No. I think he is too young without enough experience and is not big enough.

someone like him would be afraid of silva from the get go (ie gsp vs Hughes the first time) and that would effect his performance. Also Chael is a very big strong wrestler at 185, I don't see Weidman being able to toss silva around like he did... And he would def not want to just stand and strike with him.

He has the potential for sure, but I really don't think he is ready. Munoz to silva is a very big jump IMO

The problem is that middleweight is light on contenders and he's an up and coming undefeated prospect. The only other guy I'd put in line with Silva is the winner of Boetsch/Lombard, and Alan Belcher. The winner of Bisping vs Stann is a solid prospect as well, but they are both injured. It'll be months before that fight takes place.

Considering those options I am not adverse to Weidman getting the shot, but I won't bitch if he has to fight one more guy to get a crack at Silva. I'd really love to see him face Belfort. I think he'd tear Belfort's ass.

I watched those big MMA fights the other night. The old Mexican dude vs. the scrappy Irish-ish dude, Jesus vs. midget, and then spider-legs-foooootbul dude vs some loudmouth whiteboy that got rocked.

The sweaty grabble-dick-punch-man-pretzel thing was lacking, and thus it was sorta kinda entertaining.

I thought you all should know that.

I can't say too much yet, but there is a solid chance he will be fighting someone that I train with regularly.

Make sure he puts the hurtin on him... Can't let WWE people think they can have a seamless transition into MMA.

Side note, Calgary event this weekend is such a meh card I struggle to even want to watch the PPV. But, it is often these cards that end up being some of the most entertaining. So I guess we will see how it goes.

I feel the same way. Hector Lombard vs. Tim Boetsch? I thought he came to the UFC to step up in competition?

I know fighter scheduling has a bit to do with it (Belcher just fought Palhares, Belfort got injured, etc.), but even if Lombard beats Boetsch in the first round, I still wouldn't be like, "Title shot!" It's like all the people who suddenly think Nate Marquardt can beat Silva, somehow forgetting they fought before and that fight wasn't even close.

People on TV say I should be excited about Baroa vs. Faber. Meh.

I'll read about the fights on Sunday. If I missed out, I missed out.

I was || that close to buying tickets to the Calgary event (since I live there) and I'm really glad I didn't now. The original card was okay but with all the injuries it is not worth the price of admission. There are a lot of pissed off Calgarian MMA fans that bought the tickets and can hardly even sell them for face value on kijiji...

Not surprised at all. This event is more in line with free Saturday fight night. I feel sorry for the ticket buyers that were expecting more. At least with PPV you don't have to order it until the last minute.

I guess the best that Dana can hope for is a really exciting night of good fights, because if they suck, I am sure there are going to be a LOT of unhappy people.
I didn't buy tickets pretty much for that reason, even if it is only a 3 hour drive from me, and likely the closest a UFC card will ever be.

That and the fact that uhhh Nate is now a WELTERWEIGHT and not a middleweight.

Boetsch knocked out Oakami (even if he was losing) who was just ranked in the top 5, before his lose to Silva.

Your argument is pretty weak.

For what it's worth, I think Belcher is probably the most underrated contender at this point. Lombard is a beast but I think if he fought someone who had decent footwork that allowed them to keep distance, he wouldn't hulk smash them. I do believe if Hector touches anyone's chin, they're going down.

Weidman probably does represent the biggest challenge to Silva with his wrestling credentials. I pointed it out the other week but the middleweight division is light on wrestlers in general - but also good MMA wrestlers. LW, WW and LHW seems to have gotten them all.

It's my opinion that if Sonnen stuck to the game plan, he had that fight won through a slow and grinding decision.

It's sad because Calgary has a lot off MMA fans and we've been pushing to get UFC here for a long while.

You haven't missed anything. Fiddle and Clements was a fun fight...beautiful triangle choke by Fiddle and some great trips.

Didn't catch the prelims.
