Default DIY clock pod modification question

Hey guys, I was looking to replace my boring OEM 05 WRX green digital pod clock. I saw several DIY's on putting an aftermarket temperature/clock/voltage meter into the car like this: WRX clock mod

I'm looking to keep things simple and was wondering if there is a way to mod the temperature & clock pod From an 09 Subaru to function in the 02-07 models? Assuming you need to re-use the 02-07 housing for the clock body. Also assuming you need to re-wire as the pin #s are different. I just like the soft white display over the green display. Also that temp gauge could come in handy

I may not be your professional but there is a gauge called the Scangauge 2 it plugs into your OBD2 port and I'm pretty sure you could make it fit nicely into the clock housing with a little cutting... http://www.amazon.com/ScanGauge-Automotive-Computer-Customizable-Real-Time/dp/B000AAMY86

Interested as well. Scan gauge too expensive. Need something cheaper.

The 09^ temp gauge works off a temp sensor like the STi uses in their gauge cluster. So its fed through the wiring harness and you wont get it to work. More then likely it will read all 000 or XXX ???

Go with the first time temp gauge you posted or this one. I have this in my car it fits the stock hole perfectly with minor trimming, Red or Blue back lit and battery run clock so its always on.
