So Ford just announced the engine/hg recall for the RS.
Customer Letter: https://drive.google.com/file/d/13_-...KLpSwwidi/view Dealer Bulletin: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Rzl...X5GzvJsgb/view Replacement Procedure: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Sli...i8mFqJLeX/view Sounds like everyone's getting a new head gasket, and if the engine shows any signs of leaks or coolant in the cylinders a whole new head is coming.

sorry to bump, but was the 2018 the only model that got a front LSD, or was 2018 the only model that got it standard and it was available as an option on 2016 & 2017's as well?

2018 was the only model with LSD. 2016 and 2017 was not an option or standard.

That's the kicker; finding one to test drive locally. I know for a fact I'll have it in rear biased mode the whole time (aka "drift-mode") so the impact of the front mechanical LSD is reduced, and my current WRX is only LSD in the rear anyways, but it will always bug me if I don't try out both first since I'm a slut for mechanical diffs - but if it's a major delta between a 17 without and an 18 with I'll buy the 17 without and go aftermarket and/or FRPP counter

We paid sticker for ours, assuming you do as well there's a higher entry fee on the 18 as opposed to a 17 RS2. I would buy either without a moments hesitation.

The addition of an LSD is not a large enough performance benefit to worry about it (in this car). What they can do with brakes to mimic an LSD is already quite good. The reduction in front wheel independence has an overall negative impact on cornering. It's one reason an up-model didn't happen. |

Ford just sent out an email today. "$1,000 Private Cash on the 2017 Focus RS. An offer like this doesn't come around often. Take advantage of $1,000 Private Cash on the purchase or lease of a new 2017 Focus RS. That's above and beyond any current public offers. Visit your Ford Dealer soon." I've seen them as low as 34-35k, base, no option cars. Those are rare as most have options. And I'd suggest at least getting the RS2 package for the different seats, heated wheel, heated seats, Nav, etc. But the slick buyer could find one, easily (perhaps a different region than your own) for 4-5k off MSRP already, advertised, and this takes it down another 1k. So theoretically, the slick buyer could make out with one for 33-34k but would require skill. All dealers have been notified that the FSA must be completed prior to any new sale. So they have to change the gasket prior to selling the car. Good luck. I stole mine last February but damnit I would have loved the additional 1k off from the factory. Edit: Car doesn't need the LSD up front. I've had it out in heavy rain and it's a monster. Scooby says it's not needed and I agree 100%, and he knows way more than I do. |

Well do keep in mind it's the old lady's car so I don't get to drive it daily. Though she does have the STI today and I'm in the RS. What I can say for certain is that with the roads being nearly solid ice is that the traction control on the RS is much more aggressive than the STI. The STI will let me run to red line when all four break loose, the RS clamps down on that immediately and cuts power. Ford really doesn't like wheel spin. I think it must have beaten up a few of their engineers or something. I'm going to have to wait for the thaw to get a real feeling for it's handling.

You'll have to try each mode, turn TC/ESC off, go through all the modes and test each for optimum for YOU. And I hope you aren't driving that thing on ice, on the OEM MPSS. Hopefully you got the winter wheel/tire setup from them. |

Hey Pre, how do you get this 1,000$ private sales cash? I'm very close to buying an RS.

http://www.focusrs.org/forum/11-focu...-focus-rs.html It's out there. Sign up for Ford's email list. The email contained my Ford customer number but since this incentive is out there, it should only take some negotiation at your dealer of choice to get it. |

Are Canadian prices out of whack for the RS compared with the US?
All from manufacturer's websites, lowest price including delivery: 2018 Focus RS $60838 !!! 2018 Golf R $44341 2018 STI $41260 (doesn't include current $500 discount) 2018 Type R $42772 I'd like to consider the RS, but it's not gonna happen. |

Is any of that $60k stealership mark up? If so it's par for the Ford course.

I'd do a nationwide search on auto trader or cars.com. That way you can see new ones only, and sort pricing lowest to highest. Then you can find the markets that have them discounted 4k-5k. Plenty out there. Saving 4 or 5k on a car warrants shipping it or flying/driving it back home because you'll still save thousands. Some markets have very stubborn dealers like say the PNW. Others in the South, there are steep discounts to be had. I paid $1400 under invoice for mine. It was mid optioned (RS2, roof, but no forged wheels or winter wheel package) and I know from looking the loaded options get the higher discounts from MSRP. The loaded ones is where I'm seeing 5k off MSRP. Best deal I saw so far was loaded with everything possible, RS2, roof, forged, winter wheels, car cover, etc. 7k off. My deal for 20+ years, if local won't deal, OK, I'll buy elsewhere and ship it or drive it home myself. Money talks and bs walks.
