Saw a 17 Golf R at the sandwich shop. I like the new wheel design.

I wouldn't call it a lie. But reality is that most dealers are doing MSRP still. Only a handful are offering anything.

There are always edge cases where someone gets an amazing deal. Regional, end of month, somebody plays golf with the owner, etc, etc.

But $4K off MSRP is not happening on a broad scale on the R. To the best of my knowledge VW is offering no rebates to dealers no an R so a dealer is either making up the loss on volume or other incentives. I am still seeing MSRP in my area but I bet you can get $500-750 or so off it you work them.

Also people don't always tell the full story. You might get the dealer to knock money off the R but then they rape you on your trade-in. Car dealers have lots of ways to make money off a deal.

Right, I just never got a call back to even get on with arranging a price at one dealer, so my wife called and we were told we could put down a deposit and be put on the waiting list behind 3 other people with a turn around time of a year. **** that. It sort of hurts my feelers, I just wanted to buy a car.

Sorry to hear that. I visited three VW dealerships before buying my R. If you live in a region with sparse options, I understand your situation. Many to choose from in crowded SoCal, so I didn't hesitate to take my business elsewhere.

Canadians usually get the short end of the stick so it's weird to see the tables turned. I don't know any people around me that paid MSRP.

The lowest quote I got a few days ago was about $2600 off MSRP on a DSG, even though the dealer was claiming $4000 off MSPR. They take the amount off MSRP with destination, then add the cost of destination on top again and a $600 dealer processing fee (some others are charging $300). That was from the lowest advertised VW dealer in the country. Today my search shows 2 other dealers advertising at $125 lower. We have a lot of Golf Rs for sale within 40 miles of me.

If I cant get a little better deal I'm buying my wife a Forester Touring or Limited Outback.

Why wouldn't you use a Golf R as a DD? It's a compromise car that's designed to do exactly that...
Because I put on 35k-40k miles a year and it would just get beaten to hell. Not too mention those are not comfy seats for that type of mileage driven. The seats are nice, and I like them but not when your spending lots of time getting in and out.

Thankfully I don't pay for the gas (reimbursed by my employer). But spending that much time in a small car is really uncomfortable.

Been awhile since I've posted here on Nasioc. I am a proud and happy owner of a 2017 Oryx R DSG/DAP/NAV/DCC. The car has ridiculous amounts of tech and is refined, quick, and fun to drive! Practical to boot! Prices and markups are ridiculous for this car, but I will say I got quite the deal. I'm a couple below invoice. If anyone is seriously interested, I will give you the info of the Audi/VW contact and how to get your R for invoice price. I am the 9th person who has purchased from them and their inventory is always good with the R's. Cheers and happy motoring! I love this car!

Kind Regards,
Ryan

Looks like VW of West Houston in Katy is showing 2k off MSRP. They say that includes a trade in rebate but when I go to my GTI they still gave me that discount and more. Also 22k for a GTI Sport...

Haha, not needed.

I will say though that the Golf R is the most well rounded car I ever owned. If I had the option of keeping it and ant Vette I would have.

I know you felt the same way about it.
