Default pocket-logger OBD-2 software......

Hi, i was wondering if anyone had any experience using this software on a WRX. i know its very popular with the DSM guys, and being able to datalog with a PDA is a nice option

I got the software and cable a couple weeks ago. It seemed like the best value of all the PDA scanning tools, which is what I wanted.

The pocketlogger works fairly well. It's great at reading/clearing CELs, but recording IS limited since you can only get ~4 samples/second with it (so if you are collecting 4 parameters, you get a complete sample every second or so). This is NOT the pocketloggers fault, all loggers that use the Subaru OBD-II port seem very limited.

Here is an example of a recent run for me at Atco Raceway:

Has anyone been able to read O2 sensor values on the OBD-2 software?

thanks, do all of the obd-2 scanners for the subaru only take 4 samples per second? or is it just this particular one? i.e. will the scanner from www.obd-2.com take more info per second...at the expense of being able to run it on palm. i think someone already said it was the port limiting the data aquisition, not the scanner, but just checking.

From what I understand the scanning frequency is an OBDII thing.

StevieD - Yes, I have. Check the DIY Tuning S-AFC thread

The maximum datarate is ultimately set by the design of the ECU. But the actual datarate you get with any particular software is, well, up to the software.

All of the subie owners that have a PocketLOGGER are reporting 6 samples a second. This is the fastest the ECU will support. PocketLOGGER is *the* fastest logger out there. Yes, we only get 6 samples a second, but thats the ECU's fault. We have seen multiple cars support 20 samples per second which is pretty much the threortical limit simply due to the actual data speed on the line (10.5kbs)

Yes, OBDII is much slower than the "DSMs" because there is a lot of packet overhead in the OBDII protocol. The DSM protocol, while the actual speed the bytes are transmitted is slower, there is no packet overhead taking up valuable bandwidth.

I love it. Sure it doesnt sample very fast but its not bad at all. Its great at looking at general performance, like how much timing is pulled and whatnot.

Now my palm is always mounted in my car and cable in the glove box just in case... Now I just need to snake the cable behind the dash and always have it attached to the ODB-II port

Mike Montalvo,
I bought the Pocketlogger cable and software for my '92 DSM last year (around November). I used it about 5 times, and then I sold the DSM a few months ago. So now I'm left with the cable, which is now useless to me, and a software program that is also useless to me, and would be very difficult to sell since if I wanted to sell the software, the buyer would have to use my name on his Palm device (since the software requires this as a security measure).
Question: I would like to buy palm-pilot based datalogging software and a cable to use on my WRX. Can I just return the DSM cable to you (and rights to the DSM software), and exchange this for the OBDII software and cable? I'll pay the difference between the 2 packages, and I'm willing to pay an extra service and S&H fee for your troubles. This would be much nicer than trying to sell the DSM cable and software to someone else. And no, there is NO damage to the cable what-so-ever (especially since I only used it a few times). Let me know. Thanks.
