Default Discount tire and their "Certificates for Repair, Refund or Replacement".

Anyone have experiences with Discount tire and their "Certificates for Repair, Refund or Replacement".
I'm looking at getting the Nankang NS-II. From what I understand from a friend, who was told by a rep, that it's no questions asked and we don't have to send back the original tire. Is this just good marketing or is it definitely worth the extra ~$50.

Thanks,

(1) DTD has a toll-free number on their website. You could call them - for free! - and ask them the question rather than relying on hearsay from an internet forum.

(2) Unless you destroy tires pretty frequently, I would suggest you just put that $50 towards tires that aren't cheap garbage. Nankangs are dirt cheap for a reason, and it's not because the company has some altruistic desire to provide the best tires on the market without making any profit.

I used the plan back in 06... Back then it was free with purchase of a new set. I did use it when I ripped the sidewall on my BFG KM1's. No questions asked, I just drove up there with the tire in the back of my truck (it was off my jeep) they looked up my purchase history, saw I bought the tires new from them and swapped it out.

I have it and used to work there for 2 years. Yes its true and vary handy if you get a flat that can't be fixed. Such as a hole in the sidewall, you get a new tire for free.

I'm also a prior DTC employee (ILCO4 ), feel that their certs are a good investment, and also use them on my tires. JUST keep in mind that mixing a new tire in with three tires with significant wear will pose risk to Subaru's AWD system. I would consider how lucky you are, as in do you run over a lot of potholes and nails.
I would call or stop by a local DTC and ask about the current details of their cert program. Last I recall you really do not get a "free" tire, you have to buy a cert on that replacement tire.

V Uh OK not sure what that added.

Yes but you get a new cert and its only like 8% of the coast of the tire. You can mix a new tire in depending on the ware of the others. If the tires are less than half worn you should be fine. Just get all four new tires when the other 3 ware down. Don't leave the one you replaced on.
