I had it in MW forum last night. I searched beforehand and didn't find anything. I was going to put it in OT but I figured I probably just missed the thread.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=586158

Ouch either way. Here is the info I got with it:

DAYTON | Doctors revived a man Sunday just hours after medics pronounced him dead on the scene of a car crash, police officials said.

Dayton Police Sgt. Charles Hurley said Scott Tegtmeyer was walking in the intersection of Third Street and Edwin C. Moses Boulevard at 12:40 p.m. when a Chrysler PT Cruiser ran a red light, struck a Subaru sports utility vehicle and sent it into the air.

The Subaru landed upside down on Tegtmeyer and dragged him several feet across the intersection, Hurley said. Tegtmeyer, bloodied and surrounded by shattered glass, was pronounced dead on the scene, but he suddenly started breathing while in transit with paramedics. By 3 p.m., doctors had fully resuscitated him.

On Sunday evening, he was in the Miami Valley Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

Neither of the female drivers of the vehicles involved were carrying passengers. The woman driving the Subaru was transported to Miami Valley Hospital. Information on the condition of the driver of the PT Cruiser was not available. Hurley said police talked to eight witnesses. He also said it is possible a camera mounted high above the intersection captured the crash.

Dayton police reconstructionists, trained at putting clues together after crashes, were on the scene with digital cameras and measuring devices. The flipped Subaru showed noticeable crash damage on the left body panel. Ten yards away, the customized P.T. Cruiser with a "AAA" sticker on the back of its tinted windows showed damage to its front end.

The SUV driver was going too fast - anticipating the light and didn't slow down. You can tell from the cars that actually stopped. I'm guessing the guy on the left had a red left turn arrow.

Come on, the PT cruiser's light was red for several seconds before he ran the light. you can tell by the deceleration rate of the oncoming cars in the other lane.

Regardless of whether the Subaru was traveling too fast or not, the light was green.

Several? It's hard to say if the light was red for more than one second. The PT is well into the intersection before the cars going the other way stop or even reach the thick white line.

A green light still does not give you carte blanche to floor it. The PT cruiser was probably 80% negligent and the Subaru (yes, even subaru drivers mess up) was 20%. The subaru had the last chance to avoid the accident, and is contributorily negligent. And it was going WAY too fast for a car that *just* got a green light supposedly.

Some friends and I were discussing red lights this AM after one of them floated this vid to us all yesterday. Have the green light flash 5 or 10 seconds before it changes to yellow. End of problem. It was tested in some cities.

Watch the video. If the PT hadn't run the light and hit the Subaru, the pedestrian would have had to dive out of the way to miss getting hit by the Subaru.

and if you look at the video there was a good 3-4 seconds that the light was red. plenty of time for the subaru to build that speed. the old lady was just a complete moron and I WILL SAY ONCE AGAIN old people should be retested for licenses. that light was red for a long time.

"According to our medic crew's report, he was never dead," Assistant Fire Chief John Moore said. "His respirations never stopped and his heartbeat never stopped."

The man, Scott Tegtmeyer, 42, remained in serious condition Monday at Miami Valley Hospital's intensive care unit.

Moore said the department plans to speak with police officials who reported Tegtmeyer died and was later revived. "(Tegtmeyer) had difficulties breathing, and we aided him in breathing. He was delivered to Miami Valley still breathing, and they were able to stabilize him."

The accident, caught on a red light enforcement camera, showed a 2003 PT Cruiser driven by 75-year-old Betty J. Hayslip of New Lebanon traveled at 40 mph through a red light and into the northbound SUV, driven by Albertina L. Walker, 41, of Dayton. The speed limit at the intersection is 35 mph.

Walker was in serious condition Monday at Miami Valley Hospital.

The SUV was traveling at 35 mph when Hayslip struck it in the driver's side.

The SUV flipped two times before landing on its top, careening into Tegtmeyer and dragging him several feet. Tegtmeyer was in a pedestrian crosswalk walking east, but was walking against the red light, according to the tape.

No charges have yet been filed against Hayslip, who was not injured.

The 12-second video of the crash was triggered 28.4 seconds into the red light cycle when Hayslip (PT Cruiser Driver) crossed the buried sensors connected to the signals and cameras.

The camera snapped the rear of the vehicle, a close-up of the rear license plate and a full view of the intersection showing the vehicle traveling through the red light.

Several witnesses, traveling west, were approaching the stop. One witness was traveling east and had stopped for the light.

Tegtmeyer is on record as living in Troy but used a Dayton address to apply last year for a city panhandler's license. "He's not well-known to us," Police Public Information Officer Carol Johnson said. "He wasn't a problem."

She said Tegtmeyer was convicted of a DUI several years ago and "decided not to drive anymore."
1) The light was red 28.4 seconds before the PT cruiser went through it.
2) The Subaru Forester that got hit had a green
3) The Speedlimit in that intersection is 35
4) The PT was doing 40, the Subaru ... 35
5) The pedestrian was crossing across the green light (aka: Jaywalking)
6) (No bearing on the who is at fault.. but was in the atricle) The pedestrian was convicted in a previous incident with DUI and decided not to drive again.
7) The driver of the PT was 75ish years old.... (now read number 1 again)

Watching the video,

1) I'm wondering if the pedestrian had headphones on and wasn't paying attention or.....
2) Saw the Subaru was in the left lane of the two and knew that he'd have enough time to cross the road where the Subaru would have effectively passed behind him in the left lane when he was in the right.
3) The subaru was in the left lane of the two lanes going the same direction and was pushed into the right one when the PT hit

It's impossible to say how fast the sube was going from the video, but you're not supposed to have to slow down for a green light, no matter how new or old it is.

I typically proceed through intersections with a bit of caution, but you have to put some amount of faith in the idea that people are going to stop for red lights. That's kind of why traffic lights are there in the first place.

Read the article again... the SENSORS in the road tell the story how fast both cars were going. Nothing to be estimated or guessed at.

And I agree with you on green lights.... not supposed to slow down, but just keep your head up.
