Default 1986 Xt

Eye just wondering if anyone has personnel experience with the 1.8t XT. Preferably 1985-86. I happen to come across an 86 for sale local to me. And I've been thinking about buyin it for a daily/beater so I can keep mileage down on my wrx. May just been one of those impulse buys that come across in my head lol but I talked to him a little. And he said heat doesn't work. And the mileage is 122,144. I think that's pretty damn good for an 86. Next year my 2004 wrx will have that much if I keep driving it to work.

It either needs head gaskets now or will in the future. And timing belts. And the digidash sucks. If it has a 3 speed auto those are lousy too.

They ARE neat cars though. But the EA82T engine is pretty unreliable if you don't keep on ALL the maintenance.

Thanks for the input. I did a little reading on them and it does sound like a neat car to just say you own. But I figured timing belt and head gasket would need to be done. And it is an auto unfortunately. I suppose it's still worth to check out though. And I thought the digidash was as cool as the airride lol

The air ride is troublesome too.

If you want a good beater get a 90-94 Legacy

This, is a much better idea.

Flowmaster hit all the main problems with this car. The EA82Ts are terrible as far as reliability goes. A buddy of mine worked at Subaru for years and said they always kept the EA82T heads in stock because they cracked so much. Not a good choice for a beater/daily.

And as any car with air suspension, you will have problems. Expensive problems at that.

Yeah they are good points. But still would be badass to have. I went and looked at it and it didn't have rear bags in it and the heat didn't work. Other than that it ran awesome. But it wouldn't have been worth it to put money into it. I just like the cool factor about it.

Yes it reminds me of an old mr2 too. But when I looked at it it wasn't worth buying. The guy had the xt and a couple brumbys. I've never seen them in person and they were pretty badass.
