Default The Scoobymods Relief Fund Thread

OK, I've been paying attention what people have been talking about with the new PPV setup. It seems many people didn't realize how much trouble we were in.

So Peaty and I have come up with the following as a compromise and working together to come up with something that would should work out well.

The site is going to stay PPV. BUT, we have a chance here to change that. IF we can come up with $2500 in donations, vendor advertising and subscriptions (any combination of them) between now and July 31st, we will open up Scoobymods.com back to the way it was.

How do I donate or subscribe?
To make things easier on me for tracking, please use this link --> http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3616 There are options to subscribe or donate, whichever you prefer to do once you have registered. If you don't want to use PayPal, PM me and I'll give you details on where to send cash, check or Money Order.

So what happens to those who have paid for subscriptions already if you go back to a free site?
They will get access to a new Members only forum which will allow them access to specials that normal members don't get. They also get a few other extra website treats and goodies.

What happens if the deadline passes without meeting the goal?
The site stays the way it is as PPV and will stay up as a PPV site. We have a obligation to the subscribers and advertisers to keep the site going.

What happens if you hit the target before July 31st?
The site gets opened back up immediately upon hitting the goal of $2500.

What happens after you contribute a mod?
You will get a 3 month Basic Membership (a $4.95 value) for contributing a mod to the site. The more mods you contribute to the site, the more membership level you can obtain, upto 1 year of membership (a $12.00 value).

What if I already contributed a mod?
We are going back through the last years worth of contributions in the Contributions forum and giving those people 1 year of membership (a $12.00 value) for their effort to make this site the way it is.

Why doesn't Scoobymods merge with NASIOC
Nick and I have had discussions about it, but nothing that will be public. It's not going to happen. Feel free to email him and pester him, I'll be deleting those emails...

Why not 3rd party hose the site?
I've already built up a very complex setup including dual webservers, hardware load balancing, dedicated SQL server. ETC... Bandwidth and servers are not a problem, I've upgraded future thinking.

Why did Scoobymods have to go PPV anyways?
I really want the site to be free and stay that way. It was always free because I pumped my own money into it. I have been out of work since Oct. and can no longer afford to put any money into it. Peaty puts just as much time as I put money into the site. He's the biggest reason we didn't decide to shut down rather then go PPV.

Special Notes
Precision Tuning has signed up to be a sponsor / advertiser on Scoobymods. We'd like to thank them for their help and the money from that goes directly into the running totals...

Running Total
I will be updating this running total atleast 2x a day The "edited by" note will reflect the last time it was updated. Currently we are at $2554

It would be nice if Nick made this an Announcement for a week or two. I just sent money for like the fourth time. Paypal away again!

P.S. You might want to post up your Paypal email address for the ultra lazy to donate via Paypal. It would also allow us to make custom donations. I just donated $12 and would have preferred a nice even number like $20.

Nick said that he would make this an announcement today when I talked with him on the phone. He promised he would as soon as I posted it (and emailed him the thread), time permitting.

If you contribute mod instructions do you get anything? This may be a great way to rally more people to contribute and with even more information, you may get more subscribers.

I updated the 1st post with information on that. We have pledged all along to give membership access to those who contribute (moving forward) and those who have already contributed.

I won't be answering them either... if Scoobymods stays PPV at this point there is nobody to point the finger at that right back at yourselves. I have donated a few times to the Scoobymods cause in the past... but I am a firm believer that the people using the mods the most should be the ones donating a few dollars here and there to help keep the site alive. He's not asking for a fortune... just a few dollars from a few members who found the site helpful and saved them either time or money with one of the mods posted on it.

There is no good reason a wonderful resource like this should have to struggle. So take all those dollars you saved up and send them to Scoobymods.

Not a lot to ask... but that's just my opinion.

so is there going to be a running tally of how much has been donated? So we can sort of get an idea of how far it needs to go before the dead line?

