Default Mod day

Actually mod day and one half. Started last night. Added the Factory short shifter, APS TBE, APS BOV, APS I/C discharge pipe, Defi gauges, Perrin crank pulley, Blitz SUS, and probably forgeting something.

#1 Shifter: Worth every penny, a must do mod.

#2 APS TBE: Quieter than expected. Low rumble at idle and a decent growl at WOT. Fit & finish are incredible. Would buy again.

#3 APS BOV: Sounds cool. Exceptional quality. Performance gains, I doubt it. Good support for future mods.

#4 APS discharge pipe: Fit and finish are exceptional. Should flow better than stock. It eliminates one coupler and has a smoother air passage. Would not do again unless it was very cheap. This one was.

#5 Defi gauges: What needs to be said. Incredible. Very easy to install. Must do if you plan any mods. EGT, Boost, Oil PSI.

#6 Blitz SUS: Time will tell. Sounds good. Will also be trying an APS CAI to compare.

#7 Perrin crank pulley: Very easy mods 15-20min. Seems to rev a little quicker. Quality is exceptional.

That's all I can remember for now. Overall a great way to learn my car. Worst part of the whole project was reinstall the TMIC. What a pain. I will add a FMIC just so I don't have to do the TMIC again.

No boost creep noted yet. I pulled through 5th about 6300-6400rpm ad recorded a max reading of 1.2bars. No cels.

Actually the total time was about 8 hours. First time Subbie owner. 2-3 hours, no way. Maybe with you and ten of your buddies and a lift. I work alone, slow and methodical so don't overlook anything. Now having done it once I am sure I can shave off a couple of hours.

Put some miles on it last night night and I like the improvement. Absolutely zero exhaust drone on the feeway. I varied speed and gears in an attempt to find a drone. Didn't happen. Very happy about that. The gauges are awesome. I was originally going to attempt the change the LED's so the Defi gauges matched the dash. Very happy I didn't. The contrasting color makes it very easy to check reading at a glance. The red/red would look cool but I think the white/white is more functional.

which aps exhaust did you go with? it looks like they have an R1 (3") and and R2 (3"-2.5") that would fit.

You said you installed the 3" APS turboback exhaust (R1) with cat right? Is this on an STi?

I just finished installing the same on my STi this weekend and agree that the finsih and fit were great except that the cat hits the side of my transmission on the STi. A little coercion with a hammer and the heatshield on the cat made it fit, but I was a little disappointed that they would let the cat make contact with the tranny like that.

Did you have the same experience?

I also agree on your sound assesment as it is quieter than I expected but still a nice deep rumble with no drone at cruise. I saw significant boost creep once in 5th, but I had to really get the RPMs up to do so.

I used the 3.0" with cat. It's a full 3.0" all the wat back.

Initially I had the same interfirence with the cat hitting the tranny. After much head scratching I rotated the cat one hole one the 3 hole collector (33 degrees). Presto it fit perfect with no contact. I don't think it matters which way you rotate it. Either way will net the same results.

DOHH!

That makes perfect sense, I can't believe I didn't try that. Thanks for helping me through my brain fart. I guess I will fix it this week when I get the turbo wg ported.

Silver-Bolt,

I rotated my cat today as you suggested and now it fits perfect. I don't know about you but I think the APS sound is just about perfect!

Thanks,

Nick

Uber,
I have to agree on the sound. Just right for me. Glad the cat suggestion helped.
