^^^ Looks pretty complete. I will mention that instead of buying/assembling your own voltage regulator for the backup camera, several of us have used THIS with excellent results.

The 28-pin harness I used is HERE.

Anyone have the wiring schematic for connecting a Maestro SW module to a 2016 WRX (28-pin connector)?

Has anyone found a replacement bezel to fit that isn't the faux carbon fiber? I swapped out the trim pieces for the brushed silver crosstrek pieces immediately and don't want to add any back. I know I could wrap or paint it, but if there's an oem solution that'd be awesome.

It's a Toyota Harness. Pic is HERE

I do know they use the middle 3 wires on the connector. Pins 21, 22, 23.
SW's black/white goes to yellow.
SW's Purple/red goes to brown/black
SW's pink/red goes to blue/yellow.
you'll need to contact pdh12v for any software downloads.

I think that faux CF look is really nice. Way nicer than cheap brushed plastic look and def better than the shiny black. The CF matches your dash trim Because of this...Nope. Haven't looked to see if there was any other options.

SW WIRING:

Red - Accessory (same as new radio)
Black- Ground (same as new radio)
SW COLOR - VEHICLE COLOR
Black/White - yellow/white
Pink/Red - Blue/Yellow
Purple/Red - Brown/Black

IF YOU WANT ACCESS TO THE FLASH, you need to PM me your username on the website, and I can grant you access to the download, it is done however we are waiting on an official release, which will need to have an install manual drawn up and it takes some time. All of the info is here on this thread for the install, and it has been working 100% for me.

@phd12v is there an updated firmware for the rr as well as the sw? I'm debating which to get. If there is, what functions beyond the sw does it support (OBDII, I assume, but any other integration?

it is live on the site, albeit a better photo could have been used without my keys in the background, lol

RR gives you more choices for the 22 functions you CAN program....
wiring is the same as the SW except the RR has a Gray/red for ACC and yellow for constant and black for ground. Also I still need to approve the flash on the RR.

Kenwood and Alpine will give you gauges with an RR and a compatible radio.

Other than that that is it.

Thanks for the update. I'm probably going with a Kenwood HU, so it's tempting. If it was able to make use of the stock mic that would seal it, but I'
m not shocked that it doesn't.

it doesn't at this time, we might be able to do something at some point, but it is low on the totem pole at the moment, maybe next year when I have my vehicle at the mothership....but until then it will be gauges and steering wheel controls for now.

I did look at the wiring and take some measurements on the mic stuff and I did some background info on the reverse camera input... the RR can output a 6 volt signal....so there are a few things we could do extra with it, but right now it is not that high in the grand scheme of things... ill work on them though.

Hey guys, just picked up a 16 wrx and as you all have pointed out the stock 6.2" Starlink system is an absolute joke. I traded in a 2012 Sonata with just a basic non-screen dash that was light years ahead of this thing it terms of sound quality and usability.... its kind of a joke they can expect us to pay close to $30k for these cars with this audio system, but I am just beating a dead horse at this point.

two things, first does anyone have any pictures of their aftermarket HU installed? I want to see what that looks like, and second does anyone have a total price payed to install a new system? after putting a lot of money down on the car I dont feel like spending more, but I am so disappointed in this stock system I might have to.

to do an aftermarket one, you will need a bunch of stuff. If you want steering wheel controls you are good.....mounting the radio is all good too, you will lose your Satellite radio as it is in the factory radio, get the factory usb adaptor so you can retain that, the hardest part is the dash parts needed, like has been said, you will need the non-nav 2015 dash (I bought the nav one by accident and now im stuck with it.... and the vent unit above it, I went anf found a complete set on ebay ad it fits perfect with the right parts. then all you need to do is pick a radio and grab some harnesses. If you want the back up camera to work you need to make a 6 volt unit yourself or buy on on amazon/ebay but I will tell you the camera doesn't look the saem, it is more of a fisheye camera on the new radio, it isn't bad technically, its usable, but isn't as sharp as it was with the original radio.

