All it means is they put them on a car that isnt real for a photo shoot. I believe nothing, as much as I want to see it.

I hope that widebody stays. It was the best part of the GR. Also, that scoop is tiny, wonder if they’re gonna get away from tmic?

Anybody who thinks that Subaru is actually going to make the production car look like the concept is out of touch with reality.

The car has no real headlights, no door handles, no side mirrors, trapezoidal wheel arches, 20" wheels, and 200tw tires. As mentioned, it's a design language concept.. and a busy, overdesigned one at that.

I'm optimistic about the SGP STI. Since they always tone down the concept for production, and that concept is a few notches down from the Type R (imo), it could shape up to be a pretty good looking car judging by the design language.

...I just have 2 things to ask of Subaru: make those brake duct cooling looking intakes functional! and keep those flared fenders please!
That's how concept cars work. I'm glad the production car doesn't have 22" wheels and cameras for side view mirrors. The concept car looked like it was 3ft too long because they moved the rear wheels completely behind the rear doors. vomit

True, but I hope they still translate some, maybe overly, aggressiveness to the production vehicle.

I don't think anyone expects those things you listed to make it.

I'm of the camp that the VA, though not as dramatic as the concept, kept the spirit and overall look intact so But I get why people got frustrated -- the angles and some of the detail in the concept were possible to do. This SGP seems more of a concept to me in comparison, tbh.

I would love cameras for sideview mirrors easier to keep clean if its tucked inside the cabin and people don't go knocking into them in parking lots. You can even have the image projected HUD style and you won't have to take your eyes off what's ahead of you. And its more aerodynamic.

All the other things... not expecting them to appear as is.

Guys, guys, guys...

Take some of the concepts, like the flared fenders, hood scoop, spoiler, and maybe a few lines from the bumpers, and place them on an impreza greenhouse, and that will be the next STI.

/thread.

Subaru made a statement by dropping the Impreza name from the WRX. They need to go one further and drop the Impreza body altogether and further develop the BRZ for such a vehicle. Otherwise it’s big car tall greenhouse with extra flares to make it look more rally car all over again. With no connection to the Impreza, a WRX can be anything. They already got a low roof sports car, use it like a bloody Subaru already! Bring back the 22B.

I hate those, the fenders flares and the red accents. the red accent will likely not make it to at least the production WRX variations.

A SC exec was quoted saying they were working on it. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the next one has the option. And if it's gonna have the option, it's gonna have EyeSight available.

Well, I guess the debate can be that it is less Impreza now than it ever has been(including 22B). And now with the SGP, how much similarity will it keep? Or how much can the "separate" it further? It's going to have the family look. I have zero doubt in that; so, it'll still be criticized for being too much Impreza though it's likely to me that it'll be even more different.

Why's that? Impreza hasn't been a 2 door far longer than was a 2 door. It was a 2 door for a single ONE generation. They have a 2 door sports car filling ZERO need in their lineup. It fills Toyoda's need in his lineup, but the BRZ should be more SUBARU than a lightweight nimble low power RWD car Toyota wanted. It's there. Use it. Throwing more and more ugly at a bloated compact sedan body they are trying to tell everyone isn't what the WRX or STI is seems more work than just going ape**** on a low slung BRZ.

Is performance more defined in the oversized bloated compact sedan segment or the 2 door sports car segment? I see no Evo. I only see bloated compact hatchbacks. Where's your at Subaru going along with selling a 2WD sports car on your lot? You seem confused with your own brand and shrug at Toyota's meddling because it's convenient and easier that way.

22B all the BRZs.

There is way more of a market for 4 door performance related cars than there is 2 door, imo. People are moving more practical, not less.

Where are these 4 door performance compact sedans the WRX and STI supposedly compete with? Is Audi and Mercedes their new segment? Why not make the M235xi and M2 their new segment? With the demise of the Impreza name, nothing is holding them to this formula. The Evo died. Why continue to carry that flame especially when sedans are on the way down and the BRZ is seemingly going to continue on forever regardless of sales?

With the way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if the carbon flares on this concept turned into black cladding and the car was lifted to become a crossover.

But now that I'm thinking about it, I don't think many people here would be upset about a Crosstrek STi.

according to autoexpress the next gen will be a hybrid motor with only cvt. I don't know how legitimate autoexpress is but that would be heartbreaking

How about a flared 22BRZ with carbon roof and wing and 330 hp and AWD?

I feel I'm the only one ever upset about anything Subaru does. Which is always. Always and ever. Hello, I own a Legacy GT wagon. It's mutual.

Subaru already confirmed they would not drop the manual trim from the wrx and STI.