I just payed for my years subscription, I would hav payed for a 5 year subscription if there was an option for it

1 dollar month, you cant get a better deal than that. Scoobymods has surely saved everyone who uses it way more than 1 dollar a month.

I also threw on top of that another 25 dollar donation.

So lets whip out those wallets, search the chouch cushions and look under the seats in your cars!

Scoobymods has always been a staple in the subaru community, lets all pull together and support them so it can continue to be.

I think ill wear my scooby mods t-shirt 2morrow

Good Luck Kastle and Peaty!

If you've ever used the site please donate something They've saved me hundreds and have been helping people with self mods or at least explaining how stuff works visually in a way that no other forum has consistantly done. Definately worth the price for the yearly plan but I don't mind helping to make it free for others a bit if I can

Hmm, so now do I buy a membership or just donate the money?

Say I have $20

I assume if I spend $12 of that to cover my ass in case this pledge drive fails, that $12 does not go into the total?

In other words should I donate $20 or do I get a 1 year membership for $12 and donate the other $8?

Just threw down the Premium subscription at $12 and a little $25 on top cause it's my birthday! Scoobymods is great and I'll happily do what I can.

First post has the instructions for donating or subscribing. Personally, if I only had $20, I'd subscribe ($12) and use the other $8 for something else. That's only if I had $20. If you had $25, I'd go the donation route. Hope that clears that up.

I think that since this site and Scoobymods have both done so much for the Subaru world that both should benefit from each other. But, the key is that this site has benefitted from us as well... We need Scoobymods to stay the way that it has always been. The most surefire way for that to become a reality would be for SM to become Nasioc sponsored site. Either way, Kastle you get money from my next check!

I know I responded to your PM, but I'd like to assure people that Nick has contributed money and time to Scoobymods. He and I are working together to get through this, and I know I can count on Nick in a pinch.

Save the $8 for gas?
Now I'm confused, I thought you were trying to raise money?

I guess what my question comes down to is the fact that any memberships purchased right now DO NOT count towards the $2500 goal. Correct?

I'm pretty sure I won't be using the scoobymods resources over the next year so I guess its in my best interest to just donate $20 and hope the $2500 goal is met.

Every donation that has come in since this post has gone up has counted towards that $2500 limit. We are over $200 already. Maybe I mis-lead you with my post... I meant to say if you only had $20, then subscribe (12) and keep the rest.

If you had $25, then donate that... Sorry for the confusion.

I understand Kastle... but a pinch is what you are in now the way I see it. But, I know he cant go throwing money to every struggling subaru board. But, yours is different... I dont mean to poke or prod anyone. I just think more could be done IMHO. Reguardless, I think us guys will come through for ya!!

I have contributed a mod, and have access now. I have several mods planned, so I should have access in the future. That said, I would still donate if there was a non-paypal option. Cant you put an item up at kastleskorner to take regular money? Or can I send you a check?

I'll hit you offline (PM) with that information. I'll take checks, Money Orders or cash.. Also, I'd like to keep kastleskorner.com out of this, as I have tried to do for a while now.

I want to thank everyone for their support. I appreciate it more than you know.

If anyone is subscribed to other Scooby lists and could spread this link that would be helpful. I'm only on a few boards myself as Scoobymods takes up a lot of my time.

Peaty

Hey my Birthday is in July, it would be a cool BD present if I could post links to our site again that everyone could see.

Default Toronto will try and help

Hey Kevin,

I am going to take your original message and post it up on the Toronto Subaru Club.

I am hoping that your neighbours to the North can lend a hand.

I know our money is funny colours (yes we spell colour with a "U") but I am sure it will help.

I encourage everyone out there that is also a member of a local community Subaru club to do the same.

Scoobymods rocks and let's see what we can do to keep it around!

Add another $12 to the pile.. From another Canadian no less..

I don't think you folks will have a hard time getting signups.. I've barely modded my WRX and all of it was after reading scoobymods..
