Odd that the S4 gets the same power/torque as the US WRX. I was hoping to get an idea of what the FA24 was capable of when not held back by the US WRX’s homely 6-speed. VA S4 had 296/295 hp/tq from 2.0 liters with NON performance CVT () here it’s way down on power from an extra 400cc.

Looks 30% more ridiculous with all the skirts, for a grand total of 120% too ridiculous.

It has a lot of elements of a good looking car, but it’s just not there. So from a distance it looks ok but upon closer inspection it’s not good looking.

It gets worse every time I see it. Barf. Plastic. And more black plastic. In really stupid-looking shapes and protrusions. It's a joke. A bad joke.

Let's hope the STI can be saved and they don't double-down on the stupid.

Honestly, if the car had performance that made us happy, the way this car looks would be fine. But it’s that performance that makes it a joke for me.

Also, I wonder which of those S4 features will make it to the US spec. The face recognition thing, the fully digital gauge cluster, and that collision warning thing that reflects off of the windshield. At least better be in the STI, otherwise once again a fkn joke.

That’s absolutely terrible. The back is pinched off like the car was **** out of the factory.

This was the shocking part. How do you gain displacement and lose power?

Really? Hoping with Subaru? I give it 1 in 10 that the STi is the real deal. Ingenuity, pushing the edge, new technology, none of which are associated with Subaru. Especially the power and driver trains.

Damn. Get rid of the plastic fenders and rear end abomination (including the stupid horizontal black line between the taillights), and you actually have a good looking car.

Agreed, sadly this car is quirky enough for the JDM crowd. I still think it looks like ***p. Bring on the Corolla GR.

I wouldn't get my hopes up on either design changes or motor changes.

the design changes won't come until the refresh. they need to focus their resources on two things really. one, fix the rear bumper, two add a hatchback or wagon to the refresh. I would say work on an actual 8-speed automatic but we don't know the changes they made to the sport transmission yet. one thing they can do for the MY23 wrx is add a manual transmission to the wrx gt trim.

I've been lurking in some Civic Type R forums, and the CTR owners are freaking out about the new Civic being too boring. They actually think the current Civic Type R looks good.

Default 2022 Subaru WRX Official Announcement

Sad, but I have really come to the realization that I will never own a STi again. This WRX is terrible (rear bumper and all that crap plastic cladding) and the dash design is even worse. Subaru just can't get "all the way there". I was not about to hold my breath for the STi version. Oh well.

I went ahead and bought a 2021 Supra.

I think the GT trim will get these features. The XT trims on the Outback and Legacy already this.

I saw the Levorg gets the driver modes based on facial recognition, but the Legacy face recognition only does seats and radio.

A Supra is on your radar and you were holding out for ANYTHING that Subaru had to offer…? That’s an interesting cross shop.

The Outback and Legacy XT have fully digital gauge cluster? I don’t think so man…also they have that collision thing that illuminates on the windshield?? I think that’s new to the WRX?

Marketing is trying pretty hard… “WRX S4 STI Sport R”. What are they going to call the STI then?

Looks too low, definitely needs more ground clearance.

The STI will just be "STI".

What's odd is that they're not using "tS", "tuned by STI". That's supposed to be for everything that gets the STI treatment, without being an actual STI.
