That's black and white decal doesn't look bad though. But if it's a glossy black it might stand out a bit against the matte.

Anyone's thoughts on the kicker speaker upgrade? Not looking for anything fancy. I just like the fact everything is plug and play. Thoughts?

This is true. I'll see what I can come across and go from there. I am happy wiht the current state and wouldn't want to complicate things.

I've had the kicker upgrade on both my Impreza and now my WRX. Worth the money for ease of installation alone. Could be better, but most of Subaru's sound system issues are because of the stock radios.

It was good enough to do them again on my WRX.

That's what I wanted to hear. I liked the fact it's all plug and play. Just want to get the crappy paper speakers out and something a little bit better in without much work. I think I'm going to snag the tweeters and door speakers.

If you haven't pulled off door cards yet, be prepared for some unpleasant noises. It's going to sound like you're breaking something in half but it's just the fasteners popping out of the metal door. But it's super easy.

Haha thanks for the tip. I have a set of the plastic tools that help a lot with that kind of stuff.

Night and day difference honestly. I own them in my 2016 Impreza (without the upgraded tweeters, just stock tweeters in the Limited trim) and the quality improvement even on stock head unit is like going from a bunch of trash cans to a professional orchestra.

You can see a direct visual comparison of the speakers units here, it's basically a joke how bad the stock ones are

I can put you in contact with my decal/vinyl guy. He has most files already on his system and you may not need to provide a png or PDF to get it done. He can also adjust the measurements or layouts to sit on the spokes smaller or larger which may help.

This x1000. I honestly thought I was going to break the door card in half the first time I pulled it off.

I'm honestly very glad that my sti can with the HK radio (even though the interior does rattle a bit at the rear deck).
My buddies base wrx radio is really, really bad.

Yeah the HK radio is pretty stout for what it is. I would be more than happy with that if I had it. In fact, I was intially going for a base model with the HK and nav. However, they had 2 of those on the lot and they were red. I do love the red, but Lapis won me over and knew that extra 2-3k I would save I could spend way less and put it towards some solid speakers if I wanted. I am not looking for anything crazy so the kicker upgrade should suffice for me. The stock system is bad, but it's not 2013 WRX bad. Now THAT was bad. With the updated headunit, it actually sounds a bit better than the 2015 VA's. Not great, but better. I am sure the kicker tweeters and door speakers will give me the small upgrade I am looking for.

I am trying to find a used clean set, but the one person selling the whole thing isn't responding. Hopefully they see my PM and I can snag it.

The day I bought the STI, I test drove a white limited WRX which had all the options. Stereo sounded really nice and enjoyed all the amenities. There are some days I wonder if I should have snagged that car instead, but I keep thinking if I got that I would have been saying, I wish I got the STI. Sorta seeing what the 2020 STI has in store. Hopefully they up the features in both the STI and WRX.

My stereo in my STi is horrid. I have had that on my list of upgrades for song long but I always just get something else instead. I have the limited legacy and the audio is so much better. That could use little upgrades but it's tolerable. The STi is just awful lol.

Haha I’m the same way. I know I want to do the stereo but I keep getting other things. A head unit will make things a ton better. I planned to do the whole system in my Wrx, but after upgrading the head unit, I didn’t find the need. But in the sti, I just want to keep it simple and do speakers.

I did swap to the 07 limited radio in order to get the aux plug and stay OEM which is nice but the speakers are just trash.

Are speakers the weak point in the STi or is it still the head unit? I remember our hatches had some pretty decent drivers, just a really underpowered head unit. My BRZ’s stereo is even worse. The Fiesta isn’t bad at all though and that car is really cheap.

It even has CarPlay and android auto and you still can’t even get that in an STi.

A bit of both. Speakers are paper garage and headunit is too weak to drive them. The HK system is night and day in the new ones. I’m definitely

Me thinks the 2020 is going to be quite a step up in the refinement category. That will be my next car. Most likely STi. Hoping even the base stereo doesn’t suck ass.

That’s what I’m hoping as well. Going to enjoy this STI for now and then see what happens in 2020. If it’s a big upgrade, I’ll probably make the plunge.

They’re already falling behind but people are still buying them. Glad the Type R came out for competition. It’d be a bit ridiculous IMO if they don’t use the new platform in 2020. I can’t see more than one more MY on the dinosaur engine.

They fell behind a while ago haha. The current STI should have the new motor. However, the motor is still a ton of fun. I really enjoy it and plenty quick for the street.

Yeah the golf r, rs, and type r are all in that same bracket as the sti. I expect to see similar numbers with a much needed updated interior and amenities. I’m ready for the upper class STI haha.
