Thanks for the comments guys. Sorry for the slow response.

Excellent lens choice. I think the first one could be a little less centered (move the wheel toward the left so there's not as much flat rubber), and definitely without the red border. The second one is a perfect candidate to put that M3 emblem in a rule of thirds crosspoint, but I'd also stop it down just a tiny bit to make sure the full emblem was sharp.

Gorgeous subjects. Anyone who calls themselves a true car enthusiast wouldn't ever call those cars garbage. Such excellent subjects really deserve a better location for the shoot though...all the trees in the background are pretty distracting, not to mention the houses. It looks like a tough time of day to shoot too, since you've got harsh lighting and shadows just about everywhere. The compositions are pretty decent, but I would've still gotten lower to shoot the car exteriors and I wouldn't have things quite so centered in some of the photos either.

Much better with the blacks and whites on this one. I'd bring the car down a bit in the frame though, since it's pretty centered vertically in the frame.

Thanks for the tips. I'll do another edit of them. And definitely without the red border. I thought it would look good, but once I saw it on the site I knew it was a little off. Other than those few suggestions, was the overall exposure and editing good? Were there any additional adjustments you make make to improve the shot? Thanks for the help.

Yeah, the overall editing was pretty good, especially the exposure. I might add a few more blacks to give it a little more contrast, but it's not totally necessary. One thing to be careful about is the reds...maybe a tad lowering the exposure might help that, but some of the reds look a bit too orange rather than red. Just a slight saturation adjustment could fix that too.

Real hard to follow up that shot^^^^^ but im pretty happy with how this set came out, first time since I moved out to California from Missouri that ive been able to go out and take some decent shots... any tips would be awsome, dont have a polorizer so that sucks, and it was shot freehand, hense the grainyness from high iso

I completely agree with all of the comments, especially about the location; The car only gets 8 MPG at best, so we had to keep it extremely local.

We also didn't meet up until 9 or 10 AM and it was a bright and sunny day. What I would have given for 6 AM and some clouds!

These two any better in terms of composition? (Still have issues with the location, I know)

This is an excellent example of what happens when you've shot enough to gain experience in knowing your settings and getting lucky with the subject and lighting. When you combine those together along with an almost perfect example of rule of thirds (I might've moved the car just a tad to the right in the frame), you have yourself something simply awesome. Well deserved!

That location rocks! How come Andy hasn't shot his car there yet?

Yeah, definitely need to get a polarizer and go back with that and your tripod Compositionally, it's not bad, but I would definitely turn the wheels to face the camera. I don't like the flat aspect ratio either, and it would look better with the car at a thirds crosspoint. Once all that is well and done, I'd at least clone out the sign or move the car away so that the sign wasn't in view. Finally, with such a bright background, you're more than likely going to have to use multiple exposures to get everything balanced right.

The composition on these is pretty good, but be careful about that you cut off. In the first photo, I probably would like to see the full carb sticking out of the red car and maybe at a different angle so we can see the Mustang emblem on the black car. The second one good compositionally...it just needs the good location for the background

this is down in San Diego area, thats where I am right now, explains why you havnt shot there huh! the only problem with the location was a lot of cars parked next to mine so I had to wait until it was getting really close to dark for it to thin out... seal beach is only an hour or 2 from carlsbad right? may have to make a trip up!
another 2 from the "set"

when I get home there will be a polorizer being ordered for sure!

Well I have not posted anything in here all year which is a big fail. Since the new year I have upgraded my gear and got a 135L with a circle polarizer. Here is my first automotive shoot even though it is not a car. I am also upgrading to my laptop as my 6 year old Dell is just to slow for editing and pictures. As always comments criticism is welcome I know its not a car but whatever advice you have it welcome. Yes, my first mistake was shooting in the middle of the day but its the only time I have had time to between work and a project I am doing.

Good read! Thanks for sharing.

Any chance that yourself or someone else would be interested in sharing a few tips for editing out the rig in post process?
