I have a 16 wrx premium and recently discovered a crazy creak (wouldnt call it a squeak or rattle) coming from either the rear deck, back windshield, possibly c pillars, or maybe even suspension. It sounds like a metal on metal creak and happens when I drive slowly going in and out of my driveway . Does anyone else have this? I'm dying to find the source and fix it!
Its hard to locate the source....I need someone in the backseat while I replicate the sound

A member on here has a YouTube channel (he's a bit anal which isn't a bad thing to most) posted this video about his rattle in the rear deck. |

'17 WRX. Rear rattles from three places. Rear 3rd brake light fix: i laid some thin open cell foam under the light, then put thin heatshrink around the two hinge clips next to the glass and around the clip in the back.
lastly, stuffed the rest of my foam up under the circle hole just like the video above (just watched that after doing my fix). the center seatbelt container rattles like crazy. Haven't figured out a fix for that yet. last rattle is the metal bars underneath. i'll look at that soon as well, but the brake light was the worst Last edited by blackseafleet; 08-07-2017 at 07:01 PM. |

Finally tracked down and fixed a rattle/squeak that has annoyed me for several months today in my 16 STI. It always sounded like a metal on metal sound coming from driver's door or dash, hard to pinpoint. Finally I randomly put pressure on the knee air bag cover under the steering wheel and it stopped. After some searching, the bolt that holds the airbag on was loose causing the brackets to rattle/squeak against each other.

Recently developed a rattle that sounds like it's coming from the passenger side of the car. Only occurs at very low speeds i.e. pulling into a parking lot. The noise sounds as if some plastic pop clips were left in the cubby but all my cubbies are completely empty. All panels feel firm and I checked the glovebox as well. Will update when I find out what it is.

Did anyone try going bonkers and spraying each gap/clip/crack with a PTFE dry lubricant? seems to me it's the only lube that will last, silicone or oil just evaporates or leaks.

Well I'm not familiar with the older subies, but if it's anything like the new ones, just pull off every interior panel (door cards) and pillar cover you can get to, and put electrical tape where the plastic clips are clipped on to so that they hold everything more securely. Then with the door cards off, check to make sure every connector is secure and doesn't make noise when you wiggle it. Jam electrical tape, or use a hot glue gun ($7@ walmart) as required.
50cents of electrical tape has made my interior completely silent and did a way better job than the dealer ever did. if you still have rattles, have a friend crawl around your car while driving to figure out where it is coming from. I did this "full treatment" on my friend's 2017 wrx (and fixed his 3rd brake light and trunk torsion bar squeaks by crawling around the trunk) his car went from noisy rattle bucket to silent. |

Any fixes for the extremely dumb miscalculation of manual shifter reverse ring lockout rattle from 15+ manual vehicles? I actually have a ticket open with SOA for this so anything I can give them will help speed this crap up.
link I have given them with fix at 3:26 in this vid As complex as this part is, I can't believe they haven't addressed this in 2 years. |

Any updates on this, my new rattle is coming somewhere from the passenger side. Sounds like its something hitting up against a metal panel, like a tinny sound. Hard to tell exactly where it's coming from. Sometimes it sound like it actually in the dash close to the pillar but lower down. Drives me crazy. Thanks |

2017 here. My new rattle is coming somewhere from the passenger side dash area. Sounds like its something hitting up against a metal panel, like a tinny sound. At first I thought it could be the plastic corrugated wire covering hitting against the inner fender right by the door. I looked all inside between the door jam and hing and everything looks tight and still clipped in place. Hard to tell exactly where it's coming from. Sometimes it sounds like it actually in the dash close to the pillar but lower down. Drives me crazy.
Any suggestions would be great. thanks. |

Once you have that off, use a hot glue gun or electrical tape to jam in to everywhere that's rattling or tape off. I also removed every plastic clip on the door card, put a piece of electrical tape over the hole where it was and put the clip back on such that the tape would jam up and keep it from rattling around. I did this on all my doors and my friends doors and I have zero rattles from any of them, and the doors sound much more solid when closing. |

I think I can contribute to this thread. Ever since we removed the radio, there was a small rattle coming from it. After I bought a new phone mount, rattle is gone. The trick is just to wedge something in the gaps.

ok my turn to ask for help. Heard this new squeak/chirp from around the passenger dash area. Even with the air off it still makes the sound. Small bumps (can't replicate it with hitting the door or dash area).

2003 wrx wagon, been hunting a recent rattle coming from the rear area. Happens on bumps, closing the hatch, etc. Fixed all trunk fasteners, tightened hatch spoiler and that helped a lot but rattle was still present. One day i noticed small rust on the cargo area and found the problem on the upper area that attaches to the headliner clip. Removed headliner, cleaned and treated area with POR-15, repaired remaining area from hatch gasket and all is good!

Having a passenger sit in the car and help track down the sound might also be helpful. |

Sounds are notoriously hard to track down, so like I said, I'd start with the obvious culprits that make noise in most people's cars. While you have the panels off, wiggle everything to see if there is any chance of noise. The window control connectors are often a problem. |

I had something similar with my 16, spent months trying to locate, sounded like metal rubbing and seemed to come from different areas of the car. Turned out to be my knee airbag bracket was loose. Snugged it up a little and gone. Also had a 15 with metal on metal sound, turned out to be my seat belt latch. Put a little silicone grease on the bottom of the stem where it was rubbing against the stop and gone. |
