Yup, +38 to +40 will be much better for stock body.

I wish thoes Raijin or Kojin would come in +40. Their sizing is a bit odd for 5x114.3.

Anyone got any info or pics about going smaller?

i.e. 16's or even 15's? Brake clearance etc.

Perhaps suggestions? I'm finding it tough to find 5 x 114.3 for anything less than 17's.

EDIT: After doing more research it seems as though 17's are the smallest that can fit due to the brakes.

Question for anyone who cares to chime in- I just picked up a set of winters at discount tires for my 2015 WRX. They sold me 235/45R17 blizzaks on a 17x7" rims. I didn't think much about it at the sales counter, but now that I have the car back, I think it looks a little "bulgey", and I'm not entirely sure about running 235s on 7" rims. Any advice?

I believe those are stock spec though. So it should be fine. No idea how winters differ from summer tires though. From the little I've read, seems like many go a size smaller in width with winter tires. I'm not completely sure if it due to traction or fitment though.

Well, the tires are stock spec but the wheel width is not.

Would have liked to have gone with 265's but chose not to because I do not want to have to do any fender modifications. At stock ride height I may have gotten away with 265's...not at stock ride height though.

Thank You

Don't do it. Wrong size and offset for these cars...if you want something wide try closer to 18x9.5 +40.

People are running 18x10's with 265's on the WRX/STI but it all comes down to what you're using for suspension and camber also.

I'd personally look into some 2009+ BBS STI wheels. They can be found pretty easily and for a forged wheel the price is hard to beat.

I've seen previous generations with these specifications and it looks really good.
I really like the concave look of these wheels hence my reason to get +20 offset.
Can you please elaborate on "wrong size and offset" ?

Et20 is too low. You need a lot of modification to get +20 to fit properly. Even if you get it to fit, the steering may feel a little off.

Do you know what a + 20 offset means...? The concave look comes from offset being low... the wheel mounting face is more to the middle of the wheel. Subarus run high offsets stock, like 55 's , which means the mounting face is more to the outside of the wheel.

So, it might look good to you... but its a WIDE wheel with a low offset... meaning the wheel is pushed to the outside of the car... and it won't fit unless you really mess with your car... !

The lowest you should go with these cars imo is a 35 offset. 38-42 seems to be ideal for 15's with aftermarket wheels. Especially if you plan to lower it at all.

The ride performance issue seems unanswered to me. As I understand it a lower offset changes the suspension geometry and alters the handling. What changes, both physically and performance wise?

Also, if you want to alter from the stock tire position, what's the best way to do that without changing the handling? If you're going with a wider tire, do you want the new tire to be "centered" on the position of the stock tire, the outside in the same location, or the inside in the same location?

Thank You for the explanation, I definitely have a better understanding of the fitment now.

Thinking of running 17x8 +35 for now using the stock tires. Going with RCE lowering springs, anyone think rubbing would be a problem with that set up? Have yet to see that on a 2015

I have those wheels in black on my CWP. I like the black on white. My next choice would be the bronze. Not crazy about the blue ones.

Default fitment question

For 2015 STI
Looking at XXR 521 18x8.5 35mm offset w/ 245/40/18 or 235/45/18?
Do I need longer wheel stud?

Thanks

Every time someone puts a set of xxr wheels on an sti, penguins die. Do you really want to be a penguin killer?

IMHO you should put in the few hundred more dollars into wheels. For the cost of 6 months car insurance u decrease the risk that ur wheels fail and possibly destroy your car. Unlikely, but getting in a major accident is unlikely too,but you still get insurance.
