Default Vintage Amplifier, I mean "Car" detailing

So this isn't a car application, but I would imagine many of the tricks and techniques that we use on cars would apply here.

First off, I do not expect to restore this thing to like new condition, nor do I really want to. I just want to clean up some of what there, with doing as little damage as possible.

I'm primarily looking to remove some of the surface rust, and clean up the chrome without removing any of the painted-on labels. Any advice?
