![]() I have a 94 L sedan with 151,000 and still running good, but I am really interested in pursuing either an EJ20 turbo engine out of a WRX or a 2.5 engine from a GDA model 2.5RS. If all others fail I would consider a 2.5 engine from a GC8. I am wanting to swap in the engine and transmission. Would someone know where to find info about either one of these swaps and what will i need as far as parts go so I can complete the project? Will either of these engines and transmissions fit into my car? How hard is the swap? Is there a shop in the TRI-STATE area that focuses on these projects? I will appreciate any help and info given.....ANY!!!
Thanks in advance Bryan

![]() i think your first step should be to look around in the Aftermarket Forced Induction forums since there's LOTS of information about engine swaps and related transmission swaps and discussions of what is needed to to pull these things off.
i hope that helps. |

![]() A good source of info on this is at www.i-speedusa.com. Down side is they're on the west coast. But, the site has a forum where you can ask questions, and pics of some installs so you can get an idea what's involved. The worst part of the whole swap is the wiring, which is over 20 hours worth of work, and they're experienced at it.
That being said, they did the swap on my RS and the results are AWESOME! Well worth it. You can see some pics on my web site: http://www.woidaworld.homestead.com/EngineSwap.html i-Speed's website also have a price breakdown comparison between turbo kit vs. swap. Also very helpful. I remember reading about a place on the east coast that does the swap, but I don't remember their name. Also some place in Canada, again my memory fails me on the name. Good luck. |

![]() Kosta, have they confirmed that it will be the same internals? Forged pistons, sodium filled valves, etc.? I wouldn't be surprised to see the Forester come with cast pistons and normal, non-AVCS valvetrain. Either way, it would still have the potential for big power.

![]() Nope, internals are all the same. Pistons, valves, AVCS, semi-closed block, etc. It was part of the press release. The only real differences it seems are the intake manifold, turbo, intercooler, and piping along with ECU programing of course.

![]() If your using the 94 as I am it would be easier to use a 98 or 99 2.5RS engine because there is little work needed to swap the engine. They are MAF engines and don't require and ECU swap. The 00-03 are MAP engines and require a lot of installing and modifying time. I've been looking to do either an EJ22G or an EJ25 swap and this is what I have heard form the EJ25 side. I was going to do the EJ20T swap but have to back out and am selling mine on NASIOC because i don't have the money to do the ECU swap.
Good luck and hope this was helpful, Micah |

![]() Lately I have been running across JDM WRX front clips for around the $3500 give or take range. Which seems to be less for most of the USDM WRX engine, tranny, etc etc setups for sale. Although now with the USDM STI coming I think all previos years both US and outside here will decrease in price alot, so I am hoping.
Email RalliSpec they are very helpful!! -Joe |

![]() sorry guys, been reading too many on this subject im officially confused. im thinking of dropping a 2.5 to my awd L. As Homemade Wrx said it would be easier to get 98-99 rs, if i could get my hands on one then i dont need to change the edu? how about the wiring harness? will having a set of 2.2 wiring harness help with this project? im thinking of just dropping the engine in for now and then the tranny later. i think i need to change the engine mount too right? hmmmm confused......

![]() I would definetely go with the swap.
I rode in RS with sti v4 swap and two RST, all of them are fast, but sti4 is just smooth, and feels trouble free. and torque doens't seems to be an issue with that motor. |

![]() Here is another question about engine and tranny swaps...? I have a 2003 Legacy GT wagon with 200k miles on the EJ253 engine and a manual tranny. I have access to a wrecked 2007 Impreza with 36k miles on a EJ255 engine and a manual tranny. Can I swap the engine and tranny from the 2007 into the 2004 without extensive modifications? Any info or help in finding instructions as to whether this is possible would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
