1989 GL Wagon

Default Which Coil Spring?

I have a 1989 Subaru GL Wagon (4-cyl 1.8L). Recently my front, driver-side coil spring broke. It is now attached at each end to the vehicle, but in two pieces.

Because I really want to keep this car on the road, I ordered a replacement spring from Subaru. But the Parts Dept guys at the Subaru dealership didn't know which of the two available front springs was the correct one for the driver-side, so they ordered both. Now I have them and they seem to be identical in shape, size, diameter, etc. How do I know which one to install? The guy said they might differ in load capacity - I have no idea how to test for this or how to compare them to the springs currently on my car.

But I do have part numbers! Please let me know which one is driver side - if you happen to know.

The 2 part numbers are:
- 21091GA680 (has blue, purple and yellow markings on the part)
- 21091GA690 (has blue, purple and white markings on the part)

These are "Subaru Genuine Parts", made by Fuji Heavy Industries.
