06 wrx vs 06 civic Si
A few HR locals have a friend who was going to buy an Si once the dealers stop price gouging.
We have started to convince him otherwise. I will link him to this thread should the results be beneficial to our cause. Please post your input and comparison on the matter.

He will never forgive himself for not getting the wrx.
In this case I say you should save him from himself. |

Car of the year 05 vs car of the year 02...
I actually think I see less si's than WRX's these days. I personally would go with a WRX, but I honestly don't think the new si is all that bad, in fact if not for the fwd it would be ok I thought Jason got a trailblazer already though? |

The Si is actually not that bad. It is about $4-5k less and you can get navigation in it. Looks pretty nice too...I just don't like the FWD. I would personally buy a a used WRX over the new Si though. But I would recommend the Si as a nice car at $20k price range. Car of the year 05...every reviewer seem to like it and they all can't be wrong...can they?

What are this guy's goals? If he just wants a street car, I would think the Civic would be fine. If he wants elevenybillion horsepower, the WRX is probably gonna get there faster, but even then, the K20 is a beast. john |

ok this is what I think
what you are really getting for your money 4 doors vs 2 (or even better a wagon vs 2 doors) Grip: AWD (2 viscous diffs and one open) vs 1 fancy helical(I think) LSD FWD more interior room on the wrx Looks: wrx wins the looks contest (not to say the wrx wins awards, but at least give it the default win in this category). But I personally love the 06 wrx. This is subjective anyways, other than I strongly feel the wrx has a much better image (so if you want to impress people older than 16, you would pick the wrx). price: you can get a wrx for under invoice. This makes it within 2k of the Si. brakes: I don't know for sure, but those red 4 pots on the 06 wrx probably has the win. Wheels/tires: um, I'm sure the Si wins with the stock tires. I don't know about wheels, I personally like the 06 wrx 17" wheels. weight: sure the Si has 200 pounds + on the wrx, but what do you really get in order to save 200 pounds? You lose AWD. You lose 2 doors. You lose the highest safety rating in its class (ok well maybe the Si is just as safe... I don't really know). Suspension design/geometry: last I heard civic went macpherson/chapman and never looked back. So they both lose. reliability: toss up build quality: I'm sure the honda wins Interior: probably the honda Handling: Si, but a wrx is a good enough contender that you won't be missing out on much (plus there are a ton of mods to make it a top contender). Power: wrx. Stock for stock the wrx might not be tons faster, but potential of that 2.5l is very high and it doesn't take much money to get it there. end result: magazine racing rocks! \m/ |

Civic Si sounds like a really nice car, but given the choice I'd rather have a WRX.
But, since you made a point of it: 2 door > 4 door |

well I don't think most people see the price tag on a Subaru, if you told them how much the MSRP is for the car they wouldn'y really understand it just by looking at one, its usually not until you drive one that you understand. I love my STi, in the Rain and the Snow, I LOVE AWD!!!!!!

