Default This Toyota electric SUV is ready to debut on April 19 at Shanghai Auto Show

Quote:
Japanese automobile giant Toyota is gearing up to unveil its new electric SUV at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show on April 19. Ahead of that, the auto brand has teased the zero-emission SUV online. The SUV is likely to be a part of Toyota's "Beyond Zero" sub-brand meant for all things electric.

As the electric SUV has shown off its face, there is a blue brand logo signaling that it's a zero emission model. The SUV has been reportedly developed jointly by Toyota and Subaru and it is based on a dedicated platform e-TNGA for electric vehicles. The electric SUV will have Subaru version as well, which is likely to be christened as Evoltis.

Being an electric vehicle, the upcoming Toyota SUV doesn't get a conventional front grille, as there is no conventional internal combustion engine under the hood of this car. There is a lower grille though, which could serve the purpose of cooling.

The sleek headlamps come with all-LED appearance and integrated to them are LED daytime running lights. Overall, the midsize SUV gets a sharp contoured front profile and the similar sharpness in design is expected to be carried across the other parts of the exterior as well. Toyota previously referred to this design theme as very European in the DNA and design.

This upcoming electric SUV is expected to receive a host of premium features inside the cabin. The automaker is yet to reveal anything about the performance and specification, but expect impressive numbers from it. The e-TNGA platform is capable of accommodating front, rear, and all-wheel-drive configurations as well as an array of electric motors and battery packs, ranging from 50 kWh to 100 kWh.

The production model of this midsize zero-emission model to hit the showrooms sometime by 2023. This is going to be the first of six bespoke Toyota battery electric vehicles that will be launched by 2030, which all will be developed in collaboration with Suzuki/Daihatsu, as part of these brands' global agreement.

Subaru has been heavy on the lazy side for a good while now. After the 86, I can see Subaru just replacing emblems and calling it a day......

Toyota bZ4X BEV concept includes new AWD system packaged in a sleek SUV design
Solidifies Toyota’s global commitment towards carbon neutrality by 2050
Electrified product portfolio to expand to around 70 models globally by 2025; including 15 new battery electric vehicles, of which, seven will be Toyota bZ models
Toyota plans on bringing electrification to its truck lineup, including hybrid and BEV powertrains
PLANO, Texas (April 18, 2021) – Toyota envisions a future in which carbon neutrality is achieved through the practical marketization of a portfolio of products with advanced, alternative-fuel and zero-emission powertrain technologies. Already a leader in electrification, the company took a major step forward today with the introduction of the Toyota bZ4X Concept, a vision for the first of a global series of battery-electric vehicles to be introduced under the “Toyota bZ” brand umbrella.

The Toyota bZ4X Concept joins a full lineup of electrified vehicles – a lineup that, in total, accounts for more than 40% of all alternative powertrain vehicles sold in the U.S. These alternative powertrains include battery electric, hydrogen fuel cell electrics, hybrids and plug-in hybrids.

Toyota plans to expand to around 70 electrified models globally by 2025. This future lineup will feature 15 dedicated BEVs, including seven carrying the bZ (Beyond Zero) brand moniker. In addition, Toyota intends to bring electrification to its pickup truck lineup in the near future, including hybrid and BEV powertrains. This diverse portfolio of electrified products will help propel Toyota toward its goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.

“The Toyota bZ4X concept points to yet another option in our already robust electrified portfolio” said Bob Carter, TMNA executive vice president of sales. “At Toyota, we are a human-centered company – the customer is our CEO and will ultimately decide which technologies will carry us toward a carbon neutral future. With investments and product offerings across the spectrum of electrification, we intend to be there with products and technologies that meet the diverse needs of customers around the world.”

Jointly developed with Subaru, the Toyota bZ4X SUV Concept is built on the new e-TNGA BEV- dedicated platform. The concept conveys Toyota’s legendary quality, durability and long-term reliability (QDR) in combination with Subaru’s AWD capabilities to achieve a driving experience that is both comfortable and engaging.

The Toyota bZ4X SUV concept features a long wheelbase with short overhangs, resulting in a distinctive design with ample interior space. The open-concept interior is designed to enhance driver comfort and confidence on the road. With every detail purposefully engineered, the low position of the instrument panel and the location of the meters above the steering wheel not only help expand the vehicle’s sense of space, but also help increase visibility to aid in safe and secure driving.

Toyota plans to produce the Toyota bZ4X in Japan and China; it hopes to begin worldwide sales of the model by the middle of 2022. U.S. product details will be shared at a later date.

some sites show it with a yoke as the steering wheel, unlike this one that shows a normal looking wheel

Why do Automakers insist on making CUV's with a sloping rear window? Seriously where is the utility cargo advantage over a Sedan, other than hatch. Such a waste of space and I suppose it is probably all about appeal and not function.

^considering that this is an EV, it's probably in aero efficiency.

Don't think it will take much work to slap on the Subaru badge and make it fit in with the rest of the lineup.

Out of what? The discussion is design and fitting in Subaru scheme. Japan gets the Levorg and will likely get this joint EV first as well.

We don’t matter.

The 2nd pic, how could anyone get pumped up about spending tens of thousands of dollars on that? I think driving and more importantly, the buying of vehicles, have been reduced to gizmos and modcons on the interior. "Ooooh look my car will let me know when I have a Fakebook update!"

Not true. They need a commanding view of the road for their gizmos and slide in comfortably. All other things can go piss in a bucket because bottom lines and margins have become an online preoccupation for brand sycophants.

I am sure it provides more cargo space than than the giant sloped Toyota EV CUV as well. Seems like a no brainer to choose the Levorg from an enthusiast mindset.
