Nokia 8 sounds disappointing as well, and only in Europe (for now).

https://www.theverge.com/2017/8/16/1...s-dual-cameras

Quote:
HMD Global, the Finnish company that licensed the rights to produce Nokia phones, is revealing the company’s first Nokia-branded Android flagship phone today. The new Nokia 8 will be available in early September across Europe, priced at 599 euros ($705). As we saw with the leaks, the Nokia 8 has a 5.3-inch display (2560 x 1440), and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage.
...
After my brief time with the Nokia 8, I wasn’t left blown away by the handset. It’s very much an average “flagship” compared to what we’re expecting from Apple this year, and what we’ve seen Samsung achieve with the Galaxy S8. HMD isn’t setting the bar high here with an uninspiring design, a lack of waterproofing or wireless charging, and a price point that doesn’t make this a cheap Android phone with good specs. That’s especially relevant when HMD has competition like the OnePlus 5.

I have major OCD with this junk, thankfully these kinds of cases are cheap. If I don't have matching cases in different colors for my personal and work phones, I literally can't even. I even went so far as to find folio case for my iPad mini that's similar in design and finish.

I'm all about the Mophie juice pack air life.

Wireless charging. Battery pack. I don't mind the extra bulk. Solid drop protection.

Currently using a matte black one with my 7 plus.

So, my father in law has a Kyocera Duraforce Pro and android system is just crushing the battery...

He barely uses the phone at all, so a full charge was lasting him two days before. I think it may have something to do with the Android system update that isn't downloading. Any suggestions?

First, turn off Backup in Settings -> Backup & Reset -> Backup my data,
then go to Settings -> Storage & USB -> Internal storage -> Cached Data -> clear the cache, then reboot.

Then go to Settings -> Location -> 3-dot-menu -> Scanning -> Turn off Wifi Scanning

See if there's any improvement.

Are we making an Android Oreo thread? Damn it's dead in here.

Would the 2014 Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet be able to handle Kodi 17.3?

Should be able to handle it no problem. If Kodi can run well on things like Fire Stick and some of the crap top boxes they sell on eBay, I don't see how the note 10.1 will have issues.

My favorite part is that it has a bigger screen, but smaller battery than the S8+

My favorite part is $930

It will be hard not to chuckle at anyone I see in public with one, knowing they burned that much on it.

I hadn't seen the price till right now. Holy ****. That's ballsy considering last years mess.

I was hoping to get a new phone this year, but nothing is really hitting most of my checklist items. I hope the Galaxy S9 next year will have the fingerprint sensor fixed (in the front, underneath the screen).

So far having it on the back has not been a big deal. The only time it's a bit sucky is when its in the dash cradle. But my cradle allows me to easily reach around to activate it It seems you can pretty much rotate your finger to any angle and still get a successful read.

Also, paying $900 for a phone is completely ridiculous. Thanks for the trade-in deals Samsung. $425 is the right price.

That's the lowest price from T-Mobile. AT&T and Verizon are $950 and Sprint is $999

Apple's been doing it for years.

The last Note I bought was the Note 3 on contract for $300. I think retail was only 700. Crazy.

Even $578 (out the door) for my S8+ was a lot.

Edit: Samsung now says the unlocked variant is $929. All carriers other than T-Mobile are charging a premium to install their crapware.

I don't understand why anyone would pay more for bloatware. I admit I bought a Verizon S8+ for my wife but at the time it was cheaper than the unlocked one by a few dollars.

The only two things that don't work right on the unlocked phone are Visual Voicemail (which I've never used anyway) and WiFi calling. I can live without those. But the unlocked phone lets me tether away on my grandfathered UDP so I think that's a fair trade

I bought my S8+ at release. I did get the VR headset though for free... Which I've used a couple of times...

I prefer the fingerprint on the back. When I pay with Samsung Pay it's just so much easier to hold the phone and finger the back. : yeah: Trying to hold it one handed and thumb the bottom of the front side is awkward. Feels like I am balancing my phone while I try to thumb it.

Yep, thought I wouldn't like it but actually prefer it to my S7e. To be honest though I think the next gen of phones should do the in screen fingerprint reader and back. That way you have both covered for desk duty unlocking and all else.
