There's no replacement for displacement, right? Sorry, but no. The trend of smaller capacity turbocharged engines has given us some pretty spectacular powertrains over the last decade, with few as impressive as the G16E-GTS in the Toyota GR Yaris. It's also highly tunable, as it turns out. DTE Systems already has a kit that takes it beyond 300 horsepower.
Unless you've been living under a rock, the Yaris GR has been one of the most impressive cars to come along over the last year. It's right up there with the all-new Porsche 911 GT3, Corvette Z06, and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing.
As standard, it's equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that produces 268 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. And as we've recently learned, it can be tuned to deliver nearly 500 hp using stock internals. Say hello to the engine that could take over from the 2JZ as the most modifiable Toyota engine ever.

Yeah at first I was like, "I have to have it in Heavy Metal", but now, honestly, I'll take that, white or Supersonic red as well. For some reason I thought the Circuit Edition also came in black, but it doesn't. My only aversion to red is that my current Impreza Sport hatchback is red, but oh well.

Look, man. I'll just be happy to have one if at all possible. Right now these dealers are running around trying to figure out how to maintain a waiting list, deposits, and notification for open orders. It's gonna be hell for a year plus.

The Circuit Edition seems to be "the one to get" - as it should be. Not sold on the "forged carbon" look of the roof or the gloss black stuff. If the Core trim can get everything else from the Circuit Edition minus the carbon roof skin, leather seating, special shift knob and gloss black exterior bits - could live with that.

I'm pretty sure this was the same guy who got his first account banned for asshattery in general com, came back on a second account and started stalking me, got banned again when we figured out who he was, and this is at least his third account.

That was almost a decade ago. Only reason I recognize him is his bizarre, irrational defense of the STi which was the same nonsense he was spewing back then and he's staying true to his brand here.

I'd imagine that would be the route I go. Not hard to add a hood/spoiler as long as it has the performance and cold weather packages. The tech pack seems pretty meh.

They are only going to make 1500 CEís, and 5100 Cores so anyone with delusions about that CE should end them now. Some of these guys have had deposits in for 6 months. There is a deposit thread on the forum, and over 50% indicate they want a CE. With 1500 units, best of luck. Going to be a lot of disappointed folks. Just getting a regular one will be a feat. Toyota more or less said there will be more special editions. We know whatís coming for 2023, we donít know what limited trim will be available for 2024 but it will be something.

Right now they are using all this to their own benefit regarding pricing. Do a PR, get the hype train full speed so they can figure how much they can charge. I donít know the pricing will be but I bet that CE is expensive. If anything to curb demand. Everyone thinks they are getting one.

This isn't Burger King where you can have it your way man. Wings will be made by someone. You'll probably be able to buy the CE wing from Toyota for rape pricing. If not, aftermarket will solve it. Do you have issues modifying your car or something? Geez. I've had my money in for almost a month and technically should be able to acquire a CE but I know also it just may not happen and guess what? I'll just deal with it. Get a loaded up core, or I can always wait for the other special editions they are told us they are going to make.

Reaks of entitlement. You've got an entitlement issue here and think everything should be easy/simple for you. Sorry, the world just doesn't work that way.

You are so far up Subaru's butt, you fail to grasp some important details as it pertains to this car. One, information has been out there for quite a while if you could be bothered to invest the time. You were just so far up Boobaru's ass you couldn't see the light. Perhaps take it as a learning lesson to quit sniffing the crotch of any automobile mfr. They are not your friends, your family, they are a corporation whose only purpose is to make money. That company no longer cares about enthusiasts. And they haven't given two shats about their hatch folk in 8 years. The writing has been very visible on that wall as well. You were just got damn fan boi blind.

Motomachi is where this car will be produced. Same factory as the GR Yaris. There is a 2 year waiting list for the GR Yaris right now in Europe. Motomachi can only produce so many cars as there is way more human assembling than say a Camry. We will be lucky to get 6000 GRC's per year delivered. And given we are still in a chip shortage with supply constraints, and most automobile mfr's have switched models to supply. Basically they are going to throttle production on purpose to keep their dealers numbers up. Then you have the STI cancelled, and now VAG has publicly stated this is the last Golf R. ICE 6MT are going away and the writing has been on the wall for years. None of this situation should be shocking or surprising at all.

