Yeah, had a few inches here when i woke up, Then, been pissing rain ever since.
Whatever happened to the "wicked awesome" winters that happen hear? I know its early for this year, sort of. But even if there is double or triple the snowfall of last year, its gonna be depressing. It hasn't even been cold yet. |

There should be an iPhone app for updates on whenever you post anything weather related on these forums. Nothing but rain here today, would have been a lot of snow had it been the right temperature.

Unless you have avy knowledge and gear, stay in bounds please. You'll see lots of people going through the gates, but they're all experienced with training and gear. The back country is very dangerous out there, lots of terrain traps where you can be buried in over 40 feet of snow. It's happened to more than a few people out there. Lots of huge cliffs to get stuck on as well. Aside from that, have fun. Gunners bowl is a blast if it's open. Again. Very dangerous if it's closed though, it's a huge trap. Riding chair one is fun, but there are a lot of cliffs, so keep your eyes up. |

^^^ I don't have much Baker experience, but I do notice one thing there that isn't here as much, and thats Tree Wells. Scariest thing I've been through. Even riding with people its easy to get stuck and no one know where you went.
I'm sure you'll be fine. Its just more of riding smart. A lot of people that get in bad situations are just pushing it way to hard and not being smart. Not saying that applies to everyone at all, just quite a few. |

The dangers there are tree wells and avalanches. They control the inbounds areas, and close dangerous areas. No need to worry too much in bounds. Out of bounds though, It takes a lot of snow knowledge. It can be very tempting because it's just on the other side of a rope, but it's closed for a reason. Stay out unless you're with a local and you have the avy gear.
Tree wells are a danger even inbounds. Best way to stay safe is to always ride with a buddy and keep in sight. That means stopping periodically to look back if you're in the lead. Keep a whistle easily accessible as well, I have one on the chest strap of my backpack. Read up on them. Self rescue is almost impossible. |

Thanks for the info guys. I've been reading up a lot and watching videos on YouTube of how to handle tree wells. They look scary as **** haha. Basically everyone says stay as calm as possible and do not under any circumstances ride alone. We're going to be in a group of 6, 4 riders and 2 skiers. We've got probes, shovels and whistles. I picked up a beacon just for the hell of it too.
We plan to stick strictly in bounds as we don't know the mountain and none of us have first hand experience with PNW snowpack and terrain. I'm so stoked though and hope we get some deep days while we're out there. Anyone doing some skiing/riding this week? I'm home in NH (concord area) for the entire week. Definitely looking to get some turns in after Christmas Day. |

I went to Loon opening weekend a few weeks ago, it was not very good as expected. Currently no snow on the ground in either Lincoln or Waterville, I'd be looking to either the east or west over those two right now, ME and N.VT have done much better then the 93 corridor so far this year.

I'm driving up to Sunapee tomorrow night and skiing on Friday. Then up to Shawnee peak for 3 days.
Anyone else gonna be at Sunapee? |

Nice! My girlfriends parents live there. I love the area. We always head up and stay there when there's snow in the forecast. Anyone going out tomorrow? Looks like high winds across the north country. I may wait it out till Friday... Don't want to run into any wind holds on lifts.

I was at Jay Peak last Saturday/Sunday, and Sunday was a lot of fun. Plenty of freshies to be found in the woods. Northern VT was looking good through the first wave of forecasts (I was thinking Burke too, RR) but looking like I want to chase pow in Maine with the 14-18+ forecasted.

The weather channels website had a real good picture of where the most will be. It looked like mainly VT and northern half of NH. Not too much into the Maine area, at least for the larger amounts.
