2013 ASCC Lions Ice Racing
Here's the ice racing schedule for this winter:
Jan 13 – CANCELED - not enough snow Jan 26 – CANCELED - again, not enough snow Feb 10 – Road Course, Wasilla Lake Feb 17 – Big Lake Winterfest race - With Hot Rod Magazine March 10 - Road Course, BIG LAKE March 24 – Road Course, BIG LAKE This winter, we're trying something a little different. We will be sharing the track, plows, and volunteers with the Mat-Su Vintage Snowmachine Racers, and fitting our heat races within their schedule. It should add quite a bit of excitement to the day, they had 62 racers at their December 30 event! Event Fee $50 / event $35 for a Competition License (Required for Studded and Super Stud classes) Event Schedule 09 AM - Registration & Tech 10 AM - Driver Meeting, Practice if new drivers 11 AM - Races Start! 05 PM - Last Race The Wasilla Lake site is in front of the Mat-Su Resort. The Big Lake site is near the south State boat launch, and SouthPort Marina, very close to where we've raced in the past. IMPORTANT NOTE: As of today, due to wind and warm weather the snow cover is still very low at Big Lake and nonexistant at Wasilla Lake. Although the dates are set, the race locations may change or races could be cancelled. We were spoiled for the last few years with a ton of snow, but without good berms it isn't safe to race cars on the ice. Announcements concerning cancellations or location changes will be posted here and our website at http://www.aksportscarclub.org

I was reading the rules on the website and they seem confusing on the studded tire rule. In chapter 4 it says rubber to ice no studs allowed. However in chapter 6 it defines studs?

Appreciate the schedule being posted. Was there any information from the assembly on the Fur Rendevous event here in Anchorage?

It didn't make it as far as the assembly. There were still questions and concerns being raised, so we decided to pull back this year and start planning for a 2014 Rondy race.
They're still receptive to the idea, but we simply started too late. |

Sure would be great to have that classic race back under the Fur Rendevous banner. |

Unfortunately, we have to cancel our first ice race this Sunday the 13th. There hasn't been enough snow to build the berms we need to contain cars on the track. To those who have preregistered for Sunday already, we can either apply the entry to a future race or issue a refund, just let us know.
First post is updated. |

Very cool of you guys to give advance notice.
My car wasn't finished anyways. I was planning to volunteer for what ever you folks needed though. |

The Mat-Su Vintage Snowmachine Racers put on a great show, head on out and watch.
The deck at the matsu resort has a great view of the track, and I'll be out there with the club car selling raffle tickets. |

Vintage racers canceled their races too. Too much standing water on the lake.

Online Registration is open for this Saturday, closes online Saturday morning at 08 AM.
This is an evening/night event, sleep in folks! Registration & Tech starts at 04PM, closes at 05PM The faster we get our registration and tech done, we might be able to sneak in a race before the snow machine guys start their races. We will be running in between them so all drivers will need to be on their toes and moving fast to grid. Completing online registration helps a ton, even if you are paying with cash/check it makes things go quicker. Event Registration Online https://aksportscarclub.org/ice-race/registration.html The Mat Su Vintage Snowmachine Racers are collecting non-perishables for a food drive - bring 3 and we'll give you $5! All donations will be given to the Mat Su Vintage group for their Food Drive. Last edited by manda.j; 01-23-2013 at 01:48 AM. |

This weather is awful for ice racing. There is not enough snow to hold the event on Wasilla Lake, and according to Southport Marina, Big Lake is a mess.
The race tomorrow is also canceled. |

When there isn't enough snow to safely hold the race, it's actually a pretty easy call.
Mat-Su Vintage Snowmobile Racers are still having their event at Wasilla Lake, and I still plan to head out with the Raffle car and a pile of raffle tickets to sell. Races start at 6, and they'll be running the kids on 120s too |