Bob, such hate!
First off, let me just get everyone on the same page and say what I'm looking for in a car. I'm not looking for eleventy billion horsepower. I'm not looking for a drag racer. I was the guy who wanted a RX-8 for a while, so obviously stoplight racing isn't high on my priority list. What I am looking for is a good sport compact. I want a car thats light, tossable, and easy to drive fast through the corners. I want a car thats stylish (debatable, but I like it) with a nice interior and some techno bling. I want a car that's going to give me the same rock-solid reliablity I've gotten out of my Accord. Most of all, I want a car that grabs my attention and keeps me thinking about it all the freakin' time. The Si did that as soon as I saw it over a year ago. The WRX, for whatever reason, never quite hit home for me. Its a great car, no doubt, but its not for me. Believe me, I'm not blindly walking into this. I've done tons and tons of research, and at the end of the day, I think I'm making the right decision. I'll find out in July I test drove one a few weeks ago, just to make sure. Bear in mind this is a WRX TR, so its the stripper model, which is all they had aside from a Sti, but still more expensive than a Si, even below invoice. Biggest turnoff was the interior and overall build feel of the car. The door didn't have a nice solid "thunk" when I closed it. The pedals, regular black instead of the Si's brushed aluminum. The shifter, cheap generic looking thing that I could've improved by switching in my Accord's shifter, as opposed to the Si's aluminum and leather shifter. The whole interior had a 'cut corners' look to it, and since I was in a TR, which is the only car that prices even close to a Si, everywhere I looked were dummy buttons for features I didn't have. All the time I spend with my car is inside the car, so I want something I enjoy being in. That interior didn't quite do it for me. Plus, the stereo didn't even touch the Si's 350 watt 7-speaker stock system. Once driving, the shifter felt notchy and the clutch was a lot heavier than the Si. The motor felt great in higher rpms, but had absolutely nothing below the turbo's engagement point. The Si engine doesn't really have any grunt down low either, but the power delivery is more linear, and there's an extra gear to play with to keep the revs up. Handling felt fine, and I had quite a bit of fun on the test drive, didn't need to work at all to get up to speed quickly, but the whole package just wasn't as well put together as I'd like. Now some individual points: FWD vs AWD Not a whole lot I can say here, AWD is almost always going to be a better sporting options. But, it adds weight, adds cost, has the highest drivetrain power loss of any configuration. As far as FWD goes, though, I think the Si is about as good as you're going to get. Several reviews of the car have stated that the Si is one of the best handling FWD cars they've tested, ever. One reviewer said "This is the car that makes me not hate FWD." I know its never going to be viable as a pure sporting option, but I'm not looking for a pure sports car. I'm looking for a good daily driver that I can fling through the twisties when I want. And remember, just because its FWD doesn't mean it can't hang. Those two front wheels are attatched to a K20 engine with a 8k redline. The car's slalom times are comparable to "real" sports cars twice its price. Four Doors I've driven a taxi before. Its called my Accord. During college I was basically the designated road trip driver, and I'm about done with that. If I really wanted four doors, there's a Si sedan coming out for the 2007 model year. I'm sure I could snag that just as easily as a coupe. But you know what? I don't. This isn't a family ride, this is my ride. I've still got four seats that'll work just fine for trips around town, and if someone doesn't want to ride in my backseat on a road trip, I'll gladly give up driving duties to someone with a roomier car. Besides, I've been in the back seat of a WRX. Four doors or not, its no picnic back there. Curb Weight 3192 - 2877 = 315 pounds lighter, NOT 200 This helps everything, from acceleration to gas mileage to cornering. I'm sure everyone here would love to drop 315 pounds from their car. Maybe not at the expense of AWD and four doors, but there ya go. Oh, you left out one little thing: Gas Mileage: WRX: 20/26 Si: 23/32 Maybe some people don't care at all, and honestly, its not a huge issue for me, but still, with gas easily topping $3 a gallon this summer and probably hovering right around there for the forseeable future or going even higher, I'm saving a few hundred bucks a year driving the Si. And really, I think a Honda grabbing 32 percent of the vote on a Subaru site is pretty damn good. |

If you want to pickup groceries and get street cred from the Honda Boyz, get the Si. If you want to go fast, get the WRX. Easy choice.

Further in time...
Mike trying to follow us. We park, him *whiney in rheny tone* "Guys I don't have a turbo, I can't do that like you guys can. I had to cut off a lady in a station wagon and she got mad at me. Don't do that anymore, I can't keep up when you all come off the exits like that..." |

Personally i've been seriously thinking about trading my car for an 06 wagon, those things look really really nice and its an overall great package. 06 wagons> 06 sedans Anyway they are practical and still fast.
In germany cars like the avant are actually stylish and cool but in america they some how haven't lost their 'dull boring' reputation ( i know i'm preaching to the choir) anyway don't count out the 06 wrx wagon those are really nice. If it were me i'd be looking at an 06 around august when the 07s in the market. |
