Talking Ah dude?! How do I properly check the oil level?

No, I am not a retard

I changed the oil myself, and I've added the right amount. It was just a LITTLE below the full mark (engine still a little warm). Than I checked it after a test drive, it was withing the F range. Than I check it today and its like waaaaaay above F, and I've tried taking it at different engine temps, even completely cold, warm, operating and etc. The level is never correct or the same, it goes up, it goes down, it goes sideways, splits into two colums and etc. This dipstick is driving me crazy. I know I put the right amount in, but how come this son of a biotch won't show it? I never thought I would ask this, but is my dipstick broken hahahahahahahahaha

Oh, in case it matters, its a 2001 2.5RS 5SPD , and I switched to SYNTHETIC oil 5w-30 mobil one

Here's my stab at it:

- park on a flat spot.
- I always check it when the engine is cold.

Yes, my dipstick is sloppy as well; just try to pull it out straight. I try to look for a "V" mark on the stick, where reading is at the lowest point. Check both sides of the stick as one side could have rubbed and made it messy when you pulled it out.

Remember if you forgot to fill up the oil filter before installing it, cycle the oil around a bit after you finish dumping in the prescribed amount, before taking your reading.

well, if your engine was still warm, then chances are all the oil hadnt flowed back down into the resivoir from the engine, making your reading low when you checked. check your oil in the morning before starting the car and that will be an accurete reading.
-hope this helps,
Dan