Well that's you man. You aren't everybody. Unique is something sorely missed by many. Just because you like McSame, doesn't mean others have to like it. Lord knows this country in general could use more unique. Everything is literally getting mainstreamed to death. I'd call it mainlining it's so bad. You are just whining things aren't your way like a baby throwing all their toys outta their crib

That's your problem, your feelings. I want things the way I want them and when they aren't I'm gonna cry about it. Throwing down cash? I cannot speak for others, but I have done something, and I don't know if you have ever heard of it, called SAVING MONEY. Once anything I want to purchase goes above a few hundred bucks I PLAN for the purchase in advance and put money away for it. You didn't plan for this, you didn't put money away, you didn't keep up with all the information available to you and you're upset? You're being a Randy at this point. I've been building my current fleet for 12 years now. Had to really give up a lot too, made a lot of personal sacrifices for it. But it was worth it.

Vacations, is this the thread for that? More entitlement. I go on vacation 1-2 times per year and have done so all through the pandemic. The only thing I've paid more money for than usual is a rental car. But I go to the same place every time I vacation, and I have people there. So it hasn't been a big deal. I had planned trips and due to Covid I had to put them off to a later time due to restrictions. Then later had to get the thing jammed up my nose to pre-qualify to even go. Then in February when I went I had to go online and show my papers. Just more hoops to jump through. It really sounds like you have never had to deal with anything hardcore in your life. I've listened and read of this whining for years now at this point. I tell my people to quit whining. You got a job? Got income coming in? Roof over your head? Gas in the vehicle(s)? Got food in the fridge? And most importantly, are your people healthy and alive? Then quit f'ing complaining Randy and Karen, shut your mouth. Some of us have had to deal with death during this time. Watch our loved ones going on a ventilator, can't see them, tell them you love them, say goodbye, then they die. Then have to deal with all that, all through this. Speaking first at the Eulogy was certainly nothing I ever wanted to have to do, but it's life. It's never going to go just the way you want it. It's going to punch, and you have to counter punch. Or just take the hit as best as you can, and move on, because you have no choice other than to move on.

Housing, yeah I'll give you that one. My house has rocketed in price and I'm in one of the fastest appreciating zip codes there is here. I'm getting that new tax bill every year and it's painful. Pretty soon, my tax bill will be higher than my mortgage, and at that point I'm leaving, moving, out of state. Even homeowners insurance went up a full $1k this year due to the freeze last year. I don't like it, but there is nothing I can do about it but counter punch. My area, Californians have all moved here, traffic is a literal nightmare and housing is all F'd up. These colonizers have ruined my city, my state, but nothing I can do but move on at some point. I do feel a mass amount of empathy for that younger couple trying to attain their first house/mortgage. I've got people at work that I care about that just gave up. The choice was either to overpay and radically adjust their lifestyle because that mortgage payment would own them, or move over an hour away from the job, and that's an hour non-rush hour. They said F it, and continue to lease an apt.

More entitlement on full display. Buck up Buttercup. Everyone is in the same mess. Control what you can control. The things you cannot, LET GO.
Not going to address most of the name calling. I really don't care. It was a rant brought about by pre-workout.

However, I'm not going to take it back. As a consumer with cash-in-hand (Because I AM a money saver, and investor), it still sucks not to be able to buy a product that's available. Right or wrong. All I was saying is I wish car manufacturers would be able, or willing, to meet the demand of consumers. There were plenty of STI Launch Editions to go around.

No hardships here? Ooof. That's a big assumption, bro. Entitlement? My first memories were in poverty. Luckily by my teens my family was able to work their way up to the very bottom of middle class. I worked in a factory full time to put myself through the college industry, while dodging political indoctrination.

I shouldn't have felt the need to defend myself, but whatever, and no idea why I bothered with it. Oddly enough, I respect most of your opinions, but not necessarily the way you convey them. You don't know me. I don't pretend to know you. You make a lot of good points.

Liberals invading your area and invading your culture? Sounds like Texas or Nashville. They flee California, but they still bring the mentality that destroyed the state with them. Luckily, none of the radicals want to live in Illinois, or at least near St. Louis... No one from California, or anywhere else, wants to live here...

