![]() With the recent hike in keyless grabbers/extenders etc. How can we stop the entry and or theft for those of us with keyless entry.
Keeping the keys in a faraday cage will work at home but what about when opening the car with the button on the door handle and starting the vehicle, can they grab the code at that time?

![]() Just how recently did you watch Gone in 60 Seconds?
Maybe you'll get lucky and Angelina Jolie will actually be the car thief this time. Are you named Freb by chance? |

![]() COBB offers Anti-Theft maps with their Accessport that prevent the car from starting. Just program the ECU before you leave the car, need to reprogram it back to what ever map you were running before you can go again... It's pretty straight forward, just will take a little prep before leaving and going and need to ensure you're programming for the right car and such and remember to take the accessport programmer with you and don't lose it.

![]() You may want to look into the statistics on how many late model WRX's actually get stolen. The answer is not many. Stick shift is a huge theft deterrent by itself, seems very few thieves these days know how to drive one.
Don't lose sleep over this. |

![]() I agree with the others. It would be a different story if you were driving a '97-01 Integra Type R.
If you're overly concerned:
Can you tell that I've owned a lot of Hondas? ![]() There are a lot of good alarm system threads over in the Honda forums due to their high theft rate. While the keyless entry aspect doesn't apply there, the overall design of the alarm system still does (2-way pager w/ 1 mile range, battery backup, ignition/starter/fuel pump kill switch, piezo sirens, shock sensor, tilt sensor, hood pin sensor, gps tracker, etc.). Most modern systems have encryption & "code hopping" to prevent cloning. But honestly, an alarm system sticker & steering wheel lock will probably prevent most thieves. It won't be worth their effort & risk. Last edited by WRXnick16; 11-29-2019 at 12:07 PM. |

![]() I kinda understand what OP mean. Computer Engineer here. There was an article about a tech dude created a signal interfered device that can steal your key-less code. Basically, he put it in a parking structure and left it on. The way it works is, when you in range of your car and press the key button, this device will jam your car receiving component and receive the signal from your key instead, save it as a text file, then play it back so your can can pops the door without you being suspicious. The victim will only feel a slightly delay.
I won't worry too much about this since tech savvy usually into Tesla now. Unless that person is weird like me. |

![]() Man, people who steal cars and other personal property are some of the bottom of the bucket of scum of the earth. I put them hardly even one notch below (edit to clarify: as in, slightly less bad than) wife beaters/animal abusers/murderers.
A hidden kill switch will probably keep anything under $45-50k in value from disappearing in the vast majority of cases. If they want a $120k luxury car they'll do whatever they have to to take it. A WRX, they're probably not going to bother unless they can get in and drive it to a port or chop shop immediately with no hassle. The kill switch doesn't have to be hidden that well most likely, they don't want to be sitting there for 45 minutes looking for a switch. They'll run off pretty quick. I'm wagering that with each day that passes, the odds of my vehicle being stolen get less and less...Seems no one is teaching kids these days how to drive a stick. |

![]() the accessport flashing a map is genius! my car was stolen with the emanage ultimate inside, thieves left it, car was recovered, now i don't leave it parked any where with the emanage in it. factory ecu doesn't know what to do with big injectors!
My shop recently had a 18 or 19 outback brought in with theft damage to the shifter. It had been kicked to the side to bypass the interlock, no broken windows. |

Pedal lock-out bars do not work on the most determined thief, but will keep unprepared amateurs away. If you want to, put on on both the brake and clutch pedals. But then you have to mess with keys and storage. Steering wheel lock bars are easily defeated and it has been proven so. A fake blinking alarm LED may even deter would be thieves. Since the blinking LED is designed to indicate an alarm of some kind, the thief does not know if you do or do not have an alarm; unless they've followed you for several days/weeks. I vote for the secret ignition lock-out. No spark, no go. |
