02 rex Stock. with stage 3 clutch kit
Hi i have a 2002 bugeye that is mostly stock besides my two front and rear sway bars and my exhaust. I just got my heads worked on (valves 2 & 3 died on me) and i also had a bad clutch and rotor. So i gave my mechanic 1150 for a whole stage 2 clutch kit but they hooked him up with stage 3.
Can i get some educated insight as what to expect with this? I dont want to put any mods on it because tuning it + parts would cost a grip, but if i should, what mods would be nessisary.. ( i forgot how to spell this word lol)..? |

try to get a refund and save over 700 bucks. search exedy ksb03 I believe as it is the oem spec that your tranny will thank you for. Oh and get a new flywheel while you're at it or resurface your own if you choose. you definitely don't need a stage 2 or stage 3 clutch. read the technical stickies under 2.0 and drivetrain...it will answer all your questions and more.

sad thing is, we have been waiting a month and half for fixing this car (hes been waiting on parts and he does it at his house... really good mechanic though) and now that i find this out, his phone is off and he is supposed to get the last parts.. the gaskets that the parts shop messed up on. If he got them already then my engine might be dropped in already |

would i be able to just drive it easy and get used to it? without having to put any mods on there?
would my tranny really get messed up just because i got a stage 3 clutch? im thinking of getting used to it and not driving it like you would in a drag race.. thus.. maybe i gears wont get damaged? any thoughts? |

"Stage 3" means nothing, every brand's "stage x" means something different. What is the actual make/model of the clutch you're having installed?

Compared to what I run on my DD that's a toy clutch, It's a full disc, Kevlar clutch, it shouldn't be that bad. That's kinda the whole idea behind a Kevlar clutch is upgraded torque capacity with minimal chatter/over aggressive engagement. However for the price, I would go with another company, You can get a NICE ACT for that price or as mt1101 said go for a lower level exedy. You don't really need all that clutch for a stock car.
I got a ACT 6 puck with extreme pressure plate. That clutch takes some real finesse to drive smoothly. It's the second car I've had with a 6 puck and I can say it's not the clutch that determines a god DD, Any center spring clutch can be DD'ed so long as the driver possesses the proper finesse to drive it. |

I run a twin disc exedy in my daily. If I can do it I'm sure you can. I say keep the clutch and put some torque to match your ridiculously strong clutch. Such as advance the timing and boost.