I agree. Subaru doesn't care about enthusiasts anymore. I still enjoy my VA STI, knowing damned well it doesn't keep up with other cars. I don't care about 'the best.' I care about what I enjoy the best.

The rumors of 400 hp STI were laughable. I was criticized by the deniers when I said it would never happen. I was never sold on it, but I was at least looking forward to a car I believed could possibly go head-head with the Golf R. I really wanted not to buy another Subaru, but my wife and I sat in everything at the auto show. We like the simplicity of Subaru's interior. When we sat in the Forester, we loved it. Second to that, was the Rav 4. We drove the Rav 4 and hated the way it drove. We like the way the Forester drove. There's still nothing wrong with enjoying Subaru product and preferring it.

The aftermarket? Not interested. I enjoy keeping cars in their true form. It's just what I like, as I get older. No criticism for those who do the aftermarket, but it's not my bag.

Just for conversation purposes, the vacation thing was partially based on having no idea where people are pulling this money out of their asses. The majority of Americans are not savers who live below their means, like you and I. I suspect it's do to increasing debt, and people just not caring about it anymore. Many college graduates are relying on the falsehood of their student loans being forgiven, that hypothetically the savers will have to pay for. I enjoy traveling to different places. But, the $2000 condos in Pensacola FL we used to stay for are now going for over $3,000. On top of that, the gas prices for the ten hour drives has gone up. Food and commodities have gone up. The extra costs in total will nearly double over a week. We have cut back by choice. Other people have increased spending, despite no one getting raises and the value of a dollar continuing to decrease.

2019 was a golden year we will never see again in our lifetime.

Everyone complaining that Subaru stopped making performance hatches and wagons nearly a decade ago, nevermind with manual, better be buying. Those without car seats of course.

I'm going to be curious how heavy it feels to drive. At 3250 pounds, it could go either way depending how well the chassis is tuned.

Default Toyota GR Corolla: Automatic Transmission Set For 2024 Release Date

Now that I've had the weekend to digest the GR Corolla specs, I gotta say that they came out and delivered something I never expected. I used to be huge into Imprezas (especially GC and GD generations), but each gen got a little further away from the rally homologation cars that I fell in love with. A lot of that spark is here with the GR Corolla and I honestly didn't think it was possible for Toyota to deliver it.

Powertrain: When it was first rumored the 1.6T from the GR Yaris, I have to say I was a little disappointed. All the other FWD hot hatches were 2L 4cyls, so it feels small. Seeing the way it delivers power in the Yaris, what the aftermarket has done with it, and the bump to bring power out to a round 300, they've exceeded my expectations. It feels like it will be a special engine that we'll talk about in 20 years time. The GR-Four lettering on the intercooler is a very nice motorsports touch.

Drivetrain: Again, early on, I was thinking FWD because of the G16. Then rumors of AWD. Well, surely we won't get the LSDs as a option. Wrong! Again, expectations exceeded.

Suspension/Braking: Figuring it would be a GTI competitor, I was hopeful for at least some sort of BBK. We ended up with 2 piece rotors and BBK. And replacing the electric parking brake with a handbrake!? Very nice. I would have liked the option for some sort of adjustable suspension. The roads are so bad around here that I'm constantly darting around potholes in my Corolla HB already. It'll be worse in the GR.

Body: I love the way my hatchback looks, so I figured that it would be a direct port from the current body. Wide body, carbon roof, aluminum doors, power bulge hood. MIND BLOWN. Just can't believe they went this far and it looks so good. I love almost everything about the looks of the CE. The wide body, wing, and vented hood scream late 90s/early 00s World Rally Car to me. It's kinda ugly and brash but in a purposeful way. I love/hate that it is built in a completely different factory than the standard Corolla. Love the extra welds and adhesivesÖ hate that the separate line will limit volume. I can't wait to see it in person. The only downside, visually, is the triple exhaust.

Interior: The racing seats from the GR Yaris are all I really wanted and they delivered. Expectations met. Slightly disappointed that the spare is lost and the cargo floor stayed high like my spare equipped HB, but I understand that the rear diff would maybe not allow for the spare.

Sound: Can't really comment yet.

