![]() Hey guys,
Well, my brother Ryan, one of the Master Subaru Tech's at Rancho Grande Motors in San Luis Obispo, CA just came back from his usual "New Model Update and Information" 2 day training course for the Forester Turbo and the STi. Anyways, here are just a few cool facts that the regional Subaru instructor informed him about the STi: 1. The STi's transmission was DESIGNED(not mass produced) by Porsche for Subaru. 2. The second gear has 3 synchro's and is essentially "beefed up" along with the rest of transmission to handle the power of the 2.5 turbo..translation...easier to "light 'em up" from a dead stop. 3. The STi clutch has 900lb pounds more holding force than that of a regular WRX...meaning mild mods won't phase the clutch. Let me repeat once again, these are STRAIGHT from the Subaru Tech Training Center in Ontario, CA. -STiLL

![]() Jon,
Well I certainly would, however, 2 problems; 1.I have no scanner and 2.My brother keeps his booklets in his work stall at the dealership for reference. But, if I can get one of my buddies to scan some material for you guys if my brother brings them home, then I would certainly scan some stuff for you all. -STiLL |

![]() The more I learn about the STi the more convinced I am how much more superior it is to the EVO. Thanks for the info.

![]() I don't know about you guys, but after hearing this from my brother, it DEFINITELY helped me gain more confidence in adding mods to my STi. Regardless of how "bulletproof" a motor is, it is nothing without a transmission to handle the added power. Probably one of the weakest links of the regular WRX was its transmission. I guess Subaru did their homework this time around and took into consideration what kind of people would be buying the STi by contracting Porsche for a transmission design. Once again, I applaud Subaru for their attention to quality for the STi. Now only if Subaru and Porsche could collaborate on a wicked motor for, perhaps, the next gen STi(3.0 boxer 6 turbo 350-400hp??)...well, I'll keep dreaming, but it would be pretty SICK.

To borrow a term from the kids today; The STI "OWNS". For $33 large you get; Brembo brakes, Porsche designed 6MT, DCCD, locking front, & rear diffs, 300/300, shaved rear glass (a Porsche trick), lightweight aluminum hood & deck lid, 900lb clutch clamping force, 'Sport' ABS (only Merc has this!), BBS forged wheels stock, forged internals, AWD, Defi Gauges stock (!), Escaine seating inserts, four position driver adjustable HID's, and a full factory warranty to boot with daily driveability on regular pump gas all wrapped up in a usable four door package with the highest crash safety rating in its class and it'll make another 30WHP with <$3K in streetable mods! Heck what more can one ask for?! Ok, those pneumatic 'Jacks' and the robotic homing bird from the 'Mark V' would have been nice and maybe a factory NOS 'boost' button like the 'General Lee' had for taking shortcuts "as the crow flies". ![]() Geez, I gotta get one of these things! - Janq |

It just keeps getting better. Whats next, Subaru will offer 0.0% financing on all 2004's including the STi?! When do we hit the bottom of this seemingly endless bag of goodies. I think Santa Claus picked up a job at Subaru. Ho, ho, ho! - Janq |

![]() Dang, I didn't know that the guages were from Defi! That explains why the tachometer swept so smoothly across the numbers that "flashed" on like HID's when I started up the STi that was sold at Rancho Grande. I guess you can never know too much about the STi. Anything else exclusive or any other name brands that are on the STi?

The US EVO gets only Brembo brakes, Recaro seats (nice!), HID's (non-driver adjustable as I understand it), they get some nice wheels though but no DCCD, no locking diffs, no Defi's (super cool), no Sport ABS system (used only by the STi and Merc), or alot of the stuff that comes standard on the STi...oh but they do get an automated intercooler sprayer button and a 'bumper to bumper' warranty that dealers are giving them heck to use and not to mention the now infamous tranny issues as well as the upcharge for a CF wing that doesn't like to stay together. All this from a car thats only been on the road 3-4 months. I wouldn't exactly call that "same". As for being put together, does anyone in their right mind doubt the STi is a tour de force? Come on, really. For overall quality and customer satisfaction Mitsu's history does not hold a candle to Subaru though they are ranked along with GM. ![]() There's people that would put their money on a G35 Coupe 6MT(me) or a Z or a Boxster or Cobra or a lot of other cool toys. But the total amount of quality product you get for the dollar in the STi remains to this moment unique to Subaru. And it all works seamlessly and in harmony to boot. No 'bumper to bumper' warranty/'hope they'll fix-it' plan required. Now don't take me as bashing EVO or their owners (OMG, not that again!), as I'm not. I'm merely stating known facts, and those facts underline an irrefutable truth in that the STi gives buyers a double barrel load of bang for the buck. Maybe next year Mitsu can import a 'Super' EVO (RalliArt) or something else to one up the STi. Untill that day though as I said earlier; "The STi Owns". - Janq "The more I learn about the STi the more convinced I am how much more superior it is to the EVO..." - DucatiBoy |
