Speaking of ambient lighting.. ive been thinking the car is unusually dark inside at night (coming from a vw touareg which is lit up like a Christmas tree inside)

Ive been thinking leds in the door pull cubby would be nice!

If the Impreza were smaller, I'd like it even more. I LOVE micro-cars and true compacts.
The current Impreza is big by my standards, and has too many doors.
Dont get me wrong. I like the Impreza just fine, other than the seats and oil issue. But had it been available as a shorter two door, I'd have rather had that.
The Focus, I'm not so much a fan of anymore. I had a first-gen and loved it.
But yeah, I'd love to test drive a light little hatch with 200+hp. May even trade for one if the price is right.

i was thinking the same, just need to find a power source in the door, but i don't think there are any switched power sources there.

If there was a way to have it light with the headlight switch that would be ideal..

in the drivers door there would be 1 power source to tap into, whatever illumitates the 1 window switch, but i don't think there is anything on the passenger side.

for the rest of my lights i plan to just have them on all the time when the ignition is on. during the day LED's don't draw enough power to care about, i was only going to use a max of 7 LED's so at most 140mA of draw, and they don't really ever burn out

Just got back from my check engine light, seems like the code that was thrown was for the transmission, P2746

I was able to find this error here

Quote:
If you receive a customer concern of a Check Engine light, AT Temp light or a no engine-crank condition, the wiring harnesses to the transmission range sensor (inhibitor switch) should be closely inspected for damage or a short circuit to the CVT transmission case. In addition, Slow-Blow Fuse (SBF)-6 in the Main Fuse Box (M/B) may also have failed.
Has anyone else had this code before?

What's the goal of ambient lighting? Wouldn't it reduce night vision?

Semi-related, has anyone installed one of these kits?

Do they do wood paneling for the exterior trim?

Just creates a little glow in the cabin so it isn't pitch dark. Our jetta has it and unless you knew it was there you would never know. No affect at all on night vision

I was looking at the basic kit in black. I'd only buy it if it was very glossy like a piano finish and would only install a few select pieces.

Well I have been pretty scared of the white seats for a while now, even with scotch guarding them. Nothing has happened so far but I just bought a set of black seat cloth take offs.. so will probably have an interesting project coming up when it gets warm.

I had a 2011 Jetta TDI I traded in to get my impreza. My Jetta had far more rattles and maintenance was outrageous!!!

Just placed my order for resistors from digikey. Ordered 5 of each, and 7 different types to make circuits from 1 to 7 leds. Now I just need to figure out which leds I want to try.

I only live about 1 hour away, but the price of gas is not economical compared to 2.80 shipping...

I've been flirting a bit too much with photos of the 2014 WRX Mule on that modified 4th Gen Impreza Sedan. While it's a little crude looking, I couldn't help but notice that it has what looks to be an SPT exhaust system on it. I've got a 5-door and I was wondering if, with slight modification to the rear bumper to make the exhaust tips fit, an SPT exhaust for a WRX 5-door would bolt up to a 4th Gen Impreza 5-door? There aren't many SPT parts for the 4th Gen Impreza and I understand that they don't void the warranty. Cost aside, I'm just curious if it would work or if it has been done before?

It's listed under a TSB... so it's a known issue & will be covered by warranty.

My touareg had more lights than you can imagine inside. Every button all over the dash, center console, doors, under the seats, under the dash, in the doors, in every compartment... all controllable from the sterring wheel computer.
And no. They didnt effect driving at all. They made it easier to grab stuff in the car. Made it feel more comfortable. I knew what was in the car without having to turn on bright lights. Its a very low level of light. A mild glow. Pretty much any high end car has it. I think ambiant lighting would improve the cars look and feel drastically. Its just waaay too dark in there.

These are garbage. Totally noticeable as a stick on kit.

Good call.. I was kinda thinking about having them on all the time too. Im debating white or red leds. Thoughts? Red sorta matches the dash lighting so I think its a good theme to carry over however theres whites too. And white wont be quite as aggressive.

i was going to do red. white would be ok for footwells if i decide to have them turn on with the door. I'm not sure i want those on all the time, it will depend on how dim i end up making the lights i guess. amber would be a good choice too, not as harsh as white would be. but for the overhead i'm definitly doing red.

i think i am also going to order 6 LED's and use up to all 6 for additonal lighting in the hatch because it is just way too dim! i don't want to go the led strip route

I've only had the A pillar rattles. I pushed some felt into the the gaps with a small screwdriver and haven't heard any rattles since.
