In any case, enjoy the torque; I wish Subaru had gave us a bit more of it in stock form.
Flash for more torque, its only 700$ for AP and 250$ for an etune. I bought the AP + 3 fuel tunes before i drove the car home from dealer for that reason. Or flash the R, one way or another torque is readily accessible, i's 'merica!

It's that time of the year when Japanese automakers are releasing details about how they performed in the previous fiscal year, which ended on March 31. Usually, companies also make some major announcements, such as Mazda's confirmation of a next-generation CX-5 hybrid. Subaru has some important news to share as well-production of the new Forester is coming to United States.
The sixth-generation model will be assembled in Indiana at the factory in Lafayette. Production capacity won't be a concern because the Legacy sedan is going away after the 2025 model year. Subaru also intends to produce a hybrid version of the Forester at the same site from 2026. It'll continue to make the Forester domestically at the factory in ***332;ta located in the Gunma Prefecture in Japan.
The electrified variant is going to feature Toyota's hybrid know-how, but we're being told it'll be a "Subaru distinctive HEV [hybrid-electric vehicle] featuring the horizontally opposed engine." It won't be the first hybrid Subie with Toyota technology since the Crosstrek plug-in hybrid received hardware from the Prius Prime in 2019.
Subaru promises this "next-generation hybrid" will also be adopted by the Crosstrek around the same time, so in 2026. The smaller crossover is already built at the two factories in the United States and Japan.
As reported by our sister site InsideEVs, Subaru also plans to roll out three electric SUVs with Toyota's help. The EV trio announced in the same document prepared for investors will join the Solterra, which has been twinned with the bZ4X. One of the new models will be assembled by Toyota in the US. Another is going to be manufactured by Subaru at its Yajima plant in Japan.
All three electric SUVs will be on sale by the end of 2026. These will later be joined by additional electric vehicles developed in-house by Subaru and set to come out by 2028.

Forester production will be split. Our first four 2025s are coming from Japan.

Wish they were all from Japan, as it should be.

Japan said these 2025s are so ugly, we can no longer manufacture them here.

And that's the issue with the VB; you felt like you needed to tune it even before you drove it home.
I never felt like I needed to tune the R; it makes plenty of torque bone stock for what I'm doing (track days and AX a few times throughout the year).
Do I want to tune the R? Maybe; but not until the factory 6y/72K bumper-to-bumper warranty has expired.

Your comment just omitted you from the demographic of the WRX.

How so? Because I do a couple of track days here and there? I'm still going to work and dropping kids to school/daycare once or twice a week with the Golf.
My actual daily driver, a '22 Arteon, makes more torque than the Golf that shows up even sooner in the rev range, gearing is shorter and there's slightly more peak power than the Golf.
It's also a 2.0T engine with the same AWD system as the Golf. It even has frameless doors and it's a liftback.
I paid about the same amount of money I would have spent on a WRX GT.
So, am I still not the demographic of the WRX? Am I really expecting too much from a sporty turbo car displacing 2.4L?
I think not.

It is WHY i bought the car, knowing i could have a 400/450 daily for 1200$ extra, or sub 30k total price (without fees and taxes). I never even drove it before purchase, just sold MY2018 and ordered a 2022.

They're not meant to compete. Subaru may have priced the TR and GT to the Golf R price bracket, but a typical prospective WRX owner isn't cross-shopping a mid-$40k Golf R. Now, if we were discussing the STI, then sure. For around $30k, the WRX would be the preferred car for your average buyer. You are not the average buyer, therefore you are not the target WRX demographic.

I would NEVER track a WRX. I'd sure daily drive the hell out of it though!

I drove a mod'ed 06 GG WRX; downpipe + VF43 + aftermarket TMIC. That was fun for a while.
But, it's 2024, a 2.4T that doesn't make 300 ft-lbs straight from the factory is a missed opportunity to leverage that extra displacement. It's a turn off.
That's all I'm saying.
We know anybody can slap a tune on any of the other 2.0T turbo mills out there and they will make just as much power than a tuned FA24DIT, if not more.
That's not where it's at (at least, as far as I'm concerned); I prefer to get something I can live with, for a while, with the bone stock factory tune and hardware.
I'd rather spend the bulk of my "play" money on suspension, brakes, wheels and tires.