Weight: I thought there was a chance that ~3200lbs could happen if the stars aligned (AWD adds about 200lbs to other Toyotas, Corolla was 3050lbs, 3 cyl turbo wouldnít be a ton heavier than the 4 cyl). 3250lbs with everything they added. Shocked.

What strikes me as really amusing is how the basic spec of the car was hiding in plain sight on the GR Hot Hatch landing page. The pictures were of the brakes, engine/AWD, seats, and 3 pedals. Those were all carryover from the GR Yaris, so most just assumed that the pictures were reference to the GR Yaris shown at the top. Until the teasers started showing up with GR Four, my thinking was that the G16 pretty much ensured that this was a GTI competitor... not a WRX/STI competitor. Overall, I'm just super excited that Toyota managed to take something I was expecting to like - but not love (a G16 Corolla hatch) - and released something that I feel a strong connection. It feels like a love letter to my 23 years of rally fandom and the cars that rally put on the road. This car feels like an extension of that passion. I love it.

Now I wait for pricing and availability. This is the car I want next. White Circuit Edition.

I'm willing to bet A ~5'6" passenger can have a rear facing car seat behind them and a 5'10" driver can have a 7yo in a forward facing full-back booster w/harness behind them.

It worked/works in my wifes 2017 iM hatch, and it worked/works in the current gen corolla hatch; the GR doesn't appear to give up any interior passenger space.

Do you guys think itll MSRP for around the same as say an Audi S3? It would be sort of weird to see one more than a WRX GT

I looked at an XSE Apex (?!) Corolla sedan at a dealer on Friday. Best I can tell from internet, interiors are close to same except rear dimensions. Hatch seems to have better headroom, which is good as it's tight in the sedan. Leg room is less - makes sense. Definitely the only trouble anyone might have with GRC would be rear facing seats. It would be doable though.

I'm not a fan of the interior. At first I thought it was economy car factor but it's actually the layout. I couldn't put my finger on what it was reminding me of when I was sitting in it - 8th gen Civic? Some Korean rental car? No, it's Tesla ..different strokes. I only mention because it reminds me that, econobox interiors aside, this will end up much more Corolla than the GR Yaris ended up Yaris. This should bode well for price. Talk of Golf R comparable pricing is off base, certainly for the core.

I almost hope it ends up priced stupid though. Will make it easier to follow my better judgement and not buy this.

It was a rant and you needed to needed to hear it whether the delivery was to your satisfaction or not. Believe it or not, trying to help you. I'm not in the daisies and rainbow delivery business.

Again the Motomachi factory has way more human assembly than normal therefore production is limited and will stay that way no matter who likes or doesn't like it. Researching for far too many months, and having the experience of buying a RS with similar production numbers, the reality is most are clueless. They have neither the experience with limited production models nor understand how this car is going to work. Trust me, everyone is trying to land a Circuit Edition. They think because they got a deposit in, a month ago like myself, or many with deposits going back to December of last year or even longer, they are going to land one. Nah, not how this is going to work. 1500 vehicles for USDM and Canada means pipe dream for the most part. Some will get lucky, the overwhelming majority are in for a rude awakening.

Cash in hand doesn't mean anything right now. Go look up video cards, newer generation consoles, hell even appliances people can't get. I know that first hand having to replace a dishwasher Q3 of 2021. What I wanted, vaporware. Had to buy something I could actually get. Until this global supply chain starts alleviating, this is the modern reality and it's still not going to get back to 100% until late next year. Then supply will need a few years to catch up to demand. This will not alleviate for years.

Subaru launch editions have no bearing on this vehicle. Realistically, get your $ in somewhere. Then don't have expectations on when. Skin in the game means you'll get a core in the next couple of years but that could be 2024 for example. Aftermarket? I'd get over that. What I would prefer is the Heavy Metal, metallic grey color. CE rear wing, CE seats, gloss black bumpers and loaded. The hood louvers they say are functional, well they aren't on the GRY so they aren't necessary. One look at the front bumper shows you the cooling they have engineered already. Bulged hood, meh. CF roof, if you do some research you find long term they do not hold up well. Eventually the epoxy/resin bonding that thing down starts to do this yellowing type thing. So that's something you have to spend $ on from the rip, applying PPF to it or a wrap to protect it which just defeats the purpose of it from a cosmetic perspective. Nobody is racing the car for $ so it's a cosmetic thing only. So in reality from a drivers perspective the Circuit is a cosmetic version of the car and nothing more. And it's going to be relatively unobtainable for most. Some will get lucky, but it will be very few. So aftermarket, get over it. A rear wing add from OEM or aftermarket is nothing compared to gutting the interior or doing a heap of bolts ons and tuning. There will be some tasteful, not over the top wings for the car from HKS and other Japanese companies. A wing add is nothing big man, it's peanuts. And maybe Toyota wises up and offers something OEM as an option as everyone wants that wing on the car. The base wing just doesn't look right. Either way both cars will drive the exact same. Are you buying it to drive it, or take instacrap photos for attention?

