As far as the ECU selection, the 2500 might not be the best option. It really depends on what they want out of the car. After all, a full 2500 setup is around $3k, whereas something like an EMU will run most everything most people could want for around $1500. It just depends on end user requirements.
The haltech 750 will work if you run a falcon throttle body (i'm nasioc's unofficial dealer). The only downside is losing AVCS control, but I'm fairly confident it remains in an "always on" mode.

All the people saying the ez30 can't handle boost are crackpots. There are many ez30's running raptor superchargers for years at around 350whp completely unopened.

It is the toothpick rods that eventually break, following by frying the pistons. The cylinder walls themselves have stacks of material, the most you'll ever have to do is brace (pin) them to stop flex at very high power levels, and at that point you'd be a fool not to just get the deck closed.

the 750 handles 6 injectors? i though it only did 4. thats good to know. the 2500 will do avcs tho.

what would be the USDM equivalent to the falcon throttle body?

Yes the 750 is for 6 cyl. It doesn't have fly by wire though.

There isn't one, if you want one you'll need to get one sent over by either me or see if you can find one on the australian ebay

So totally out of the blue I know, but does anyone have an ez30 apart or know how thick the piston ringlands are?

I'd be interested to compare to the ej25 and maybe take a rough stab at what point they'd crack if you started winding boost into the stock engine.

The EZ30R in my car is coming up on 8 years old now. I run anywhere between 13 and 18psi depending on the use case.


This was at about 16psi, which is a map I ran for this road since this was my first time up this hill. (it was a closed road btw).

I ran my car yesterday at ORP at 16psi for the entire day, with most of that spent between 5k and 7k rpm at full throttle.

Honestly I am surprised how well this engine has held up given the significant abuse I have put it through. I have been running E85 for most of it's life, and with the power level I am running it is certainly knock resistant. I don't think I have ran regular gas in at least 6 years.

This is not a sleeved motor, just stock sleeves, ARP head studs, Supertech pistons, valves, and springs, Pauter rods, plus a really really old 35R. Factory rod and main bearings as well.

This winter the engine is coming out so I can put in the newer EZ from Perrins car (sleeved) that I am rebuilding.

As Patrick mentioned, supertech pistons. The stock pistons are both high compression and high silicon content, so not ideally suited for forced induction. I am running pretty big PWCs as well ( .004' ).

When I took apart Perrin's sleeved motor, I was surprised to see the PWCs were even larger ( almost .006' ). That engine ran great.

Power is between ~400whp and ~600whp depending on boost. I have usually run 16-18psi on the track, which is probably in the 500whp range.

I have been looking through the logs from this last track day, and I did have a few dips in oil pressure during hard cornering. Nothing crazy (down from perhaps 60psi to 35psi), but enough for me to consider looking at adding an accusump.

Ah yes, i missed that.

Yours is basically fully built with off the shelf components then. I'd be interested to see just how much abuse it could take before it went bang. I have plans of sticking a gtx4088 on mine when i build it, one day...

Time to add another car to the H6 list.

I just picked up a late model ez30 with intentions of replacing the 257 in my track car (before it gives up ideally). I plan on running the motor on low boost on the factory rods, pistons etc at first and build a second bottom end as budget permits. From what im reading 350whp is attainable on stock parts on low boost (correct me if im wrong) which will be a nice boost in power from the 272 im tracking with currently.

Obligatory engine photo, overall it looks clean on the outside. My hunch is it was pressure washed though up close under the intake its pretty clean throughout as well.



Only 'damage' i see is the oil filter is bent, a hard coolant line that t's from what im guessing is a heater core feed and the tb circuit is broken and one of the Variable valve lift diagnosis oil pressure switch's is broken in two, my guess all caused from a rushed engine pull





I do have a couple of questions, was there ever aftermarket engine mounts made? something solid or with a urethane mount? And I see the factory ez30 system is a dead-headed rail type with a return off the factory regulator. Was that system sufficient on mild builds or is it necessary to convert it to a series or parallel system?

On FB there's a "Six Swapped Subarus" group which I joined a few months back. Through that group I've found that there's a guy over in Russia (Sergey Kein) that makes engine mounts for the EZ engines (among others applications). I haven't ordered any yet, but some other folks here in the US have, and he seems to be legit.

You can also get the old engine mounts from the alloy manifold EZ30D, which were actually harder/tougher than the liquid filled ones that replaced them on the EZ30R

I've decided to give up and let someone else do the harness merging for me, since I'm probably never going to get it done myself. Only took me a couple years to come to that conclusion. I contacted iWire a couple weeks ago and bounced some emails back and forth. They don't normally do the Vi-pec, but they're willing to take it on. Last night I finished getting the main harness out of the car. Had a couple things that I wanted to clarify with iWire to make sure I was sending them what they needed.

Pulling the harness makes me embarrassed to see the various hack jobs that have been done over the years - vampire taps here and there for keyless entry, stereo, DCCD controller, etc.



In the middle of the harness is the Spiider DCCD (center differential) controller, which iWire will also fix up.

Started to make some headway. I decided I dont want to use the welded mounts and will make my own. My plan was to make an adapter to use an existing mount so I didnt have to re-invent the wheel twice. In my search for some reference photos I found that someone with a FF 818 did the same with his design adapting the group N mount, which will accept any other OEM style engine mount and he agreed to share his design with me.

This is where I am at now, The base's are over 2.5lbs each and the solid ej style mount is a lb which is heavier than I want, however I will verify the fitment before I spend time taking out weight.

Got all my wiring harness stuff shipped off to iWire a couple weeks ago. I asked about paying extra for a rush job (an option they offer on their website), but Brian said they were too stacked up to take on another rush job. So, he said it should be ready around the end of April.

In the meantime, I picked up a used set of 328x28mm Stoptechs, so I'll get those on the car. They came with cross-drilled rotors, so I'll use those on the street, and I've already bought a new set of slotted rotors that will be used on track. Yeah, I may be getting a little ahead of myself, but there's a faint light at the end of the tunnel now.

Ok, guys, I am in the process of swapping out my 2.5 for a 3.0 H6. I have a 2001 Subaru Impreza RS if that means anything at all for this. The 3.0 is out of a 04 Legacy. I have all of the wiring and computers from both vehicles. My problem currently is that I cannot find the ECU Pinpoint wiring diagram anywhere! Any of you veterans wanna help a girl out? My husband and I are going CRAZY trying to find this mythical beast.

for my 818 project i repoured the factory mounts with liquid urethane. made them thinner so i can space the engine back up to where i wanted it easily.

Just talked to Brian @ iWire and paid off the invoice, my harness should be shipping out today or tomorrow. I'm going to have to actually get my ass in gear and get to work on this thing soon!
