![]() Since 2009 when he was a test driver with Williams through today, the teams he has been on have had a combined total of 4 podiums during those 10 years - all by Perez. One was Perez getting lucky in Monaco with safety cars and Red Bull forgetting that they had to give Ricciardo some tires. Another was Perez in Russia moving up a couple spots after Kimi and Bottas smashed each other... and Perez got lucky on a early pit/safety car here I think as well. Perez only outscored Hulk in one season. Ricciardo will this year. Those are the only two years he's lost out to his teammate. He's mostly leaving F1 because he doesn't have that $$$$$$$$$$$ Basically, **** cars = **** results.

F1 never waned to make room for the Hulk. It works both ways. |

Ford is leaving GTLM, so Chip is adding one car to Indycar and moving some of the crew over there since they aren't needed for the FordGT anymore (RIP 4 teams between IMSA and WEC). |

Penske buys IMS & IRL. Looking to add other events including F1. https://www.motorsport.com/indycar/n...ouble/4593016/ Penske Entertainment, the new owner of Indianapolis Motor Speedway and IndyCar, will conduct business case studies for a more adventurous roster of events at IMS – including a possible IndyCar/NASCAR double-header, a 24-hour race or even Formula 1. It was announced this morning that the Penske Corporation’s new entity, Penske Entertainment, has purchased IMS, IndyCar and IMS Productions. Roger Penske has now revealed that his business team, and that currently run by Mark Miles as president of Hulman & Co., will work together over the next 60 days to increase the appeal of the sport and the track. Asked specifically about the possibility of an IndyCar/NASCAR double-header weekend, Penske responded: “Well, I think it was interesting to see [Josef] Newgarden run around what they call the Roval down in Charlotte several weeks ago, and I think it was pretty exciting. I think some of the fans had never seen an Indy car on an oval or a racetrack. “Tony [George, long time owner of Hulman & Co.] will give us some of his input and certainly Mark and the team, too. Are those things we can do? Can we execute those so we bring value here to the speedway? “Look, we've got to break some glass on some of these things, don't we? We've got to try some of this. I'm prepared to take a risk – no risk, no reward in many cases. Those are the things that Mark, with you and your team, that we'll take a look at. “I think we have to look at investments in lights or something else we can do here to make the Speedway and IRL a going entity that gives us the results that we expect. “What I intend to do tomorrow is walk the entire facility and strategically sit down with the existing team and get their top 10 [priorities] – I always like to work from a top 10 – and see things that we can do to make it fan-friendly, serve [the series] from a competitive perspective. “I’m planning to step down from being a strategist on the pitbox – you won’t see me there on raceday. I think I’ve got a bigger job to do now to see how we can build the series to the next level. It would be nice to bring another car manufacturer in – I know [IndyCar president] Jay Frye is working on that… “We look at the Speedway itself, the investment with the $100m that was put in a few years ago before the 100th [running of the Indy 500 in 2016], I think you've seen a tremendous change, and we want to add capability. What can we use this for? Can we run a 24-hour race here? Can we run a Formula 1 race here? What are the things we can do? This is a great asset.” |

If he had Perez $ he would still have a drive. 4 podiums out of 200+ races or however many it was says way more about the cars than the drivers. Especially when he consistently outpoints his teammate. Minus this year since Ricciardo is a very clearly superior driver. Hulk wasn't the only one to blow it at Germany this year, either. Hamilton, Bottas, Perez, Sainz, Leclerc all spun as well. |

![]() What’s the chance they held back whatever system they had that gave them an advantage, to surprise the teams on a track straight line speed matters more on so they don’t get even more pressure to remove the advantage. I mean my only guess is they were required to use x fuel / time and they were throttling and slowing the fuel to keep within requirements but pushed more on straights. To be honest idk how strict it was before the changes.