I like how you roll But, at this point, I refuse to purchase a brand new car that I know I will have to tune for more power right off the showroom floor.
I must be satisfied with stock power; if not, I walk away and I get something else with the amount of power I know I will be happy with for a while.
However, I'd have no problem/qualm picking up a *used* VB for the express purpose of tuning it to the moon and back. No problem there.

I feel like if it were that simple it would've been done already, at least where Subaru's use of the Boxer motor is concerned. When they did the S209 they only pushed it to 341hp/330 lb-ft. I don't find your request for a WRX to make that power at $30k price point to be reasonable. The engine just struggles, especially with emissions and such.

I dunno what you guys are looking at but Golf R is that STI money, like 10k more than base wrx. I bought bare/base. I did slap carbotech pads 1921 too, front and rear. And ets intake, plus ap and tune. 22k miles of pure e50 fun.

And what other 2.0t that isnt R can you slap a tune on and make it 400/450? Again, we talking about a $28.4k msrp NEW car here. I mean GTI is 33k so.. and fwd.

My budget is more like $45k, if it was $30k I'd absolutely look at the WRX, cause really, what else is there? The new Si is now $30k. It was a nice deal in 2020 for $24k, now it's $30k and slower w/ less features.

There's the Elantra N but that makes the WRX look handsome.

Again, low end power. Low end power. Not asking for it to make 300+ hp at the top.
It could be making the exact same 271 peak HP but still make power under the curve.
Nothing worth doing is easy; it's a challenge with emissions and other constraints and I get it.

And its engine packs a punch too. It's likely the performance bargain of the decade.
I would have to sell something to get it though and I'm not ready to sell the Golf yet and the Arteon is just too new/fresh to sale at this point.

So, again, its a 34k Hyundai that makes same power, is fugly unless you are born in S Korea or Japan (maybe phillippines too), and is fwd. So i am paying 5-6k extra to have a Hyundai warranty over Subaru warranty?

I dont follow, whats the criteria here unless hating on WRX is the main one? Someone explain it to me like i aint getting it.

EDIT: nothing racist about this comment unless one assumes, 1. that only one race populates these countries, and 2. that i was referring to the race and not nation states which build ugly cars, where Elantra N would be considered on of the best looking for sure. Google japan traffic or s korea traffic or phillipines traffic and look at the CARS in the image. When one sees race first, everything is racist. I take offence when a racist calls me a racist, so thought the need to clarify what is what here and who is who.

As it's been since the WRX hit our shores, they wan't STi+ at WRX price.

They are almost totally ignoring the entire picture. WRX has it's place. It has filled that place better than any other car in the segment.....since it came out. The STI was the bigger puncher and had proper competition for a good while. That competition didn't sell nearly as well and the arguments for why were/are endless. People can't seem to grasp that this WRX was meant to hold the same place it has always done and the "next" STI would have punched higher, as it has always done. The discontinuation of the STI was sad for sure. I was ready to be first in line. But, it didn't make it and to do anything significant with the WRX may be a waste of effort at this point. Things are shifting, I think, unpredictably right now for them to sink more money into something their is no guarantee and they even basically said it in their lastest release about EVs. And now I'm rambling. It's late. I'm tired. I have to be at the station early. Good night.

Well said, also in reality Golf R is over 15K more than a base WRX. Those 6 speeds are weak too, clutch can barley handle stock power so you are forced into the automatic if you want to tune it and not replace the clutch.

Yeah I guess it'd be nice. When I had my 2011 WRX, that thing was darty to 45 MPH with the small turbo. Even my SG Forester XT felt zippy at lower speeds (TD04 turbo). And my BRZ taught me to appreciate either playing down low or revving it out, because that FA20 torque dip was no joke otherwise.

I like the linearity of the VB torque curve, even if it doesn't come on particularly low. I think the best way I could describe the current power is "manageable", which might be the updated 2024 way of saying "adequate", which is neither exciting nor a slouch. I had a 2024 OBXT loaner and the only good thing about that car was when the turbo pulled. As someone who enjoys the play at midrange, I think the VB power would suit me fine, but I recognize I don't speak for everyone.
