Default The Unofficial "How to Lift your Impreza" Thread

Lifted this weekend. Used subtle solutions 2inch trailing arm spacer. Blox adjustable end links for the front sway bar and forester struts and springs. Did it by myself and took roughly 3 hours due to Florida heat. Time for some bigger tires and an alignment.

I had lifted my previous wagon with a more complex set up but this basic setup is just as good.

Default 05 Obs

Not sure how active this thread still is, but im SUPER interested in lifting my 05 OBS with forester struts. I don't have too much money, but from what I've understood, I can use almost all parts directly off foresters and outbacks. Luckily for me, my local scrapyard is filled with 03+ foresters and outbacks, so finding parts wouldn't be too hard. I just need to know what EXACTLY do I ABSOLUTELY NEED. (I also want to keep my swaybars) Here is a list of things I already know:

Forester struts
Forester trailing arm brackets
Forester / outback rear sway bar bracket (?)
Camber bolts (Rear only)

What else would I really need to avoid issues, or is this a solid no frills solution?

Why have I never seen a jacked up Impreza on the road? This is so cool.

I looked through most of this thread and didn't see a whole lot about 15+ wrxs. I was hoping to get a solution thats as high as possible with stock CV joints. Ideally a coilover that went 2" higher than stock for winter, and be able to drop back to stock or lower in the summer. I was considering a set of 2" spacers along with a coilover. I'm wondering if I can actually just get coilovers made for a forester and get everything with that.

Curious to know if anyone has has vibration issues after lifting? I have a 2007 wrx limited that I have lifted with, 2006 orester strut and springs, outback trialing arm bracket, outback rear sway bar bracket and adjustable front end links. I have what feels like a slight wobble in first gear when I accelerate and at highway speeds there’s a small vibration in the steering wheel.

I recently purchased forester struts and king springs for my 05 wrx. I also purchased the rear trailing arm spacers. Does anyone know if I will need the subframe spacers and steering extension?

Depends on what springs you're using. Are they Forester stock height? Forester lift? Impreza lift? I don't think subframe spacers are necessary with stock height Forester suspension. Anything higher than that and it might me a good idea. Your inner CV joints will thank you.

And don't ever use aftermarket axles on a lifted Subaru!!

Default Help Needed Converting 2012 Impreza to Crosstrek Height

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post here, but I'm a long-time Subaru driver. I started with a 90's Impreza, then a 2004 Impreza, then a family, then a 2009 Forester, then a 2017 Forester, and now a used 2012 Impreza Base Model for our 2nd car. All stick shift. Probably have over 300K miles driving Sub's.

The height of the Impreza is such that it bottoms out on a section of my driveway area that I sometimes use for overflow parking. I also have a long driveway that gets piled up with snow, so I'm concerned about bottoming out there too.

So I'd like to do a mild lift. Hoping the forum can set me straight on the best way.

I'm thinking the height of the Crosstrek should be fine...and I'll pair it with the larger Crosstrek tire size for a set of snows I need to buy soon.

Can someone help with the differences between Impreza and Crosstrek suspensions that I'd need to address?

Is it simply a strut swap?

Or are other parts swaps needed?

I'll look around for junked Crosstrek's for parts. This is Vermont...and Subaru is practically the state vehicle.

Thanks!

Default Help Needed Converting 2012 Impreza to Crosstrek Height

Looks like I can get a set of 4 used factory Crosstrek Strut + Spring assemblies locally for about $280. Does that sound reasonable?

Anyone have info about different Forester struts?

I've been checking this thread while planning a lift on my 04 Impreza Wagon and just now finished scrolling through ALL the pages and didn't see mention of different Forester struts. I see a lot of people using "04" and others using "08". I just checked and part numbers (KYB excel g) are different for the 04 and 08 MY's. Does anyone know if this is some minor difference, possibly even valving or is it actually a physical difference that would lead to different amounts of lift?

I found some 04 struts locally I'm thinking of picking up but I'd still need to find springs.

Default Alternative to Camber Bolts?

If I were to get the 2" spacers from Subtle Solutions for the trailing arms would I need to get the camber bolts? or would the spacers compensate for the shift?

The trailing arm spacers act to move the wheel backwards, they don't have anything to do with camber. Still gonna need the bolts

Looking to lift my 08 WRX hatch.
My daily and trail car for coyote hunting.
Wanting to go kyb Forester struts and King springs. Primitive says go with raised WRX springs instead... What do I need for rear tire centering. I've read multiple things... Thinking of just adf multi link or new rear trailing arms

Default 08 impreza outback sprot

Hey guys so I have an 08 impreza outback sport in great shape. now I'm not expert but from the looks of this forum I can lift this thing witch I need living were I live. (on top of a mountain in Vermont) it looks to me from what has been said here that I can pretty painlessly put 07 forester struts and spring in this to achieve 3 inches or so. I have the struts and springs used in good shape is there any thing I should really be watching out for with this modification. I will be having a shop do it as I am not skilled enough. any pointers would be great.

Default exhuast tuck?

Just finished about 5 months of work restoring a junked 98 legacy that I'd inherited. The car was basically worthless when I inherited it, with the dreaded oil separator plate spewing oil and causing quite a stink. Anyway, I restored the interior, banged out the dents, replaced body panels, replaced nearly every rubber component on the engine and transmission. I lifted it with 98 forester struts and a 30mm spacer, and lowered the drivetrain with the parts outlined in the original post.

When I was all done I went under to measure my new clearance expecting like a million inches. It is nice that i can crawl under the car without jackstands now. What I don't like is the exhaust is now the lowest part on the bottom of the car is the front catalytic converter at 7 inches. The exhaust looks like it's hanging way down because it got spaced down but the heat shielding didn't.

Question, has anybody attempted to "tuck" their exhaust for extra clearance? I thought maybe the easiest fix would be to fabricate a shorter hanger that's bolted to the transmission. I figured that would lift both catalytic converters and not add any leaks before the o2 sensors. Beyond that I would need to fabricate or buy some new exhaust headers. Perhaps this is all a bad idea, since bringing the exhaust heat closer to the tranny could cause some problems.

Hey all,

I'm looking to lift my 2009 impreza. I have found very very few threads with minimal information. Ideally I can probably use FXT struts to get a 3" or more lift, but i'm not sure what else I need to do, to have this be proper and safe. Can somebody please assist?

Thanks!

I'm looking to get a 1.5" or 2" spacer lift kit for my 09 OBS. I also currently have a 22mm whiteline rear sway bar. I was wondering if installing a spacer kit will interfere with the sway bar's endlink mounts or possibly any other suspension components? Or will it be just as simple as bolting the spacers on to the top hats? Sorry, I'm still learning about this suspension stuff.

Are you talking about wheel clearance or tire clearance? I have the same setup on my 04 Impreza with plenty of clearance between the wheel and the strut body and around 5-7mm of clearance between the tire and the strut body. I haven't experienced any rubbing or issues due to this. Granted, I haven't been running the setup long nor have I had the chance to offroad with it yet.

My much bigger problem is the rubbing in the front inside of the tire on the unibody at full lock. Which, I imagine you will have as well.

Yes the tire clearance at top is tight. But not as bad as I was shown how close they were at the tire shop I don't think they had the lift all the way down as I just went under my car and double check and it is closer to what to mentioned.

As far as the fronts yes I’m rubbing hella bad at full lock. But I knew that was going to happen with 27” tires. But if there’s a way to lessen or even better solving the issue all together I’m all ears.
