Doesn't look like it will be any better than SS is.

Birds of Prey was not a good movie. It takes far too long to get rolling and the plot just sort of happens. Big fight at the end is dumb but entertaining enough.

As entertaining as Margot Robbie is as Harley Quinn, the character alone cannot carry a movie. It doesn't take long for her to just get annoying with her shtick giving me Tank Girl flashbacks (and I ****ing HATED that movie). And she doesn't really give off that hot-yet-psycho vibe which is half the character's appeal. She was 100% committed in the role though. The rest of the 'birds' were fine but Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a bit wasted. Ewan McGregor is the opposite of scary but at least Chris Messina is sufficiently creepy.

You've been warned.

I enjoyed BoP. It was a comic book movie that actually felt like a comic book. I would have changed things here and there, but it's a better film than Suicide Squad, which made me twitch during my first viewing.

Come to think of it, I've only seen SS once, and don't plan on watching it again. BoP will very likely get a second viewing by me, so there you go.

Counterpoint - you're wrong! Birds of Prey was a good movie. I gave it a solid B. Margot Robbie as Harley was a fun character to follow, and I've always been a fan. There could be a sequel, and I would watch it. She has some serious bad ass moves, and really gives off that Crazy AS F vibe through the whole movie. Hearing that Margot lived and breathed this movie for the last 4 years, from shipping it to producing, just made me that much more impressed. That girl has some serious talent.

They shortened the name to just Birds of Prey. It was, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

I thought that her dedication to the character and the project showed in her performance. I'd wager it was one of the things leading me to forgive imperfections a little more readily.

Also, anyone who didn't think the sequence at the police station was hilarious is dead inside.

I watched it over the weekend and I liked it (mostly).
I knew what I was in for and I wasn't disappointed. It was fun, colorful and didn't take itself too seriously - a live action comic book. They didn't use it as a platform for some social injustice trend or political statement.
Margot Robbie was great and her love for the character showed.
It wasn't a perfect movie, but most importantly, a very far cry from the vomit pail that was Suicide Squad. For the most part, I was able to even overcome Rosie Perez' voice.
Obi-Wan Kenobi's antagonist was way over the top, but that contributed to the overall comic book feel of the movie.
I wish there were more scenes with the hyena. I really thought it would come in play during the big battle.
As Dentt42 mentioned, the police station sequence was great.

That's effing hilarious. When I saw it, it had the long ass title (the fantabulous adventures, etc)

I saw it with my wife, it wasn't bad. Better than that piece of crap Suicide Squad IMHO. Margot Robbie was great in the movie, the rest of the cast were less interesting and I thought Winstead's performance as Huntress was just cringe-y and she's not a terrible actress so I blame it on bad writing and directing.

A lot of ppl got all bent out of shape that this was a feminist man-hating movie. Yeah I could see that in the film, but not being an insecure man-baby, I could care less about that tone as long as it entertained me, which it did, for the most part.

A lot of the visuals in BoP were straight from the comics, and well done.

The downplaying of HQ as a sexual object was deliberate. Didn't effect my enjoyment of the movie a whole lot. The action choreography was stellar at times, but never brutal.

I agree that the whole movie was comic bookish, and Harley is a playful character in the comics, sometimes flirty, but in a girlish way. I didn't get that it was a feminist, man hating movie. I got that is wasn't made to be subservient to what men want to see from a HQ movie. Margot was the principal producer of this movie, and I see a woman's touch in it. It is only a chick flick if you don't get that women are different when they are together with other women. They are doing things the way women do things, without significant others around to be distractions.

Kind of fun, Kind of campy, Lots of visual interest and quirky action. Harley gets all of the interesting lines and phrases. Ewen as Black Mask was a campy villain, and this movie is definitely from the DC Universe where Affleck was Batman and Leto was the Joker. That doesn't bother me, but then again, Adam West was still Batman on Prime Time TV when I was a kid, so a campy DC universe doesn't seem so out of place to me.

I hope Robbie makes a ton of money off of this.

Watched it last night with the wife.

Its Avengers for teen girls.

This movie is not intended for us at all, but I still had fun. Agreed with others that a stand-alone Harley movie would be too much. She needs a large cast to bounce off of. That said, Id love another. Hopefully COVID doesnt **** that up.

Edit: Was it just me, the weed or did the minimal blood in the movie look, I dunno, glittery?

They did make another Harley Quinn movie more geared toward her.

It did okay at the box office and the it scored 78% on RT. I haven't seen it but the guy at work that I discuss all thing movie related with said it wasn't that good.

Just watched BoP and it's enjoyable, definitely very DC. I didn't know it was R though, which is kind of a bummer. While not a really hard R, for the younger girls that became big Harley fans from SS it's pretty inappropriate.

I hope they don't do another one about her, she's always been a buddy buddy character, not one to really stand on her own. Considering it basically bombed at the box office (200M for a comic movie is horrible) that may be the case.

Huntress was kinda dumb, she shouldn't have been any comic relief. Her character in Arrow was well done (and 100 times hotter).

What really boggles my mind is how Harley has *still* not worn her traditional red/black outfit. What the hell.

It is amusing that HQ got a movie before Bats or Puddin, though.

Been catching up on series I have been putting off during the shutdown, and finally watched Altered Carbon.

Thought Rick Flag character and acting was brutal in Suicide Squad. Was pleasantly surprised how Joel Kanniman was much better in Altered Carbon as Kovach.

Started season 2 of Altered Carbon and now having a hard time with Falcon playing Kovach.
