For what it's worth, I put the 2015 rack in, with the 2015 cross member, in my 2009 Outback (both purchased new). All the various cross members are the same dimensionally, so that provided the correct cutout shapes for the rack/lines. The subframe spacers on the Outback are just that - spacers. So they can be transferred over to the STI cross member (irrelevant for your GD purposes, but wanted to clarify since I'm sure someone would say the OXT is different). So, if you wanted an all OEM setup as I did, you just use the 2015 parts. Same with the lines - so what if the hard-line parts don't go exactly where they belong, these lego cars are compatible enough that a little bending and moving and new attachment clips (or hose clamps) make it all work easily.

The 2015 subframe isn't a isn't a direct fit into the GD. When that was looked into at the time, it wasn't an option (the main installation interfaces to the chassis are different)

The GR & GV share architecture with the BL & BP. In fact, the '15 STi rack is a direct fitment into the legacy/outback (as well as the GR) without swapping subframes.

Didn't even know that existed. Pretty robust honestly. Looks like it's built for a tank. So you might know or I might just email the manufacture. I don't have any crazy mods, have a white line ALK..etc. I noticed that in the pictures they do not have the undertray... does this mean that wouldn't be installed anymore? Everything looks so open that concerns me slightly. I love the fact that you can order it with the 2015 STi rack and it appears it would just bolt right up!

I'm running the TSSFab front subframe with 15sti rack in my 04 FXT. The rack mounting is pretty stout and about the only thing you'd maybe want to do is swap out bushings if you want.

The lines come out of the rack a little funky and my steering setup is rather unique since i'm running a volvo electric power steering rack where the battery normally sits... but I digress. You can use AN adapter fittings in the rack but they're not really "correct" i couldn't find anything with the right taper on the rack side so I ended up using a face seal fitting. It's sealed fine to date. You have to watch the hex size on the An adapters though. They will not fit side by side if they're very big.

MooreSport does sell an AN adapter block that bolts on,uses some banjo bolts into block of Al and face seals the same way I am as far as I can tell... but like all their stuff isn't the cheapest option and will probably come with no instructions.

Also for those who don't drive their cars through crap weather. Baer makes an outer tie rod/Heim joint setup for the subarus with the correct taper bolt to adapt a 5/8 heim to the subaru knuckle, give you bump steer adjust... and it's an aluminum hex link part that goes from the stock metric inner to a 5/8 heim. You can also order that turnbuckle/aluminum piece in other sizes to adapt to a narrower or wider front track.

I'm interested in your Volvo PS pump setup, do you just run it at 12v or use a controller or anything? Does it keep up compared to a conventional pump? Are you still using a standard alternator? Pics? Sounds like you've built something awesome

ive read through most of this thread, but want to confirm before I start the install.

chassis is 96 coupe
subframe and everything under car is 2003 wrx wagon
2004 sti aluminum control arms.

will I still need to modify the tie rods and ends to fit since I already have the sti aluminum front controls?

is a 2002+ RS steering column the same as a wrx column? there is one locally that is reasonably priced. since I need to use a gd steering linkage.

Yes. The '08 onward STIs have an even wider track than the GD STI so the inner tie rods are longer. If I were in your position, I would use the thread adapters linked by tenchi_wrx a few pages back. This will allow you to use shorter GD inner tie rods hopefully without having to trim anything (but you may still have to with the wagon subframe.)

Do you actually need to change the column or just the steering linkage/knuckle?
I think any GD linkage should be the same length/spline count, but can't confirm that or if it will fit the GC/GM/GF column.

thanks for the reply; im still using the gc rack and tie rods.

ill order the adaptors soon.

I thought gc had a smaller steering linkage. thought a company sold a modified gc to gd link. so I figured switch to a gd column and get an sti link.

I should be starting on this swap next month.

I have a couple questions on this swap. I have the 15+ rack and it will be going into a 05 STi modded subframe. My first question is canít I just cut about an inch off the inner tie rod on the 15+ rack, rethread the shaft, and use the same outer tie rods? My second question is what poly bushings are people using to do this swap? Some people say use a mixture of GD and newer STi bushings and other people say use newer STi bushings.

You're going to have a lot of work on your hands fitting it to the 05-07 subframe as there are a different set of fitment problems with that subframe, I've heard people have done it, but I've yet to see how, so I can't give you any direction. From what I understand, the hard lines that come with the '15 rack interfere with the subframe, but there may be other issues as well. Hopefully you're already aware of those challenges.

You could cut some length off the inner rod and rethread, but that's going to involve removing part of the hex/wrench-adjustment section which may require turning that section on a lathe (probably sketchy to do so) in order to get a die to run down onto it.

For the 02-04 subframe it requires both GD and VA bushings, for an 05+ it may work with just the VA bushings.

Why couldnít I cut off the outer section of the inner tie rod?The section where the threads thread into he outer tie rod.

Well if you read the first post, that's what was done. But you also have to trim the outer tie rod as well. Look at the pictures in the first post.

As far as why you can only trim the inner, that's explained in the post you quoted. You won't be able to run a die over the hex section of the inner without making it round and taking it down to the major thread diameter first.

Also your post only mentioned an 05 subframe, is this currently in an 05 car or is it in a GC? Are you also using STI control arms?

Yeah, I apologize for not specifying. I have an 05 STi with a modded 05-07 subframe with stock aluminum STi control arms.
