I don't mean driving up a snowy path. I mean in the situation where you are stopped on a very steep hill, on slippery snow, and then you have to then drive forward, which could require holding extra clutch. With HH, it, well, holds you in place and allows for a more casual take off. This is not a normal occurrence, but where I used to live it was helpful in winter.

However, in the snow on a steep incline, HH def helps to save your clutch.
This was my experience using HH in my 08 Forester XT. I was never annoyed by it, but I can see how some might be. I wouldn't have minded it in my BRZ.

is it too soon to start talking **** about the looks yet?

the bumper looks actually quite amazing.

that's where the party ends.

whatever teams designed the front and rear fenders did so without consulting each other, and probably the only direction they had from the lead was "hey, just make them look cool", and then they were sent off to design in isolation.

indeed, the front fenders, on their own, look great. the rear fenders, on their own, look great, but taken together, they don't look good together. there is no cohesion that ties front to rear.

the headlight team must have been made up of people who were former Porsche employees, I like the angry eyes that are currently on my car, these headlights look vaguely reminiscent of a set of panamera lights that were left in the drier too long. the taillights are the best part of the rear, but even those are get a resounding meh from me.

18" wheels is a step in the wrong direction from a drivability, not getting flats in potholes, and rotating mass standpoint, but I guess a step in the right direction if you like that sort of thing.

overall the whole thing just doesn't look right.

anyway, glad I didn't wait to get one, sure a few more HP would be nice, and I might have noticed the extra rigidity, but then I'd have to look at it to know I'm getting in the right car at the grocery store, and that would depress me to be reminded at the start of every drive just how ugly it is.

Not sure about the older models, but 15+ if you engage the clutch while depressing the brake on an incline HH will engage, if you let go of the brake before engaging the clutch, voila no HH.

I'm getting to the point where I want to install a switch bank somewhere in my car where I can just flip a switch to disable safety systems one by one and bypass the OEM system like I did in my 2002 Explorer which had "auto AWD" in lieu of traction control. I installed a switch which disabled the system, sure it put up a dash light, but then I could do burnouts on demand.

HH? flip a switch
TC? flip a switch
VSC? flip a switch

I don't know how people can enjoy driving these new Subaru's with all this safety ****. Mine is a 2017 but I guess because its a manual base model it doesn't have anything these loaners the dealer gives out do (Crosstrek, Forester, Ascent). Every time I get in one I have to turn like 5 "safety" things off just to drive normal. Lane change, steering wheel correcting, speed reduction a 1/4 mile away from the car in front of me, 5 mph increments for cruise control

The worst is when someone is slowing down going in a turn lane and I'm continuing in the lane they turned from, the damn thing slams on the brakes and sounds like a nuclear plant meltdown with all the alarms going off.

Rant over. I cant wait to my car back....

looks are subjective.

Personally, I love the look of this. So much so that I'm trying to figure out a way to shoehorn this into my stable, permanently.

Has anybody had experience boosting the previous Gen? Not really something I want to get into. Not really looking for a garage project car with reliability and tuning headaches. A drop in compression would pretty much be a necessity. But dang part of me is real tempted.
Hard to imagine this thing has significantly less torque than my 2004 WRX had stock, lol.
Bolt-ons and tune are pointless on n/a, which would mean turbo kit.

I follow a guy on Youtube and we happen to both be in the Subaru BRZ FB group and he just recently turbo'd his BRZ. He did a nice breakdown video of the costs and has done a few driving videos too. Overall I think his videos are worth a view if you're interested in the specific topics he brings up. I mostly follow him because he's in the process of swapping an SVX EG33 with a turbo into a VA STI, and I think it's gonna be nuts.

When I had my BRZ I had zero desire to turbo it because I just didn't want the added cost, complexity and weight. I'm still overall iffy on Subaru engines with turbos. But I did look a lot into bolt-ons and a tune and felt those would be adequate for the BRZ. The 2022 BRZ pretty much addresses those issues. If you include bolt-ons, I don't see why the new BRZ won't make almost 250 HP.

That just means you're following too closely, which has happened to be a few times. Like you said, the person in front suddenly turns, but they're hella slow, and I'm continuing moving forward. Nowadays I just give them more space, either directly behind them or moving more to the left.

Most of the time I drive without the nannies off, but sometimes I'm just doing a quick Point A to Point B and I don't bother sitting there and turning everything off. Thankfully the Lane Departure warning stays off once you turn it off. Overall I don't mind the nannies, and the reason I got EyeSight was more of a peace of mind for whenever someone else drove my car since I do have a habit of letting people borrow my cars just because I'm that kinda guy.

Says a lot about your driving.....

And you can have a "normal" cruise control if the ACC is not your thing(can't imagine why). Just hold down either following distance button after turning it on. The 5mph thing can't be changed(dunno why you would want to); but, just hold it down for 1mph increments(I'm sure you already discovered this).

I know my complaints are somewhat petty and not of the popular opinion. I did not buy a car with those features but I'm lucky to be able to have a loaner when needed. All in all I'm glad those safetys are there as it makes everyone else on the road safer.

