Springrate on the USDM springs is easily found here somewhere. But "a bit too soft for the struts" would be my official answer. Match the V8s up with some Pinks and you will never look back.

S-techs cause more problems than they solve as far as handling goes. For visuals, you can't find a lower spring. Do a search on "camber curve" if you are more a performance guy than looks guy.

Actually I had them On my CAR FOR OVER 10K I never got an alingnment after the install, and all of my tires wore evenly I was AMAZED!!!

I drove my friends 04 STI and I was amazed how well it handled for a stock setup. THat is whay I was aking about the spring rates. I know S techs are 250 up front and 200 I think out the back. SO they seem to be stiffer than stock STI springs. Therefore strut would make that diffrence.

That is why I am debating between STI struts or AGXs.

I want a better performance, but I am not "crazy over the hill about handling". I am just looking for something better than stock. I am runing front and back cusco swaybars, front and back endlinks, and right now I am going to install HKS camber plates, so I figure I change the struts too I would go with Coilovers, but I had them on my last car and I never messed wit them, I know I wont use them to their full potential, so that is whay I am going with spring/strut setup

Thanks for the advice, oh and I love the way the car looks on S techs

Anyone else?

You are missing the forest because of the trees here; it's not the springrate that is so bad about the S-techs; it's the amount of drop that goes along with that spring rate. Typically they make a car understeer as badly or worse than the factory setup, plus cause issues with hitting the bumpstops quite a bit. Very little shock travel left after a drop like that.

Coilovers aren't worth it. If you don't have to be as low as the S-techs put you, do the JDM Pink springs and you will be MUCH happier.

Seriously, do a search on the S-techs.

Do they even have 04 AGX's yet? If not then you will have a whole host of other compatibility issues if you use the 02/03 AGX with the 04 hats and springs.

anyway, assuming they are available for the 04, the adjustable damping will be a nice feature to have. AGX's don't like to be lowered too much and the S-TECH's would be pushing the outside envelope on the struts stroke capacity. you might be left with very little travel with the AGX. The STi strut is a strut designed for a lowered spring but still not as low as the S-Techs. but from the sounds of it you might not notice the difference or care either way.

I'd say go with the AGX if they fit your car, the adjustable damping will give you something to play with; let you crank it up when you want to carve the twisties, soften it for the grannies, etc.

Dick - the issue is with the rear hats. Are you running rear plates as well?

i'm running 02/03 agxs with 04 tophats/springs. the fronts have no issue at all. in the rear you have to use a 16mm ID washer under the top nut and you wont' have issues. check that thread Arnie posted. and read my replies near the end of the thread.