You do have the option of just keeping your STI and getting a DD. The reality is whether the new Golf R, this GRC, whatever, is finite. It's the last generation of 100% ICE 6MT AWD Turbos. Then they will go away forever. You could keep your STI, buy a WRX for DD, and your STI will just appreciate. It could be a weekend car, collectors item, whatever. Then you don't have to sweat nothing. DD a STI or GRC is dumb to me because there won't be a replacement for it down the road. Weekend/track/fun vehicle, sure. But oh I'm going to DD this thing, ok, well be prepared after that your replacement will be hybrid, automatic, EV, but it won't be this. Times are a changing and most cannot deal with change.

$ stuff you mentioned, I'm sure it's just YOLO and people saying f it, I deserve this, and I will worry about my debt later.

The reality at the end of the day is that getting one of these at all will be a chore for most anyone. Toyota has even said so if you read between the lines. So you have multiple options. One, put a deposit in after you find a MSRP dealer. Next realize that's just a good faith thing between you and them, zero guarantees. There is no ordering system, dealers have zero information as to allocation, ordering, anything. After that realize 2023, 2024, even 2025. Production is what it is. CE or launch edition, forget it. Your honest best option for that is the 2nd hand market and you will pay 10k over MSRP or more, whatever that is, because nobody knows. I'm sure we will see absolutely ridiculous bs with that. 60k, 70k, 80k, I'd bank on it. There are many people on the GRC forum already stating they will be a predator on this and don't care about fellow enthusiasts. They are all out for themselves. Talk of flipping the one they get and going after a 2nd one, think Ebay type nonsense. If dead set on some limited thing, well Toyo has said the CE is just the first year limited thing. There will be more signature trims. So wait until that info is out there for 2024 and 2025. Then your other options are other vehicles. Supra, Z, new CTR, Golf R, just get something else. You want to fully grasp the demand on this thing? Read the GRC forum. Then go to each youtube video and read the comments. You'll start to grasp the situation then. You know how many instacrap influencers, you boob channels, etc, are going to buy one to release content on it? Start stacking the information up ,be realistic, and then you start to understand you'll be lucky to get one at all. Reality get some skin in the game, be prepared to hurry up and wait, and realize what you're gonna get, if you get, you'll just have to settle one way or the other. You can get one but it will not be easy or come without work. If you work for it, sure, but limited editions and such, I'd forget it unless you are literally willing to pay out your ass. This is the truth.

Still won't be AWD with diffs and a more functional DD body with the 4 doors all people crave and need.

It doesn't matter. Given what every dealer is doing with other cars in my area, this is just another car I can't justify buying. Even hypothetically. All the Toyota lots have $8k markup on GR86 and Supras, I can only imagine what level of stupid this will bring given Subaru handed Toyota their customer base.

I'll let someone with more dollars than sense take the hit so they can pretend to be some crafty douchebag speculator sitting on a gold mine.

Tastes like Corrrollla!

no offense to the crafty douchebags in this thread

Saving grace with pre-orders is that there are always guys who can't take their order for various reasons, mostly due to timing. I've known guys who've had to give up their order because of buying a house, the car came too late for their needs, divorce, growing family, change of income, etc. And even after they're snatched up there are always people who can't keep the car and put it up for sale.

Obviously that doesn't change the number of vehicles available in total, but it's not always 1 to 1 that every single car received by dealers will be spoken for.

Today for giggles I looked at Toyota dealerships in North Dakota and there are several in a relative cluster to each other. Many people won't be willing to travel to receive the car they won't, but you best believe I have zero problems traveling a few days to get exactly what I want.