Yes I drive more aggressive then your average driver but when I drive I'm not doing anything else. I hardly even listen to music anymore. I drive with a purpose and I'm focused on the road, hence the reason I dont need all the nanny's. Before I get blasted, I'll say that I am safe. I dont drive like a jackass weaving in and out of traffic or speed excessively. I've been in 2 accidents (in my teens and not my fault) and only a few tickets (mostly in my teens and 20's).

I go 9mph over the limit on the hwy which is why I like the 1 mph increments. I worked in law enforcement for 5 yrs and there was a popular saying, 9 you're fine..10 you're mine (referencing mph). I guess this has always stuck with me. Speeding fines typically increase in 5 and 10 mph increments and can change a $100 ticket into $300.

I know holding down does it but if you hold it too short you go up/down 5. In my car I see I'm doing 47 and hit cruise, I know I bump it 2 times and I'm doing 49. Again, I know this is petty and I'm of the unpopular side of this. I'm not really trying to make a big deal about, I just ended up on a small rant.

Zak - My 2020 Forester has those features you mentioned, and for me, the car is an A to B vehicle. I don't have to enjoy it, just needs to be comfy and have normal conversations with my wife to and from the destination. It's more a passive experience.

Since taking ownership in April, I washed the car twice through my local gas station car wash.
That's the level of meaning the car has to me. It's just an appliance no different from my washing machine.
Just needs to be convenient and reliable.

The same as I used to drive them decades ago. I don't find any of it intrusive and you can turn off stuff like lane keep assist. Heads up display IMO is a game changer as you never have to look away from the road. It's like complaining in the 80's that power windows and air conditioning somehow takes away from driving enjoyment.

I didn't mean to insult anyone, sorry if I did. If you like them then thats fine, to each their own. I dont prefer them and thats why they can be turned off.

I guess my post yesterday came on a little strong. I just found out my car wont be done for another couple days to a week, it was supposed to be done 3 weeks ago. The dealer lost a hose and has to order a new one now. This coupled with the aggravated drive home (in the loaner) caused a more "aggressive" post.

Nah you good. We understand. We're just making sure you know that there is some amount of freedom within the safety system. With summer tires, I turn off Traction Control because I prefer a bit more rotation without so much interference. I did the same in my BRZ. I enjoy safety features, but I definitely want them to be defeatable.

Except your description wasn't even remotely close to how it works in reality. I find the Subaru EyeSight is very precise, compared to other makes. I also have a Hyundai, and while it too, works much better than you described, it is not as good as Subaru's.

Makes me wonder how much you even drove with EyeSight and maybe just assuming or influenced by other fake internet anecdotes.

I cant speak as to how it works in a Hyundai to compare. I can tell you my scenarios are accurate to my situations/driving style. I'm sure others will have different results based on driving conditions and styles.

I have been in a loaner for 3 months. The dealer has swapped me in/out of different loaners in that time frame. All have had eyesight. Your assumptions are just that...assumptions. Just because you haven't experienced what I have doesn't make it any less of a fact.

I thought I was allowed my own opinion.

Well, when you say speed reduction a 1/4 mile away, I know you are being fictitious. And did you know that you can vary your distance on ACC to be very close to the car in front, right on the steering wheel? At it's closest setting, another car would have a hard time squeezing in ahead of you in bumper to bumper traffic. And there is also a setting for how aggressive you want it to perform (acceleration and braking), to suit your driving style.

It works very, very well, and I use it all the time in heavy traffic. Takes a lot of stress away during stop and go freeway traffic. Just let the car do its thing, and relax.

Why are you posting in a thread dedicated to an enthusiast car..or for that matter in an enthusiast forum at all? If a car is just an A to B device for you, then this car dies not make sense for you at all.

You're right, I did exaggerate on that. You got me there and I will even admit that on a road where you cant pass it does work quite well and I even use it. I live in a smaller town where we dont have much stop and go traffic so it's more of an annoyance. But that goes back to what I was saying about styles/situations.

For me I wish it was something you turned on versus having to turn off. But thats just my opinion. One person's opinion shouldn't change the market and I wouldn't want it to. If its better for most people then I'm fine with it. Like I said before..at least I can turn them off

ACC is not on by default. You have to turn it on with your steering wheel control. You may be confusing it with LKA or FCA which needs to be turned off if you don't want it. These are emergency safety features which only come into play if don't stay in your lane (without signalling) or are about to collide into the car in front of you.

I'm not sure what those acronyms stand for. When I said it was something I would rather be turned on, I meant that I rather turn on the distance keeping part of CC then it automatically be on. You can't turn it off unless you disable CC.

LKA has to be turned on.....unless it was turned on for you before you got the car. FCA defaults to on.......critical safety function. Just like VDC. Always defaults to on. LKA is whatever it was when you shut off the car last.

And to repeat myself, the ACC(adaptive cruise) can be disabled. Just needs to be done each time cruise is turned on. The 5mph quick push increments are permanent tho...

Like I said before......when you turn on cruise, then touch and hold either following distance button for about 3 seconds. It changes it to a "normal" cruise control to where if you are approaching a slower car, you'll have to adjust instead of EyeSight doing it for you. Not sure why anyone would prefer that; but, to each their own.
