Default '02 WRX using '08 EJ255 longblock: what am I going to run into?

So my factory engine is on it's way out (prev owner wasn't so nice to it, and the rings are shot).
Engine is mainly stock w/ just TBE & UP.
Having trouble finding a replacement EJ205 in reliable shape. Most are abused at this point.
Came across an '08 EJ255 longblock, complete locally and it's in my price range.
Problem being, what will I run into with the newer engine generation?
I have read that the earlier model 2.5l engines are usable, but the ACVS remains inactive.
Is that all I'll run into on this engine as well?
Will my IM and other accessories bolt to this engine/block/heads? Wiring and sensors work still? Or have things changed significantly enough, that this option will be more headache than it's worth?

I don't want to wait to long on the engine, since they seem few and far between; but don't want to jump on it only to find out I'm in over my head, or well end up having to do some Frankenstein beast just to make it run.

This is my daily and I just want something reliable that I can enjoy driving.

You'll need to use your wrx intake manifold, wrx cam gears, plug the avcs oil holes in the intake cams, block the air pump holes in the heads, buy a cam sensor bracket, get some 2.5 top feed injectors and a tune. Make sure all the avcs solenoids and oil lines are there.
You can do it.

Do a hybrid build like I did with my '03 EJ20. If your heads are in good shape just send them off (I used and highly recommend EQ tuning and their 2.5l head mod) to get a rebuild done on them and mate them to the EJ 255 shortblock. Re-use your stock intake, turbo, etc. As long as it's all in good shape. I did this and love my new motor. You'll need to reflash the stock ecu with Cobb AP with a custom tune to run the motor as well.
