Questions about the 04-05 & 06-07 STi Motors????
Guys,
I have an 03 WRX now and it's been quite sometime since I've done work on the car BUT now I wanna build this car up from the ground. I've already bought all the exterior modification parts & save the ones I had from my previous bug eye and now I'm deciding on what to do with the engine. My goal is to at least, at least have 500 awhp! To do this I want to remove the 2.0l turbo mule that i have in there now and slap on the STi Motor but my question is, what's the difference between the 04-05 and 06-07 STi motors? Also, are these motors a direct drop in to the bug eye engine bay with no special custom work(s) done? Another question I have is, the bug eye didn't come with that power adjuster thingy from the new STi's where u can adjust the power to the front or back of the wheels. Now, will that be a problem installing into the bug eyes? Any advice and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark

Not to be jerk, but it sounds like you need to do a lot of research and probably let a shop do it. I would look up some good shops in your local area forum.
Anyways...pretty much all 2.5 turbo subaru engines are the same. The STi had slightly different pistons from the wrx. Are you planning on doing a shortblock swap or a longblock? You'll want upgraded pistons as an absolute minimun for anywhere near that power. You'll also need a big turbo (gt35r ish), injectors, etc (may supporting mods). You could reuse your 2.0 heads (all 2.5 turbo heads have AVCS if you want to utilize that). The power thingy you're talking about is the DCCD (driver controlled center differential). It's a part of the transmission on all modern STI's. No other Subaru's have it. for 500whp, you'll need a stronger transmission, and the STi 6-speed is very stong. Just because you get a STI 6spd does not mean you'll have DCCD...you'll want a new rear end (r180) also and upgraded brakes. There's a lot more you'll need too... good luck |
