![]() There are actually three attack versions. One is the first batch of attack wheels with a cavity at the back of the spoke and one with a cavity but with a thicker spoke cross section and one without a cavity at the back of the spoke.
THe one with the cavity has been tested with the JWL/VIA standard of 505kg for 5x100 PCD. These is the standard set by the Vehicle Inspection Authority of Japan for our Subaru. The other 2 version has been tested to 5x114.3 and 5x120 PCD and is tested to more than 690 kg per wheel . These is more than adequate for our Subaru as this is already van and light truck capable. Contrary to what others are saying, these wheels are not poorly casted. We have gotten hold of the first attack wheel that failed and the grain structure, aluminum composition, Heat treatment properties are all OK. The wheels have been repeatedly tested with a cornering fatigue test machine simulating continuos cornering for prolonged periods of time. For those with the first batch of wheels produced during April 2002, if you feel uncomfortable with your wheels, we will gladly replace them with the newer batch. The way to check is to remove your wheels and see if there is a cavity at the back of the spoke. If you have a cavity at the back of the spoke, check your casting date. If it reads A4/02 or SVP, you can ask for a replacement if you wish We think that there is no flaw in the wheels in the first batch given that we tested them to our Suby specs and we checked all casting data. But if you feel uncomfortable with the wheels, then we will replace them. You can contact 510 786 1726 for your replacements or e-mail me at [email protected] for any technical questions. The first batch are all 5x100 and with casting date A4/02 and SVP (sample production)

![]() Is it possible for a company to care more about their customers, not just in safety but in peace of mind, as this?

![]() Ok Rota's obvious care for their customers mental well being is outstanding.
I have yet to buy the wheels I want, but now I know what brand they will be ![]() Its also a big example for the rest of the manufacturers that Rota even took the time to come HERE to tell us this. While their actions are not worthy of a nobel prize, they do deserve their customer's praise for such a move. |

![]() What about the Formels? I have a set of Formels on the way on a boat, and I'd like to know how they relate in strength to the Attacks.
Outstanding customer service, makes me very happy I got these rims. -Ryan |

![]() I'll also throw in that I'm very happy with my Rota Formels (street) and Slipstreams (AutoX). Well built and the price is sure right!
Now if I could just talk you into making affordable track wheels for my other car.... |

![]() Well at the risk of being devils advocate let me put on my flame suit.
Asbestos on… Why did this happen in the first place? I know Rota makes a good economical product but more and more often I see threads about their wheels failing. And I’m sorry; fixing it after the fact is just not good enough in my book. Especially when it is something as critical as a wheel. What if I buy some Rota’s that fail while I am on the highway at 70MPH, or at the track? Will I be provided with new wheels? Rota’s customer service is very well established and as I mentioned they make a good economical product but I will remain VERY skeptical about putting their wheels on my car. I just would not feel safe at this point, and that is a shame because I love the SDR’s. Until I am re-assured about their products I will be looking elsewhere for new wheels this spring. I would love to hear from you regarding this Mike. Sincerely Steve Asbestos off… |

![]() Now I don't own a set of aftermarket wheels yet, but I have seen the threads regarding Rota wheel failure, particularly the Attack and Subzero. Being a company of well established customer service and support and equally as good product in my opinion, they are definitely doing a great service to their customers by posting on this site, even offering to take the wheels back.
Now with that being said, I can also say that Rota is not the only company that has wheel failures such as these. Mazda for one instance had a problem with their third gen. RX-7 wheels cracking on the insides of the spokes, this is factory stuff now! I also recall seeing Subaru's rally car running part of a race with just the spokes of a right rear Prodrive P1 wheel on the car, and that was it. I know that is more of an example of extreme usage, but it still failed to hold up to the use. And I am sure that there are a few people on this forum that rally with Rota wheels... Now what I want to know is if anybody has experienced wheel failure with Rota's during normal driving conditions? (edit for missing words ![]() |

Consumer Prodrive P1s are all but bulletproof. No breaks, no weird stuff, no nothing. There was a report of someone bending one after hitting a 6" deep pothole or some such. I've had mine on two different cars, through all sorts of potholes, etc. Keep in mind also that you can break ANY wheel if you hit something hard enough! ![]() Having said all that, Rota Wheels' customer service is excellent, and should serve as an example for all manufacturers who sell products on this board, even if the ideal situation would be to not have any wheel failures, period. ![]() I mean OBVIOUSLY Rota has pretty much THE BEST customer service any of us have seen. But Here is my problem,
Anyone can SAY its an isolated incident, and they can replace every wheel that even LOOKS like it might possibly almost be a defect(which is awesome) But what if I buy them, and in a hard turn at 60MPH one of my wheels fails, the car flips and is destroyed? What good will that warranty be to me? I would LOVE to buy a set of Attacks for my race tires, but until Rota can come up with some very hard evidence that the new batch is better, and that it was in fact an isolated problem, I just cant chance it ![]() Come on ROTA, seriously, give us some hard facts and numbers, and I will be more than happy to drive around on your wheels ![]() |

![]() Sorry about the e mail. You are right, It is [email protected]
And to answer the question what makes the attack better than the old version. The main difference is that there is no more cavity at the back of the spoke. In short, the spoke is solid and that the old one is has a canal in the middle. What numbers are you looking for? |
