1. You have not read the sticky threads at the top of this forum about transmissions in general and ratio selection.
2. You live in Maryland. That is where www.andrewtechautomotive.com is located which is in Gaithersburg, MD. Why are you asking idiots on the internet on how to spend like $6000 of your hard earned dollars when you are within easy driving distance to the most experienced Subaru transmission specialist in the United States? I drove 4 hours ONE WAY just to visit and buy nothing 2 weekends ago....your oversight on this matter needs attention. |

While i appreciate your response i have to ask you to hear me out. This vendor is offering a full swap 6 speed trans, clutch assembly, shifter assembly, slave cylinder, drive shaft, rear diff, front and rear hubs, front and rear axles. I can get this for a fraction of what anyone in this area is selling transmissions for. This being said I respect andrew tech and the work they do. So to answer your first comment yes i have read your sticky thread. Plus if you look at the ratio chart the V7 has a 3.9 final drive but that doesnt matter because they all come with the R180 and 4 axels and hubs. My question was to learn things like will my stock wrx brakes fit on the hubs? Is there any known issues with any of these transmissions? Has anyone had any poor experience with this vendor? Basically how much do the JDM transmissions varry fromt the USDM transmissions. And you calling the users on this forum stupid I find that a bit harsh. I am asking for real opinions that aid in my decesion making. I have and will be consulting with a well accepted subaru shop on this build.

If you could (Unabomber) or someone else could answer or point me to the answer to any of these questions I would grealy appreciate your help. Or if anything I said is incorrect please correct me. My purpose for posting is to learn not to piss others off. If you think this questions would be better suited in the newbie forum i can repost it there as well. Good day.

Your brake questions can be answered in the Brake Steering Suspension section in the Stickies too.
Since you're already 5x100 bolt pattern with your 2003 WRX you might want to stick to the V7 transmission package. It's the only one of the three options with the same 5x100 bolt pattern. If you were to buy the V8 or V9 you would need some new 5x114 wheels to use. |

Or from what I have read from a post sent to me by a friend I could create a hybrid axel that would work with the stock hubs. Also the vendor has v8 that come with 5x100 lug pattern. The most important question is how each compare in strength which is ultimately why I am performing the swap.

i've had a jdm v7 drivetrain in my 03 bug wagon for around 100k miles. luv it. Good fro DD and great for RX with lsd front, dccd and is buletproof. 1st is way shorter than the too long usdm 5 spd. one requirement is to fit my compomotive rally rims, so 5x100 and no brembos.
so sti 5x100, originally came with 2 pot "gravel spec" rears (same as 06 wrx) and kept my oem fronts. highly recommend new seals all around, axles and both ends of the prop shaft. prob a new clutch, resurface the flywheel. have a neetronics dccd controller, recommend a dccd pro. I've since upgraded to matching gc8 3 pot/2 pots, they are cool. parts are easy, i just get 2005 sti whatever. |

Good... strong like any other 6spd no dccd...so nothing to worry about breaking (imo) bad... 6th gear puts u around 3500-3600 rpm @ 70mph on the expressway That sucks....so much for ANY kinda gas milage on the xway But is a V7 plug n play in a 5x100 wrx or will u need some weird half shafts....and a r180? |

my v7 has a dccd. and purchased the entire drivetrain...included prop shaft and r180 rear diff and all 4 knuckles/hubs. Came with 5x100 jdm Sti hubs that had "new" style cartridge bearings.. Re-used oem rotors. Also had male axles (no half shafts as in earlier versions). Check this chart for a complete breakdown of rations, dccd or not, type of diffs, goooood stuff. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...smission+chart |

80mph arrives at 3600rpms. The JDM's 6th ratio isn't too short. It's only a bit shorter than a 2.5RS in top gear when on the highway at speed.

70 mph = 3100 rpm 66 mph = 3000 rpm '13 Outback 2k rpm at 65 mph! Rallispec published a trans ID chart that shows gear ratios for lots of transmissions: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...smission+chart I get 24-25 mpg mostly city driving, with a healthy set of mods/tune. |

So to put one of these in a 04 wrx sedan, I would need...
-v7 trans -any particular short throw? -R180 rear diff -v7 drive shaft only? -and what half shafts would be needed? thank you. |

Bumping this from the dead just because. V7 STI trans is 3.9 and the factory R160 is also 3.9, why does it require a R180 then?
Do the factory axles work the V7 transmission? This would allow the factory hubs/brakes to be used too. |

I did the swap with a V7. You need the r180 and the V7 axels do not fit the stock hubs. So either do a hybrid axel or you will need brembos b.c the rear brakes wont fit on the V7 hubs. See chart to see why the V7 needs the r180. Also this swap made my mpg suck. I don't have a long drive to work so not that bad. I get about 17 mpg on the highway now.
