2023 Ford Bronco Raptor: Here Are Some Exclusive Details

Weíve known for some time now that Ford is planning a Raptor variant of the all-new Bronco. In fact, we got as close to an official confirmation as weíll ever get of this being the case just last month. Having spoken to those familiar with the project, Ford Authority has learned some exclusive details about the upcoming 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor.

First and foremost, the range-topping Bronco model is being planned in both two- and four-door configurations. However, itís possible that only the four-door model will ultimately be brought to market.



Up front, the Bronco Raptor will feature a revised front fascia, with a unique bumper treatment. Being the ultimate expression of the new Bronco family, the off-roader will also have noticeably higher ground clearance with a wider stance compared to even the most range-topping Wildtrak model.

That added width will be wrapped in significantly larger and more pronounced fenders hiding a set of wheels that will have a resemblance to the units used on the F-150 Raptor.



The rear end of the 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor will follow along in the footsteps of the front, bringing a revised rear fascia with a different bumper treatment. A single-exit, dual-tip exhaust located on the driverís side of the SUV will handle the exhaust duties.

Those closely following the Bronco may have already expected some, if not all of these features. Whatís surprising is that our sources tell us that the Bronco Raptor might end up wearing headlights and/or tail lights that will be unique to the model.


Under the hood will reside Fordís twin-turbocharged 3.0L EcoBoost V6 mated to the 10-speed automatic transmission. No manual is currently planned. A hybrid might be offered later on in the modelís lifecycle. Additionally, a set of thorough chassis and suspension upgrades Ė which we will outline shortly Ė will be present and accounted for under the bones.

When Ford Bronco was finally unveiled a couple of months back, it looked quite complete and had ticked almost all the boxes. Almost. The one unticked box that kept the off-roader enthusiasts wanting more was the super-rugged Raptor version of this competent off-roader.

It didnít take long for the news to start pouring in which more or less confirmed that the Bronco Raptor is arriving soon. If that wasnít enough, the LinkedIn profile of a Ford engineer came to light where he mentioned that he was working on the 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor.

Even though Ford hasnít officially announced the Bronco Raptor yet, there are quite a few things already known. Now, Ford Authority has reported them again, which confirms the things we already knew. Which I posted above for ya.



How Will The Bronco Raptor Be On The Outside?

On the outside, the Bronco Raptor will wear a different bumper design and perhaps a few more differentiating elements on the front fascia. It will also ride higher off the ground and will be wider than its tamed alter-ego. The added width will be pronounced by the wide fenders that will also accommodate the larger wheels and tires that could be offered.



The rear will also be revised and receive a unique bumper. There will also be a single exit, dual-tip exhaust peeping out of the driverís side. The publication also reported that the Bronco Raptor could also feature new exclusive headlights and taillights as well. The 2023 Bronco Raptor is being planned in the two-door as well as the four-door configuration. However, only the four-door could make it to production, following the footsteps of the F-150 Raptor, which is also expected to be offered in a four-door configuration only.

What Will Power The 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor?

Unlike the standard Broncoís 2.3- and 2.7-liter engine options, a 3.0-liter, V-6 EcoBoost engine will make its presence felt under the hood, and it will be married to a ten-speed automatic transmission.

This falls in line with the earlier reports that the 3.0-liter, V-6 engine from the Explorer ST and Lincoln Aviator could be offered here. It puts out 400 horses and 415 pound-feet of torque. No manual transmission will be offered. A hybrid could be introduced down the line, but initially, it will just be the 3.0-liter V-6 mill. The chassis and suspension will also receive upgrades, but nothing concrete about that is known yet.

However, according to some earlier speculations, we could see a suspension setup similar to the one seen on the Bronco R prototype that took part in the 2019 Baja 1000 race.



Final Thoughts

If we take the Ford Engineerís LinkedIn profile for granted, the Bronco Raptor will be a 2023 model year, which means it will debut sometime in 2022. This is also in line with our earlier guesstimates. But, if Ford plans to contain some onslaught from the Wrangler 392 Concept, which was announced just a few hours before the Bronco was launched, we could see it debuting by the end of 2021 as well.

Ford should probably concentrate on making the regular Broncos. How many years will it be until we actually see Broncos on dealership lots?

The question is how many years before we see Broncos on dealer lots that donít have some major issues. I know of one person with a Bronco and itís been a nightmare with the roof. Major squeaking/rattling and also leaking. Overspray issues on the paint, and body panels that have excessive gap/alignment problems. And yet the guy feels like he won the lottery for paying $5K over MSRP and getting it earlyÖ.

The hard top is a documented problem and seeing it's a Ford you have to expect mediocre build quality. Remember the bar for this vehicle is a Jeep not a Lexus.

I saw a Bronco at work yesterday. Didnt even know they were out.
It must have been the most basic model, as it looked just like that Basic, no nothing, plain, boring. Not to mention ugly.

Was it a Bronco tho? People seem to not know the difference.

Also people don't ever test drive or even inspect their vehicles before signing papers. Car is ordered online, ADM paid, and delivered to the house with a good luck sucker. Worst possible time to buy a car especially a brand new model or trim or setup.

I have seen a lot of people on the internet mistake the Bronco Sport for the Bronco. I have seen a few Bronco Sports in the wild but still not a single Bronco nor do the local dealers have any. It's like it exists but only in pictures and videos.

I have seen both in the wild - very different vehicles; bronco sport is a "butch" or squared-off escape/ecosport, almost like a baby/imitation LR Defender. The actual Bronco has soo much room for activities underneath it; looks like a very capable off-roader.

You are right about the more capable Bronco. But the interior of the Bronco is definitely following the Wrangle path of spartan and primitive place to be. I wager for most the bronco sport will do all the offloading they need but in more comfort.

I think they separated the two vehicles by a chasm. Which is good as their is absolutely no overlap. I thought I wanted a bronco, but after seeing the people space, I would pass.

I just do not need THAT much capability.

I really don't understand people complaint about Ford build quality. Their trucks, suvs / Cuvs are built really well. I have yet to really meet anyone who complained about this Ford vehicle. That said, with the Bronco, I called the roof / top being an issue before this even hit the lots. Yeah. There is some crap quality in the cabin (passenger oh **** handle) and some reports of body panel issues. Sadly, this is a result of Covid really ****ing with manufacturing shut downs and companies being victim to shareholders. It's really no different than the Tesla approach of "get the vehicle out and to the customer and we will fix the issues once they have it."

Is it the right approach? Nope. But also can't entirely blame them. I have never been a brand "loyalist" and I'm quick to leave a company when their products go to ****, but I have owned 3 F150's and had nothing but an amazing experience and I've probably suggested Ford Edge, escape, F150 and Mach E to probably a dozen or so people, all of whom have loved their vehicle.