![]() Over on BAT, there is a 1999 Jordan F1 roller for sale. In the commentary, one of the readers reminisced about when this car was actually racing. It points out one of the primary reasons that F1 is in so much trouble today.
Here you go: @RussellJay - you are correct about the sound of an older F1 V10 or V12. My European wife got me started watching F1 on television. She grew up traveling about Europe going to F1 races with her father when she was a mere lass. She kept telling me that you could not appreciate the sound of one of these engines revving to 18/19K. I kept telling her that I knew what a loud engine was having cut my teeth building big block Chevrolet's back in the early 70's during my drag racing days. Also had seen with top fuel dragsters numerous times. If you have never seen one of those in action, I describe it as you can see the air move. Have to see it to believe it. Anyway, when F1 returned to the USA, we went to the first race at Indy. We were a little late and were across the street from the main gate when someone in the pits fired one off for a practice session. The pits aren't all that close to the main gate and there is a huge wall in front of you. I was standing there with tears running down my face and the hair on the back of my neck standing up. It was a seminal moment in my life! I had to agree with her that there is nothing in the world like this sound. We made an annual vacation out of Indy every year from then on. If you are into internal combustion engines, you have not lived until you one of these engines in action. I guess you will have to experience it with vintage F1 now. Since the advent of the turbo V6's, she doesn't even watch them on TV anymore. It's just not the same. |

![]() This is interesting.
Zandvoort getting an Indy type banking ( actually twice as steep)on the last corner. Hope Pirelli is doing its homework. https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/z...polis/4597579/ Zandvoort has revealed that the banking at its final corner will be akin to an American oval track, with it set to be twice as steep as turns at Indianapolis. As part of a revamp of the Dutch track ahead of its return to the Formula 1 calendar in 2020, the circuit is undergoing a revamp to bring it up to current grand prix standards. One of the changes will be to bank the final corner, and it has now been confirmed that it will be angled at 32 percent, which is the equivalent of 18 degrees. This compares to Indianapolis, which hosted the United States Grand Prix between 2000 and 2007, that has its banking at approximately nine degrees. But it is still short of some of some other famous banked corners, like the old Monza layout that was at 21 degrees and Daytona, which peaks at 31 degrees. Zandvoort CEO Robert van Overdijk told Dutch radio station BNR Niewsradio: "That corner will for sure be the most spectacular part of our renewed circuit. "The corner will be banked 32 percent. So the difference in height from the bottom of the corner to the top will be around four and a half metres. That's considerable. "We are in fact making an American corner on an otherwise European circuit. That is absolutely unique." The final corner will not be the only banked turn at Zandvoort, with the famous Hugenholtz corner also being tweaked so it can allow cars to follow each other side-by-side. "The third corner [Hugenholtz] of the track will be banked as well for the F1 race," added van Overdijk. "It will be made parabolic, so that two cars can get through the corner next to each other and more importantly at the same speed. The banking will vary between eight and 18 percent for that purpose." While the changes to the circuit will make the venue very different from how it was in the past, van Overdijk said that there were no concerns about being so bold with famous corners. "Of course Zandvoort has a big name historically," he said. "But if you want to keep the track exactly as it was, you really start from the idea that everything used to be better in the good old days. And of course that is not the truth. So I am not worried about that." |

![]() American racing mogul Roger Penske may be in negotiations to acquire the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport Formula 1 team, which would increase the size and reach of a powerhouse racing organization that already owns the IndyCar series and Indianapolis Motor Speedway itself.
https://www.motorauthority.com/news/...formula-1-team F1 Insider reported Friday that Penske is just one potential suitor for Daimler's works racing team, which the site said is for sale. The other is a member of Russia's Mazepin family, which made its fortune in the chemical business, and Nikita Mazepin is a Formula 2 driver for the ART team. The Mazepin family has been linked to other bids to purchase F1 teams. Per the report, Mercedes-Benz would make the move to get out of the daily operations of running the team. The company would remain in the constructor business and provide engines to other teams. The report indicated that Mercedes offered to supply Red Bull with its engines, a shift from the Honda engines it uses. Mercedes currently supplies engines to Racing Point, Williams, and its own works team. Mercedes-AMG Petronas is F1's dominant team and won this year its sixth consecutive title as constructor, and Lewis Hamilton, the team's lead driver, secured his fifth title in six seasons this year. If Penske's bid is successful, it potentially could be the first step toward bringing the flagship open-wheel series back to Indianapolis, which hosted the United States Grand Prix from 2000 to 2007. Penske Corporation purchased both IMS and the IndyCar series earlier in November. F1 has been in negotiations with several sites that wish to add a second race to the United States. Most recently, Hard Rock Stadium outside Miami inked a preliminary deal to add a road race to the F1 calendar as soon as 2021, but that proposal still has to gain the approval of Miami-Dade County before final preparations can begin. Adding a second U.S. F1 Grand Prix has proven challenging for all parties involved. Previous efforts focused on New York City and surrounding areas, but logistical and funding challenges were impossible to overcome. |
