 M3, One Carrera, and a few Z's 350, 370.
NONE of them want to DRIVE their cars. I have asked on numerous times to go on canyon drives, always excuses. Conversely, post a local drive on a Subaru forum and you have at least 1/2 a dozen takers, usually more. I like that. The longer I have Subarus the more I realize, turbo subaru owners of any age are cool but the owners over 30 RULE!!!! |
