Bet he wont speed anymore. I thought he would get more. 25 isn't a lot for killing 4 people and violating multiple laws. I seen people go longer for raping a girl. Sucks that the police will target Subarus now because of this idiot.

Beer's parents, Patricia and Aaditia Beer, were charged with Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle for knowingly allowing their son to drive without a license. They each face up to 15 days in jail and a fine of $300.
Well, how do you like that? |

Well, it's not like he MEANT to kill his four friends, even if that's what the court ruled. It is interesting though, that the punishment is based on the consequence of his actions rather than the actions themselves. In other words, if he was stopped for going 110mph by a police officer, would he get 25 in prison? Not quite. Should he? Well, if the laws are to be consistent, then yes, he should. I'm insane.

Vehicular Homicide and a bunch on Manslaughters. Definitely a doable conviction.
Police will target Subarus now? Man, what would happen if Subarus had giant wings, loud exhausts or BOVs... |

What parent buys their kid an STI for their first car, let alone a kid with only a learner's permit?

Wait so he only had a permit. And not an provisional license? So did his parents knowingly allow him to drive, did he sneak his car out, or was this someone elses car.
Either way manslaughter or murder. His life is over. |

25 may not be a lot for killing 4 people. But the kid has to go the rest of his life knowing they're dead due to his lack of judgement

We should focus on what the parents really did wrong which is letting a kid with out a license drive. While I don't agree with there method, buying a young kid a moderately expensive and fast car, it isn't a crime to be successful and be able to provide nice things for your children. Unfortunately the parents misjudged the maturity level of their child and allowed him to drive underage. I was given a hammy down car (97 escort) and I had several friends get very nice brand new cars one got a new M3 when he was 16, and while I was jealous at the time I realized they earned the right to have that car by not racking up tickets, not wrecking it, getting accepted to Stevens and now being a very successful engineer. Point being lets not focus on the idea of a kid getting a nice new car because some kids can earn the right to deserve these nice things, while I agree most do not, and rather focus on the real issues which is letting a kid with out a license drive. This could of happened regardless of the car he was driving, most cars can hit 110mph.

^ so true... simple, they enabled him to drive and as a result he killed his friends.. so it falls on both him and his parents, mostly him. His parents should have known better reguardless, he does not have a licence, he can not drive! duh!!!!!!! They broke the law and look what happend.... like seriously bro it was wet out, you have to be 100% retarded to be on the SSpkwy in the rain going over a buck.. he deserves what he gets.. and his parents should get more if you ask me, reguardless of the car they obviously showed the kid how easy it is to be reckless. The parents were reckless by letting him go out on the road and be come a hazard to himself, his friends, and every other driver on the road.. and pretty much showed the kid its ok to be a law breaker.. good going.
just cause the kid can read a stop sign and know the blood alcohol levels, doesnt mean he should be on the road... he passed a written permit test come on! his parents are in a fog and they have to live with that. |

The kid made an extremely dumb move, sure, but does he deserve to spend the next 25 years in jail for it? Arguable; I say no. He will be tortured forever by the unfortunate consequences of his reckless actions, though.
Drunk driver A passes out and crashes into a tree; for that he spends night in jail and pays a few grand for lawyers fees/drivers-ed/insurance premiums... The next drunk driver runs into the same tree, but this time there is a person in the way, squish. Same crime, different luck. Driver B goes to jail, every time. Justice? Or "make an example outtof'em"? |

300hp sports sedans are NOT a safe first car for a teenager. Yeah, some people have done just fine with them, but they are few and far between. Driving is something one learns to do over a very long period of time. Putting someone with no experience into a rocket sled is asking for them to kill themselves. You can get into enough trouble with a 90hp beater, and you're less likely to try to show off your super awesome car if it's nothing special. Guarantee this kid was trying to impress his friends. |

Well don't think I condone this type of parenting, i was given a reliable pos my kids will get a reliable pos. My point was merely saying that's not the real issue any car can hit over 100 mph now a days and kids are dumb... honestly I did dumber things in my 130hp escort then my 310whp Wrx, Because I didn't care bout my escort but when I saved up and bought my Wrx I valued it since it was hard work to obtain. My point here is the real fault is not the parents giving the kid a Sti but allowing him to drive underage and not be stilling proper values into the kids head. My friend I mentioned who got a new m3 at 16 was made clear he received this for having a 4.0 GPA and first slip on grades, ticket ect the car was gone as a result he did well through hs college is a engineer stil has the car accident less and no tickets. When I bought my Wrx when I turned 18 my parents agreed to help with insurance but under the condition I got no tickets well I'm 23 and knock on wood no tickets. There are parenting issues here no doubt but I think the problem is a lot more then buying a nice car for the kid. Either way I agree perhaps it could of been avoided if he had a corolla but it could of def been avoided if he wasn't out driving in the first place with out a license. I also agree these instances like me and my friend are I suppose few and far between, and this occurred def due to poor parenting. You're probably right that he was showing off as well, I just think the main issue here was letting him drive under age more so the then car he was driving underage.
Apologize if there's grammatical errors did this on cell phone. Last edited by DreamEvil; 11-20-2012 at 01:25 PM. |

If he was one of them I don't think he'd feel anything. I think yes the kid messed up and deserves to serve his time. But it's kind of ridiculous how everyone freaks out about a young person in a sti. Its just a car and if family has money it doesnt coast too much to them. I see it this way,it is alot more unsafe to drive a beater car fast like most kids would then a car designed to handle well.
