Question Sooty Stromung on MY98. Why? What to do?

Everytime I wash my ride, there's a gang of fresh sooty deposits on my Stromung dual tip. I'm running rich, right? That's bad how...? What can/should be done (aside from putting a big ol intake on it, heh heh heh)? Please offer wisdom, or at least knowledge.

Thanks in advance.