I found the original radio IDEA was good, but poorly implemented and has a severe lack of POWER. I also have a audiocontrol LC6i here just in case I do go back to using it, so I can go all outboard amplification...cause that's the only way it will sound decent..... but you will need a processor of some sort also, as the factory radio has a lot of nasty built in eq curves.....

all in all I did the math, and going the aftermarket radio route ended up being the better value. Just putting one in you will increase the volume two fold, and the speakers don't sound that terrible either.

So you are saying it is not possible to tune the sound properly just with EQ that's in the factory headunit and whatever controls are in LC6i and amplifier?

tuning the sound properly may ne different for you versus me,for a normal person that wants to increase the volume and add an amp and use the built in eq it can be fine.... if you want to do it the best way you will need an outboard processor to clean up the factory headunit signal....there are a few different ways to do it. paying 600 dollars for a processor to keep the factory radio?? not really interested in that (IMO) I would rather use that money towards having an in dash that works to my specs since it is the "heart" of the system.

it depends on how much you care about audio. Just changing all the speakers and amping them on the stock radio makes a huge difference to me. I'm not an audio guru anymore. Just wanted to be able to listen to it at level 15 and hear it. Mine sounds good and i spent less than $500 and also soundproofed all 4 doors. I may add a small sub, but still I am way less than what it would have cost me to do the headunit and everything else.

I bet. I had no idea on all the crap that was needed to keep the stock components and for aftermarket install (steering controls, camera acesories, USB & antenna adapters, '15 radio bezel, '15 upper vent bezel..etc)
I think I have $300 in just accessories to get the HU to fit and work with OEM integration. It's absurd.

I am thinking I was going to go this route. I was thinking an LC6i + a 4 channel amp would work well with the upgraded Kicker speakers that easily drop into the current mounting holes. I would probably add a 300w 10" sub to the trunk to just get that extra little bit of oomph. The stock HU sucks, but the amount of effort it would take to get an aftermarket HU installed is crazy.

What did you use for sound proofing the doors?

box of stinger roadmat on amazon for $99 did all four doors. I had some foam tiles in my garage and placed those where it made sense too.

I think a LC6i would work well, i used cheap $10 Locs, but the LC6i is on my list if I get a sub.

Does anyone know if the CV641UL deck on the 2016 WRX has a remote wire?

I don't know, but 99% sure no. None of these decks have remote wires. Whatever you are using for signal out should cover that though.

I think this was asked before, but is anyone planning on doing a parts list and a step by step for the HU swap? I'm dying to get at it, but am way too novice to do so without learning aides!

I already did a parts list post #250, so did others(although there was wrong info in beginning on their part with USB adapters). Please go through the thread where you'll also find other valuable install info!

and FWIW, i've been through every post in this thread...a few times, so please take the time you expect others to write you a personal install post and read through this thread a bit more.

add:
If you are a novice, you may want to just bring your car to a shop. This car ranks up there with most difficult radio install I have ever done! I've done hundreds btw and am very savvy electrically(Electronics degree..haha)

Wow that carbon fiber bezel looks so... aftermarket! Especially with the black adapter bezel between the head unit and the actual carbon fiber bezel. Ugh... Makes my eyes bleed

I would love an aftermarket HU but it needs to look stock. It is incredible why there are no aftermarket products that actually look stock. </rant>

Then I guess you think your dash inserts look so...aftermarket too right? Same stuff. The bezel everyone is using is a factory 2015 OEM and looks pretty darn good IMO. zMaybe pics dont show as good. It certainly looks WAY better than brushed or plain gloss black!
I agreeabout the mounting kit looking cheap. I have already planned on molding/sanding and spraying mine to match my radio...gloss black unfortunately.lol

Yeah, now that I think of it, that's probably that mounting kit's fault not the carbon fiber bezel. It would be cool though if it was all one piece without adapter.

the gloss black starlink setup looked way out of place to me... actually my 15 piece looks more uniform due to the carbon fiber inserts on dash, my opinion though
