Thank you for the reply! I will probably go with the 8.5’s then.

![]() Hey guys just purchased a set of Work M8R’s 18x9.5 +38mm. Have done a lot of research on what tire size I should go with. Was leaning toward 255/35/18 or 255/40/18. Any suggestions? 17 wrx, stock suspension

If you’re on stock suspension I think the 255/40 will fit. I’m lowered on Swifts with the same spec wheels and I’m on 255/35 no rubbing but it’s super close. |

Thanks for the info. I was thinking about doing those springs as well to shorten up the wheel gap. But I think a 40 series tire would rub. Are you a fan of those Swifts? |

![]() Swift springs were my first mod and no regrets at all. Car feels more planted, less body roll, less nose dive under hard braking, handles like a dream and still relatively comfortable for a DD. It's only a mild drop (1") so there is almost no reason not to get them unless you live in the Swiss Alps or something.
255/40 should fit on stock suspension no problem, on the Swifts they may need a slight roll. 255/35 would be better. |

![]() I just bought a set of wheels in the same specs. I am going to go with Continental Extreme Contact Sports in 255/40/18 as I am staying stock height for now. Lowering as others have said may need a roll.

I’m lowered on RCE yellows. I have stock BBS (18x8.5+55) and 255/40 Continental DWS06. I didn’t rub initially but once I put 20mm spacers on, it did rub by the bumper tabs. The tires have basically filed away 1/2 of the bumper clip. My rears are rolled too and I still rubbed. ![]() ![]() Last edited by skeeter281; 03-25-2018 at 12:17 AM. |

![]() Got my wheels and tires installed finally. VERY happy with the look so far, a mild drop is probably in my future.
Here's some flushness pics rear front directly overhead front at the same angle as the wheel camber Love the tread Thoughts: These are 18x9.5 +40, I would not want a single mm less offset without dropping the car but I'm OK with the current poke. I wonder if 18x9.5 +42 or +45 would be even more ideal at stock height (assuming you'd not want a poking front.) |

![]() What size tires are you running? I received my TE37s from Kamispeed, same size and offset as your 57dr, and can't decide on tire size. I'm lowered about an inch all around on HKS hipermax gt coilovers with 1.5 camber up front and 2.0 camber in the rear. Really leaning towards 255/40.

![]() Hey guys, I need some additional info on best wheel/tire combo for my needs and was hoping you can help me. Little about me: I come from a 350Z background and while I still love those rear-wheel drives, they're simply not all year round cars. I've always been interested in the Subaru AWD system and it's all year round appeal, so I finally bought a ice silver 2015 WRX base in 8/17 and absolutely love it!
![]() I've been searching for a second set of wheels & tires as I'm dedicating my oem wheels w blizzacks to winter duty only. I am interested in the following wheels: Rays volks or gram lights, bronze color, and plan on putting either the Michellen PS 4S or the Michellen PS A/S 3+ (BTW, if you have other wheel/tire set-up that you think may fit what I'm looking for, please feel free to let me know!), 255-35-18 or 245-40-18. I’m looking to purchase within the next couple of weeks as the weather here in Lake Tahoe is warming up quickly and the blizzacks don’t last long under those conditions. What I’m looking for is as follows: 1). Performance first, looks second 2). Forged vs cast with flow forming - I want it lite and strong. But is forged worth it since my car is my DD along with occasionally track & auto-crossing? 3). Being my DD, I occasionally have stuff in the trunk and since I do some Uber/Lyft driving, I do occasionally have passengers. So this means that I don’t want the tire/wheel to rub under weight, with comfort being a secondary concern. 4). I want low unsprung weight. In reference to #2 above, if I go larger, for example like when I go from 17x8 to 18x9.5 as most Subaru online sites wheels/recommend this size, while I know I’m gaining some weight, what am I gaining by going with that size? More specifically, why do you guys ( and many other sites as well, mostly have that size for our cars? Is it mainly for looks, or is it best for all around performance (I'm concerned mostly with the latter)? 5). Scrub radius and contact patch. I understand that wheel width itself doesn’t make much difference in grip because either a narrower or wider wheel will essential have the same contact patch area, it just the shape of the tire deformation under weight that’s different, correct? That said, a wider tire will deform more laterally (ie rectangle), giving you more grip for track event while cornering. Conversely, a narrower tire will deform more from front to back (ie looks more like a square), being better for straight line traction. As I’m into tracking, whats the wheel and tire width sweet spot? I don’t want to roll my fenders or any of that stuff. 6). Brake clearance. I want whatever wheel I get to be able to have enough clearance to add a big brake kit in the future w/o worries. Is the offset of 38 that's usually recommended with 18x9.5 help with that? Also, what face is needed? 7). Keeping stock height. I know that’s a lot of stuff, but I want to only ‘buy once, cry once’, meaning I want to be fully informed before I make a significant and vitally important purchase as this. Thanks in advance guys! ![]() Thanks! I love them so far. No tramlining, no odd behavior, they stick like nothing I've owned before, including Michelin PSS and Conti Contact Sport, as well as previous iterations of the Indy 500 (directional type), and every other tire I've had in the past. The damn things are just tenacious. Also much more quiet than stock.
I paid less than $120 + install per, so I'm a happy camper! |

Conti's extremecontact sports are great alternatives though to it, the summer version of the conti, not the all season version. Although the all season conti's are good too. And i noticed on TR that the price of the indy 500's are going up lol. Which leads me to believe this is a great tire. The reviews are amazing too. Going to have to buy some now for the summer. Before the price jumps again. |

2. Forged will always be lighter. Take a forged Rays vs an Enkei Racing Revolution, the Rays will still be upwards of 2 pounds lighter per wheel. That said, for performance with race tires, cheapest I'd consider is an enkei cast wheel, or a Enkei RR that's a bit lighter and stronger. But some manufactures such as Titan7 can make fully forged wheels cheaper than an Enkei RR. 3. 4. 5. A 9.5 forged wheel or even an aftermarket Enkei Cast will be lighter than the stock. The perfect offset of a 9.5 wheel to preserve scrub radius and maximize performance would be a 18x9.5 +45. But all that said, if you plan on rolling to the track or autocross on Pilot Sports, you should not worry about this. Only on full competition tires will this even begin to be a noticeable change worth worrying about. |
